DC FOODIES at Baan Thai

Friends, let's do lunch. Let's do lunch at the Thai place that proudly posts its one-star Yelp review from "Alexa" (not me!) because it was "too spicy" and "doesn't even have pad thai". Yes, we're going to Baan Thai (WaPo review) in two weeks--come join us! As always, newcomers and visitors to DC are welcome. [more inside]

Autumn Gathering / Bojack Horseman Season 5!

Hi all - Bojack Horseman Season 5 airs on Netflix in 2 weeks, on Friday 9/14. Since we’ve done a Bojack meetup the past couple of years, I wanted to gauge interest in doing another one this year. It sounds like that weekend doesn't work for ya'll, so now I'm leaning towards an Autumn get-together a weekend in October, and we can watch Bojack if folks want, and eat, drink and be merry :-) [more inside]

DC FOODIES' Tbilisi Tuesday

Hey FOODIES, does the hype about Compass Rose's khachapuri make you wonder what kind of culinary wonderland could have produced such a marvel? Do you want to chow down on dumplings all day and all night? Do you work in downtown DC or can you easily get there on a weeknight? Then you are in luck! We are going to Supra for Georgian food (the country, not the state) next Tuesday and hope to see you there. [more inside]

DC FOODIES Brunch It Up

Um, did someone say "all you can eat and drink"? Inspired by Washington City Paper's celebration of DC's rich Trinidadian heritage, we're headed to Crown Bakery in Brightwood Park, DC, for Sunday brunch on the 22nd. (I was going to say we're heading to Trinidad, but that's an actual place in DC and I endeavor to eliminate confusion!) Is Kennedy St. really the new Upshur St.? Join us and find out! [more inside]

First Friday in Richmond VA

Drinks, food and art. I will be in Richmond for First Friday and want to explore the heck out of it on foot. Lemaire at the Jefferson Hotel has fancy happy hour in the bar from 4 to 7 pm. Appetizers 3 for $20, wine and drink specials. The Lantern Parade starts at 7 pm. There are light sculptures around the Arts District. If there's later night blues music that would be even more swell. Come wander with me. [more inside]

Providence Drinks And Or Food?

Work will bring me to your fair town on October 24th and 25th. Having never been before, I would enjoy finding a fun place to drink the delicious beer of your land on Wednesday October 25th. I'm not precisely sure when I'll be done for the day, so a late-dinner may also be in the cards, depending on the timing...I'm thinking somewhere around 7-8pm? I'm staying at the Omni and enjoy walking but can grab a cab or whatever also.

Beer! Conversation! ...Beer!

Because (a) we haven't had a pub meetup in a while, along with (b) my own rather sequestered circumstances and (c) general consternation over the state of the nation, I could really use a restorative or three and some amiable palaver.

DC FOODIES February brunchytimes

DC FOODIES are in the jungle, baby!

Hello food fans of DC! We had an excellent Uzbek lunch last weekend (with duffell and CatastropheWaitress' tiny adorable baby!!) and I think it's about time we got back into a routine. I promised metro accessibility, I promised vegetarian options, and I think a great way to fulfill the promise would be at Thip Khao, an excellent Laotian restaurant in Columbia Heights which wants to welcome you to the jungle. Thanks to drlith's excellent suggestion, I propose that we meet on May 28th for a delicious Uzbek luncheon at Silk Road Choyhona in Gaithersburg, MD. Who's in? [more inside]

Potluck III: Luck of the Pot

From Wikipedia: To the Irish, a potluck was a meal with no particular menu. Everyone participating brought a dish for all to share. The term comes from a time when groups of Irish women would gather together and cook dinner. They only had one pot so they cooked the meal together with whatever ingredients they happened to have that day.[citation needed] [more inside]

Spice Mix Mixing Party

Every cuisine in the world seems to have its own spice mix or mixes. I figure if we all get together and everyone brings a few spices, we could make a lot more spice mixes than if we each mixed them at home, and everyone could take home some of each variety. Here's a few common ones for a starting point. Let's get together and make some of them! [more inside]
