Fri December 14 at 5:00 PM, Tech Museum
201 S Market St, San Jose, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
It been a while since we've had a meetup in San Jose, so how about getting together Friday the 14th to check out Mythbusters: The Explosive Exhibition.
What's a better combination than Mefites and Mythbusters, right? So let's do a 5:00pm tour, and then check out Christmas in the Park afterwards. Tickets are $22 and available here.

I'm in! I work downtown and I live near the Rose Garden, so whether I'm at the office or working from home, getting to the Tech Museum is easy peasy. Woohoooo!

I guess I can't whine about how far away San Jose is, since you drive to our meetups all the time. Put us down for a definite maybe!

What time zone is San Jose? Do major airlines fly there?

Definite maybe for us and our brood.

I don't know if I can get there exactly at 5, but I'll try. YAY explodey things!

Would totally drive or CalTrain to SJ for this, but 5 pm on a weekday just isn't doable for work reasons, sadly.

Btw, the Costcos down here have discounted packs of 2 tickets for $29.99 for the exhibition. Dunno about the ones further north.

Maybe? I'm always fucking working, though.

Alas, I am having my wisdom teeth removed the day before, so I don't think I'm up for it.

I know it's far and an inconvenient time for you San Francisco folks, so maybe we can schedule something more commute friendly another time. I'd love to see you guys down here one of these days!

For those of us who can make it though, there are a few options for what we can do after the exhibition. There's wandering around Christmas in the Park of course, or we could find a place to hang out close-by so that any late-comers can join up later. So a couple of options:

Original Gravity, a fairly new Beer/Sausage place that's tasty, if a bit small. Great selection of beers though.

Caffe Frascati which has a decent selection of beer and wine as well as coffee. Cozy couches upstairs too!

Psycho Donuts. Because, hey, Donuts.

And of course, other suggestions welcome.

We can always update the thread and people can meet up with us after the exhibit, too! I also think that people can buy later tickets or come in after 5 and meet up with us inside.

I could maybe tempt people with cookies? Home-made? Popcorn chocolate-chip?

In case Mythbusters isn't your favorite flavor of nerdery, Friday night you can also get tickets for The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses at the Civic Auditorium. But at $75 for the cheap seats, I think our get together is better value for the money.

Dear meetup buddies,

I'm sorry to give you last-minute notice on this, but I'm afraid I won't be joining you tonight after all. The news from Connecticut, where I have a lot of good friends (though thankfully none with children still at Sandy Hook) has kind of knocked the wind out of me, and I don't think I will be at my best social self by tonight.

Again, I'm really sorry, because I was so looking forward to doing this, and to meeting up with you all, but I'd rather meet you when I can bring my A game to a meetup.

Please keep me in mind for future meetups, though. I'll even join sarahnade in bringing cookies.

Heyo, don't think I can make the tech museum, but we'll be down tonight for Christmas in the Park. Sam, I'll txt you to see if you guys are there, and we'll come say hi

No worries, Bakerina. Take care of yourself.

Just to be clear, this is totally still happening. No pressure to be on time, dress nice or be in a jolly mood. Contact me via twitter if you need any details, but we'll keep this thread updated in case anyone is still on the fence.

Danny, I'll let you know when we're out and about.

Ignore the food bank entrance thing I posted above - it's not valid today.

I'm on my way to Caltrain now.

We survived an explosion and got shot at. Fun! Leaving the exhibition to find food.

oops

Don't feel bad. I'm going to start proposing more meetups in the South Bay and Penninsula, so there will be more chances to hang out. Stay tuned!

I wasn't sure whether to post the video of that dripping tree, but I uploaded the videos of the straw house test and the plane vs. the conveyor belt.
