The DC DSA chapter's next general meeting is 3-5pm on Sunday, 8/19, and I thought it would be great for those of us who are going or who are interested in politics and activism generally to have a place to talk shop afterward. You are also absolutely welcome if you aren't interested in the DSA -- this meetup is truly for DC progressives of all stripes. The cafe, Le Pain Quotidien, is chosen for its proximity to Dupont Circle Metro. [more inside]
The DC DSA chapter's next general meeting is 3-5pm on Sunday, 7/8, and I thought it would be great for those of us who are going or who are interested in politics and activism generally to have a place to talk shop afterward. You are also absolutely welcome if you are ambivalent about joining or being involved in the DSA or don't want to go to the meeting -- this meetup is truly for DC progressives of all stripes. The cafe, Peregrine Express, was chosen for its proximity to the Eastern Market Metro. [more inside]
We've spent a lot of time exploring the cuisines of Europe and Asia, but not quite as much in Central America. And yet we're in the unofficial pupusa capital of the US! (As well as the official actual capital of the US.) Let's remedy that with casual Salvadorean comfort food at Ercilia's Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. [more inside]
Um, did someone say "all you can eat and drink"? Inspired by Washington City Paper's celebration of DC's rich Trinidadian heritage, we're headed to Crown Bakery in Brightwood Park, DC, for Sunday brunch on the 22nd. (I was going to say we're heading to Trinidad, but that's an actual place in DC and I endeavor to eliminate confusion!) Is Kennedy St. really the new Upshur St.? Join us and find out! [more inside]
I'm posting this to allow coordination for any MeFites, local or visiting for the occasion, who will be attending the March for Our Lives on the 24th. [more inside]
Not exactly a traditional DC Foodies meetup, but: I recently posted a question about trying new amari on AskMe, and exogenous mentioned that Don Ciccio e Figli is producing amari right here in DC! Let's go try them next month. [more inside]
This coming weekend (Saturday, March 17th) we will be having a family-friendly meetup at the zoo! Everyone is welcome; we thought this would be a nice opportunity for people with kids and people without kids to hang out especially because the zoo is FREE! [more inside]
OK, there isn't any actual madness, but this month, we're going to Golden Samovar in Rockville, MD for delicious Russian and Central Asian foods! (But didn't we just have Central Asian food last month, you ask? Yes, and we liked it! Why not more? Or you can just stick to the Eastern European options on the menu.) [more inside]
For our next foodie adventure, we're heading to the Xinjiang region of northwest China to try some Uyghur food. Actually wait, no, we're heading to Dolan Uyghur Restaurant just outside the Cleveland Park metro, which hopefully should be a shorter trip for most of us... [more inside]
Hey DC Mefites! Sauce Trough and I are going to be in town at the end of the month and we'd love to hang out. Is anyone up for a meetup the weekend of the 27th? We'll be staying just north of the National Mall, but we're definitely up for exploring other parts of the city, if another locale works better for folks. UPDATE: Time and venue selected: Burger Tap & Shake - Foggy Bottom Sunday, January 28, 3:30 pm
DC FOODIES is back with a um, vengeance? Yeah, vengeance, let's go with that. We're going to Yechon in Annandale's Koreatown at 8PM on Saturday the 13th. Join us for Korean BBQ and bites! [more inside]
Alas, all good things must come to an end, so we are wrapping up our three+ wonderful years of Star Trek: TNG with the final episode, All Good Things Must Come to an End! Join us at the Black Cat Friday evening and then for dinner afterwards at Matchbox 14th St. This is a double episode, so dinner will be at 9:30. [more inside]
Hey everybody, I really want to go to this! Based on my friends' pictures, the bar has a bunch of props and it just sounds like a treat. Anybody else up for grabbing a drink or two there? (Non-drinkers interested in drinking non-alcoholic stuffs are welcome as well, of course). [more inside]
I have never had Ethiopian food and I want to try some good stuff! What if this exciting initial experience was a Metafilter meetup too?
I think we should have a meetup because it feels like it's been a while. I propose we meet at Mi Rancho in Silver Spring because it has an outside space, it's nearish the Metro, and restaurants with margaritas are good for drinkers and non-drinkers alike. [more inside]
I'm planning to start protesting outside the White House on my lunch break (which I suppose I will have to start taking). Although this event only specifies February 8th, I'm hoping to go almost every day this week and next. [more inside]
As much as I'd like to make another "LET'S JUST GO TO COMET" shitpost now that James bloody O'Keefe of all people is going after them (it's a long story, google it) I think...I think we should do brunch in February! the thought-fox's suggestion of Yayla (Turkish, near East Falls Church metro) sounded really tasty, and we haven't done Middle Eastern yet. Let's go on the 25th at noon! [more inside]
D.C. MeFi Tots (of the "tots and tykes," not "tater" variety) is having a daytime playdate at our place in Arlington on MLK Day (Jan. 16). If you've got a little one and an interest in getting out of the house, RSVP and I'll send you the details. (Including the real address, which is actually not the lovely Atlacatl Pupuseria listed below).
Relaxed, end-of-week-meetup where west coast Mefite meets east coast Mefites. [more inside]
Hello FOODIES! I think it's safe to say our regular meetups will resume next month, but my October got a little busy. So this time around, I'm just going to call it for a Sunday lunch on the 23rd and an easy-to-reach location--one that comes recommended by several MeFites. Hope you can join me for delicious fried chicken and other Korean goodies at Bonchon!
