Field trip: the Museum of Jurassic Technology TAKE TWO

Sat November 22 at 3:00 PM, Museum of Jurassic Technology
9341 Venice Boulevard, Culver City, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
Reposting from previous event! Chicainthecity most courteously reminded me that the event needed updating, and we discussed NOVEMBER 8th as the most likely afternoon. The consensus is now November 22nd: let us know in the thread! The Museum of Jurassic Technology in Culver City is a place that engenders love and and serious confusion, perhaps in equal measures. It is a palace of many mythical wonders and it was proposed as one of the next meetup locations. It's open until 6:00 PM on Saturdays; the cafe offers complimentary tea and cookies until 5:00. (It is also close to the Center for Land Use Interpretation, which is equally a palace of wonders if you like scholastic text and resource allocation. They also have quite a cool map of points of interest in the area around their Culver City branch.)
EDIT: November 22nd! At 3! Third date's the charm!

Cost: I'm just going to copy their admissions list directly
Adults, $ 8.00
Children aged 13 to 21, $ 5.00
Students in full time education, $ 5.00
Persons 60 years or older, $ 5.00
Unemployed persons, $ 5.00
Disabled Persons, $1.50
Active service personnel in uniform, $ 1.50
Children 12 and under, Free
Time: early afternoon onwards

Followed by: Chinese food at Hu's seemed like the general consensus of those in the know.

Getting there: general Culver City info here. There are also convenient buses, with a bus stop right outside and it's a mere three blocks from a stop on the Metro Expo line.

I'm probably going to be in the bay area on the 8th, so later in the month would work better for me.

Ooh, thank you! I'm flexible, but I'd like to lock it down soon.

My open weekends in November at this point are the 8th and the 22nd. I'm amenable to either.

The 8th isn't great for me, but the 22nd would totally work. And I might be able to squeak out something on the 8th after all, my plans for that weekend are still in the realm of "didn't I say I'd have lunch with so and so that day? Or was that dinner?" so hey you never know.

I just found out that I have a dinner on the 8th, so the 22nd would, as of right now, be best for me. Is that too close to Thanksgiving for anyone?

Ok, I'm definitely going to be out of town on the 8th. But the 22nd is great for me. So that's where my vote is.

Both the 8th (in the afternoon+evening) and the 22nd are open for me at this point. Very happy for this -- been missing everybody! :D

The 22nd sounds good to me!

Sounding rather like the 22nd. :-P All other details are fine by me...

Okay, I am risking the Gods Who Love Upsetting IRL Events, but I've set it as confirmed for 3 (ish) PM on the 22nd.

Also I have so much leftover candy, if anyone lives by me and needs an infusion of Whoopers or mini Kitkats into their system, let me know!

On my way. Please wait a bit

I'd planned on journeying to the Westside today to meet ya'll but this Finance homework and Management paper aren't going to do themselves.

See you at game night, after finals!

Oh. 3 pm. Guess I will have a cocktail. I was thinking two o'clock. I will post where I am when I get there in case someone wants to join me.

As threatened last time I am in the lounge/bar area of the Historic Culver Hotel in case someone wants to join me. I am by the window with a cocktail and probably reading a book on an iPhone.

I'm on my way. I'll check the bar if I get there early.

Sorry you can't make it, ApathyGirl, but see you at game night!

I'm heading over now-ish (I live a couple of miles down). See y'all at the museum.

Freeway gods are dictating an ETA of three thirtyish for me.

Despite dramatically missing the bus stop, I'm here now. As awesome as a drink sounds, I think it's better if I just stick around here? I am dressed like an 18th century trading port.

I totally wish I'd stayed for dinner!

Thanks for setting it up jetlagaddict! I had a great time, and ate way too much.

I wish you had stuck around too, Room 641-A. Hu's is totally old school and you could have watched me make my predictably bad Chinese food decisions.

It was great to meet you, bswinburn, and to see everyone else again. I am so glad it came together because the MJT was everything I wanted. It also seemed like there was a consensus for a dim sum (or other dumpling-replete) meetup, so hopefully we can all make it for delicious Chinese food in 2015!

Adding my voice to the consensus of awesomeness! It was great to see everyone again. And the doves were pretty nifty too. ;)

Looking forward to game night!

Ugh, I got roped into a work social thing that ended up lasting all day... I would have much rather spent the day with y'all at the Jurassic Museum, that's for sure.

Most excellent time everybody! See y'all in December!

Oh and here's that Garrison Keillor story at Moth I mentioned.

Yeah, that was good times. Hope you feel better, Room-641A! I am hoping I make game night! If not, I have not-quite-two glorious weeks off around Christmas/New Years and would be excited to Do Things.

It's probably best that I skipped dinner, but I'm craving Chinese food so hard right now! It was great seeing everyone and finally getting to the museum; it was so much bigger than I expected. Onward to game night! I'll put together something for ice skating :D

Can I just say that it's lovely to have people posting links to the Moth and to short stories afterwards? Thanks for being awesome, everyone.
