The Metafilter Transition Team (TT) is pleased to announce that self nominations are open for the inaugural Steering Committee! The purpose of the MetaFilter Steering Committee (SC) will be to develop and implement site policy, code updates, and ensure the financial health of the site. The SC works with the site staff and site owner to ensure that there is not a single failure point for site decisions or actions, and that there are an adequate number of people available to respond to community needs. Hey, guys. Struck me this morning that it's a good idea for MeFites in town to know where everyone is, what potential needs folks have, and how to help if things get much worse. I'm setting this one as a proposed meetup in Austin in the hopes of getting emails out to folks in town, but right now I have no intention of meeting in-person--just organizing folks in town so that we can set up a network we can use to help one another and familiarize ourselves with anyone who's local on the site. Austin MeFites: come band together and stand together at city hall this evening as we mobilize to demand protection for the Mueller investigation to hold president Trump and the cronies of his administration accountable for their actions. The forced resignation of Jeff Sessions and the subsequent replacement of Rod Rosenstein by Trumpist stooge Matt Whittaker should not go unanswered. Hey friends! I’m going to be in Austin this weekend for a conference, and would love to see mefites on Saturday night April 28.

I moved here in January. I don't know anyone beyond my wife. I thought I'd see if there was anyone here that would be interested in a meet up. I live in the Montrose area, so inside the loop would be best. Drinks somewhere would be great, but something more unique would be cool too.

Now that autumn* is here, let's get back into the swing of trivia! Y'all come out and join the intrepid MeFite team for Geeks Who Drink trivia at Little J's Bar. Houston Restaurant Weeks is on again, in support of the food bank. We've gathered in years past to celebrate the season, so let's do it again! The list of restaurants supporting is in the link, take a look and suggest below.

Keeping it short and sweet: let's meet at the new Dog and Duck on either Saturday the 23rd, Saturday the 30th, or Sunday the 31st in either the afternoon or early evening. Let me know your best dates in the comments and I'll schedule us formally Friday. ETA: scheduled for Sunday, 31 January, at 2 pm.
