Um, did someone say "all you can eat and drink"? Inspired by Washington City Paper's celebration of DC's rich Trinidadian heritage, we're headed to Crown Bakery in Brightwood Park, DC, for Sunday brunch on the 22nd. (I was going to say we're heading to Trinidad, but that's an actual place in DC and I endeavor to eliminate confusion!) Is Kennedy St. really the new Upshur St.? Join us and find out! [more inside]
I'm posting this to allow coordination for any MeFites, local or visiting for the occasion, who will be attending the March for Our Lives on the 24th. [more inside]
Not exactly a traditional DC Foodies meetup, but: I recently posted a question about trying new amari on AskMe, and exogenous mentioned that Don Ciccio e Figli is producing amari right here in DC! Let's go try them next month. [more inside]
This coming weekend (Saturday, March 17th) we will be having a family-friendly meetup at the zoo! Everyone is welcome; we thought this would be a nice opportunity for people with kids and people without kids to hang out especially because the zoo is FREE! [more inside]
Hey DC Mefites! Sauce Trough and I are going to be in town at the end of the month and we'd love to hang out. Is anyone up for a meetup the weekend of the 27th? We'll be staying just north of the National Mall, but we're definitely up for exploring other parts of the city, if another locale works better for folks. UPDATE: Time and venue selected: Burger Tap & Shake - Foggy Bottom Sunday, January 28, 3:30 pm
Boldly continuing with Star Trek Happy Hour, "Rightful Heir," finds Lt. Worf/DC Mefites suffering a crisis of faith which leads him/them to an encounter with the resurrected/returned "Klingon messiah" Kahless/"mostly inoffensive" Skwirl. Lt. Worf/DC Mefites had many questions for Kahless/Skwirl, such as, "what is Sto-Vo-Kor/Bu-Da-Pest like?" and "how can we prevent the Klingon Empire/US Nation from succumbing to civil war/also civil war?" [more inside]
Who's going to the DC March For Science? I'm planning to get there around noon, and I thought it would be nice to congregate with other MeFites.
I think we should have a meetup because it feels like it's been a while. I propose we meet at Mi Rancho in Silver Spring because it has an outside space, it's nearish the Metro, and restaurants with margaritas are good for drinkers and non-drinkers alike. [more inside]
Hello, Washington DC'ers! My wife's already in your fine city for an audit and I'm going to be joining her later in the week to sample your cuisine and karaoke. Join us, won't you? [more inside]
I'm planning to start protesting outside the White House on my lunch break (which I suppose I will have to start taking). Although this event only specifies February 8th, I'm hoping to go almost every day this week and next. [more inside]
As much as I'd like to make another "LET'S JUST GO TO COMET" shitpost now that James bloody O'Keefe of all people is going after them (it's a long story, google it) I think...I think we should do brunch in February! the thought-fox's suggestion of Yayla (Turkish, near East Falls Church metro) sounded really tasty, and we haven't done Middle Eastern yet. Let's go on the 25th at noon! [more inside]
Transportation Research Board's annual mega-conference is starting today (Sunday, Jan. 8) and runs through Thursday (Jan. 12) in Washington, D.C. Who's in town for this?
The Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra performs music from video games, adapted for full symphony orchestra and chorus. For variety, we also feature small ensemble and a cappella pieces. The second concert of our Spring 2016 season is this Saturday, June 25th, at the F. Scott Performing Arts Center in Rockville, MD, at 7:00 pm. [more inside]
I'll be back in DC the week of June 6 - who'd like to grab dinner or a drink? [more inside]
I know there are a bunch of expectant MeFi parents in the DC area (and maybe some recent parents?) so I thought it would be nice if we could have a meetup to keep ourselves sane(ish) and get a chance to check in with other intelligent, thoughtful adults going through the same thing. Everyone who wants to come is welcome, just know that the conversation might center around, like, babies and whatnot. I expect this to be this Saturday afternoon, April 16th. [more inside]
Let's meet in front of the elephants in the lobby of the Museum of Natural History at 1 PM for some museum wandering, and plan on dinner at Good Stuff Eatery around 6! [more inside]
Friday night, Peter Chang's in Rockville Town Center. 7:00. I'll call for a reservation on January 27, so let me know if you're in by then! If you want to do something afterwards, let me know! [more inside]
As promised: our rare foods tour has taken us to many meaty delights, so now it's time to visit some vegetables! Let's go to the Woodlands Vegetarian Restaurant weekend buffet in Langley Park, MD later this month. [more inside]
Let's meet next weekend to see Spectre! [more inside]
DC, I'm coming to town! Who would like to meet up for dinner and drinks? [more inside]
Update: drinks at Cafe Saint Ex from 5.00pm on Saturday 8 August. We can continue into dinner if people are interested. [more inside]
We'll be going to Medaterra on Connecticut at 6:45 on Saturday for dinner. Join us and celebrate an out-of-town MeFite! [more inside]
The winner of our food poll is Fish in the Hood, located in Park View, DC. (Easy walk from Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro.) (Also, potentially, in the 'hood?) I'm going to go ahead and simplify this process and pick out a date myself: Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 7:00 PM. It's near some great bars so a Saturday night should be pretty ideal for anyone who wants a night out on the town. Hope to see you all there! [more inside]
February 7: Dinner at Etete Restaurant at 7 PM with museuming and wandering during the day! Hi DC-area mefites! I'm flying into Washington, DC on February 6 and leaving on February 8 - want to get together for food/museums/drinks/other DC area things sometime that weekend? [more inside]
Hi all, sorry for the short notice but I'll be in Fort Belvoir tomorrow (Sunday, October 5) for a bowhunting course and was wondering if any Northern Virginia / Washington DC area MeFites would like to meet up somewhere nearby after?
