Wednesday Night at the MFA (free!)
When MeFites view art, is it a MeFart?
Well! Let me recalibrate the taste-level of this IRL post by cordially inviting you all to meet up at the Museum of Fine Arts on Wednesday evening, October 16, at 7PM (free admission, donations accepted). Let's gather at the Taste Café in the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level 1, at 7PM, wait about 10-15 minutes for people to show up, and then meander from there. The MFA's open until 10PM, but don't feel like you have to wander around for three hours. [more inside]

It is a palace of many mythical wonders and it was proposed as one of the next meetup locations. It's open until 6:00 PM on Saturdays; the cafe offers complimentary tea and cookies until 5:00. (It is also close to the Center for Land Use Interpretation, which is equally a palace of wonders if you like scholastic text and resource allocation. They also have quite a cool map of points of interest in the area around their Culver City branch.) [more inside]

Top Gun on the Intrepid
As part of their free summer movie series Top Gun will be shown on the deck of the Intrepid (a battleship turned museum). We're allowed to bring blankets and have a picnic. [more inside]

MeFi L.A. Museum & Art Crawl Part 3: Watts Towers
Let's go to Watts Towers!
The Watts Towers structure consists of seventeen major sculptures of steel, covered with mortar and embellished by decorative finishings of mosaic tiles, glass, clay, shells, and rock. This folk art employs assemblage construction. There are three tall spires, several small towers, two walls, gazebo, patio, ship, and other structures. In addition to the towers, the The Watts Towers Arts Center is the home of International Ethnic Instrument Collection consisting of 144 primarily non-western instruments collected from around the world. SF Meetup: After Dark @ The Exploratorium 1st August
Meetup at After Dark at the Exploratorium. You need to buy tickets. Meet outside the exploratorium at 6:15pm by the vertically orientated sign with the big hole. I'll also try and be near the entrance inside at 8pm if you're running late and want to find the group. There will likely be post-exploratorium drinking (venue TBD).
Dandies and Dinner
Let's go see the Artist / Rebel / Dandy: Men of Fashion exhibit at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum!
We will meet at the Benefit Street entrance of the museum at 2:00 PM, and then make our way to Trinity Brew House at 5:00 PM for dinner. [more inside]
Slow Art Day in Salem, MA
International Slow Art Day is coming up on April 27th. It's a worldwide effort to have a different kind of art experience. The idea is to spend a couple of hours immersing yourself in just 5-10 works of art, and then meet up with individuals who have just done the same to talk about the experience.
We're hosting Slow Art Day where I work, and Metafilter's own Lipstick Thespian is host. We thought it would be fun to invite MeFites to take part, and when it's all over, we can go out for a just-MeFite gathering over pints or such. [more inside]

Will Eisner New York exhibition at MoCCA
Anyone interested in seeing the Will Eisner New York exhibition at MoCCA? After some discussion, I figured Saturday, April 16 might be an auspicious date. I've been to the space before, and though the place isn't huge, this one looks fun. It's $5. Could do lunch before in Chinatown/SoHo also or just meet up at museum at 2:30.