Hello FOODIES and welcome to the planning thread for our July meetup! (Sorry, I know that title pun is terrible.) Everyone seemed pretty interested in dim sum when we met up earlier this month, and my research suggests that Gourmet Inspirations in Silver Spring, MD (near the Wheaton Red Line stop) is the area's sleeper hit, both better-reviewed and apparently less-crowded than its competitors. For anyone who doesn't know what dim sum is, it's Hong Kong-style brunch tapas and it is delicious! Usually lots of dumplings and pastries are involved. Update: Date/time confirmed, hope to see you there! [more inside]
Hello good people of MetaFilter! In between traveling, inclement weather, work, and other social engagements, I have somehow sadly allowed months to pass without a single food-related journey. But never fear. We ride again! And this time, we ride to Uzbekistan. Thanks to drlith's excellent suggestion, I propose that we meet on May 28th for a delicious Uzbek luncheon at Silk Road Choyhona in Gaithersburg, MD. Who's in? [more inside]
I know there are a bunch of expectant MeFi parents in the DC area (and maybe some recent parents?) so I thought it would be nice if we could have a meetup to keep ourselves sane(ish) and get a chance to check in with other intelligent, thoughtful adults going through the same thing. Everyone who wants to come is welcome, just know that the conversation might center around, like, babies and whatnot. I expect this to be this Saturday afternoon, April 16th. [more inside]
I know this is short notice, but Blasdelb is in DC this week and wanted to meet some of you awesome DC folks. I have a reservation at Lincoln at 7 on Friday under "MetaFilter". Join us for fun times and poutine!
As promised: our rare foods tour has taken us to many meaty delights, so now it's time to visit some vegetables! Let's go to the Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant weekend buffet in Langley Park, MD later this month. [more inside]
Hello fellow Mefites! I will be in your neck of the woods over Thanksgiving break and would like to gather for fun and/or festivities of sorts [more inside]
After a mouth-numbingly delicious feast at Panda Gourmet, what could be better than a large plastic bag of spicy Cajun-style crawfish at Hot N Juicy Crawfish in Woodley Park? I hope to see you all there! [more inside]
My friends and I have, yet again, built a thing for the H St. Festival, Saturday, September 19. [more inside]
DC MeFi goes to "the best Chinese restaurant Washington, DC has had, ever". Going with September 19th since it looked like weekends were a good bet and some folks wanted something later in the month. If enough people are interested and the weather is nice, let's meet at the Arboretum a little earlier and walk up to the restaurant. [more inside]
I know it's short notice but Ferret Branca will be in DC this weekend so we're having another meetup! If you missed last weekend's meetup OR if you came last weekend and want more time with DC MeFites, we'll be in Shaw on Saturday afternoon. [more inside]
Labor Day weekend is almost upon us again, and that means DragonCon in Atlanta. (Please don't call it Dragon*Con, they had their *-hole removed two years ago at no small expense.) Even though an actual organized MeFi meetup is not likely to survive everyone's various convention plans, we can at least use this thread to talk about those plans. NOTE: like last year, the time and place listed are for the registration line, the event itself lasts Thursday-Monday, and is spread across 5 high-rise hotels and a nearby convention center. [more inside]
We'll be going to Medaterra on Connecticut at 6:45 on Saturday for dinner. Join us and celebrate an out-of-town MeFite! [more inside]
Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy was recently restored and is currently showing at the E Street Cinema. On Saturday, June 27, I'm going to do a triple feature, starting at 4:30 PM and finishing just shy of midnight. Do any DC-area MeFites have the interest and gluteal fortitude to join me?
In lieu of our (sort of) regularly scheduled gaming meetup, would folks be interested in the Post Hunt on May 31? [more inside]
After last week's tribute to Nimoy (is there something in my eye?) we're back on track with "The Measure of a Man", said to be the first truly great episode of ST:TNG, where our heroes grapple with the question of Data's personhood. Plus, weird blue drinks as usual. [more inside]
The winner of our food poll is Fish in the Hood, located in Park View, DC. (Easy walk from Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro.) (Also, potentially, in the 'hood?) I'm going to go ahead and simplify this process and pick out a date myself: Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 7:00 PM. It's near some great bars so a Saturday night should be pretty ideal for anyone who wants a night out on the town. Hope to see you all there! [more inside]
February 7: Dinner at Etete Restaurant at 7 PM with museuming and wandering during the day! Hi DC-area mefites! I'm flying into Washington, DC on February 6 and leaving on February 8 - want to get together for food/museums/drinks/other DC area things sometime that weekend? [more inside]
The holidays are upon us, and I'm not going to be able to organize a final gaming meetup, because my weekends are pretty much booked until the end of the year. (If someone else wants to organize one, please feel free, though! I'll pick it up again next year.) But a bunch of random weeknights are free... anyone feel like drinks and/or dinner, on December 8, 9 or 10, maybe? Confirmed for Dec 8 at RFD in Chinatown.
His thoughts were red thoughts and Misfish are coming to DC in early October so we're having a meetup! It will be at Bier Baron in Dupont starting in the late afternoon and continuing until we all leave. Hope to see you there!
I'm not saying you should wear your straw boater after Labor Day, but I am saying that summer doesn't actually end until autumn starts, so we've still got a few weeks to squeeze in a summer gaming meetup. [more inside]
In honor of the 15th birthday of Metafilter, we'll be having a meetup at Science Club, the same place we had our meetup for the tenth. Please really do consider coming, even if you've never been to a meetup before. Let's make this one count! [more inside]
In the Weird DC thread, troika mentioned that Churchkey + going to the incredibly bizarre yet oddly charming Monarch Novelties could be a great meetup combination, so I say: why not? We'll meet up at Monarch at noon, and then hang out at Churchkey until whenever. Feel free to drop in at any time in the afternoon.
Divined by radio will be in DC so we are having a meetup at Busboys and Poets on Thursday, May 8th at 7pm. Please come so we can hang out! [more inside]
Time for another round of games at the Board Room in Dupont Circle! [more inside]