His thoughts were red thoughts and Misfish are coming to DC in early October so we're having a meetup! It will be at Bier Baron in Dupont starting in the late afternoon and continuing until we all leave. Hope to see you there!
It seems like a lot of MeFites are into this TV show called "Star Trek: The Next Generation." They're showing it at the Black Cat on Fridays. This Friday is "Naked Now," and I hear that the bar at Black Cat is fully functional. [more inside]
In honor of the 15th birthday of Metafilter, we'll be having a meetup at Science Club, the same place we had our meetup for the tenth. Please really do consider coming, even if you've never been to a meetup before. Let's make this one count! [more inside]
Hey! Let's get back together and flip some metaphorical tables somewhere in or near DC in mid-August. How does Friday, August 15 sound? [more inside]
In the Weird DC thread, troika mentioned that Churchkey + going to the incredibly bizarre yet oddly charming Monarch Novelties could be a great meetup combination, so I say: why not? We'll meet up at Monarch at noon, and then hang out at Churchkey until whenever. Feel free to drop in at any time in the afternoon.
Divined by radio will be in DC so we are having a meetup at Busboys and Poets on Thursday, May 8th at 7pm. Please come so we can hang out! [more inside]
Klangklangston will be coming to DC this week which obviously means we should have a meetup! Proposed details within. [more inside]
*UPDATE* Come meet me and my +1 and possibly my DC-resident sister on Saturday, January 11, at 3 PM, at the Board Room! [more inside]
If you are bored and not sure what to do on New Year's Eve here is what some of us are doing! [more inside]
I'm going to be in DC on Friday November 1 for a meeting (which just got finally confirmed, even though everyone in the department I contract for has been furloughed recently and so it hasn't had any organizers...) and I'll be staying overnight. Wondering if any mefites want to meet up for dinner and/or drinks? I'm staying in Dupont Circle, but happy to head anywhere. Update: we have added a restaurant venue.
One of our own, armoured-ant aka Antonio Lulic, is doing a North American tour and will be in Washington DC on October 16th. The lovely Coldchef suggested it to me which he sadly cannot attend so I was seeing if any Mefites would like to meet up for dinner and/or drinks beforehand and then attend the show which is free. Antonio's bio page is here and you can check out some of his music here.
**Update** We'll be meeting 7 p.m. onward at The Passenger (1021 7th Street, NW, Washington, D.C.) next Tuesday, June 18th. ¡Viva la D.C. meetups revolución! [more inside]
So, I'm going to be back in town for a conference after nine months absence or so and miss all my Internet friends. More importantly, beloved MeFite Potomac Avenue is leaving DC for bigger apples. What say we get together for drinks and funtimes?
Small Press Expo is the premiere event for graphic novels, the comic arts and cartooning -- at least, that's what we like to tell people, although in my absolutely biased opinion, it's true. SPX is amazing, and if you're anywhere nearby, please check it out. [more inside]
Since you helped me start it last November, Big Ideas Social Club has been going strong: we're an entertaining cross between a 17th century salon, a group of bar buddies and the funniest guys and gals you've ever met. Our sixth meeting will be on Groundhog Day and, since it's been a while since I've done it formally, I want to invite MeFites out. [more inside]
Hi all. We moved to DC at the beginning of December and although I've already met a few of the area's fine MeFites, I'd like to meet more. My own special snowflakeness: I have a toddler and my significant other comes home late, so weekends are best. Otherwise, what works for others?
I'll be in Washington DC for a little bit and would be game for a meetup on either the 14th, 15th or 16th. Interested? Evenings are better for me, it'd be cool to go for drinks or something. (Preferably in a place where conversation is actually possible, since Mefites have interesting delicious brains.)
A pal of mine is in the Silver Spring Stage production of Noel Coward's Private Lives and nearly guarantees a good time to any attendee. Cutting British wit, that sort of thing. It's at 8. Wanna grab beverages/food before &/or after? Update: My pal says, "For pregaming, there's a Mexican place also across the street that is ideal - Fajita Coast." So I hereby propose that we meet there at 7pm. I shall be there with a book in any case. [more inside]
