Szechuan in September

Sat September 19 at 1:00 PM, Panda Gourmet
2700 New York Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC, USA (Map & Directions)
DC MeFi goes to "the best Chinese restaurant Washington, DC has had, ever". Going with September 19th since it looked like weekends were a good bet and some folks wanted something later in the month. If enough people are interested and the weather is nice, let's meet at the Arboretum a little earlier and walk up to the restaurant.
Before my life got a little crazy I totally said I would organize an "interesting/rare food" meetup every month or so! Since you all seemed interested, and our Fish in the Hood meetup was lots of fun, now I want to try to get back in the game.

Polling fairly high when we originally discussed this idea was Panda Gourmet, a hole-in-the-wall Szechuan Chinese restaurant in Northeast DC. Out of the way for most of us, but the reviews say it's worth it.

I'm probably in. I can't do anything the last week of September but I'm otherwise pretty much open.

I am totally into this, especially the part where we take culinary advice from Tyler Cowen.

Weekends or a Tuesday night, maybe.

I'm intrigued by this and have been meaning to go there for ages. If it's on a weekend, especially in later September, I'll trek down from Bawl-mer.

As long as it's only culinary advice.

I don't know if I can make it or not, but I did want to say that the Arboretum is very nice.

Glad to hear folks are interested! Is there anyone for whom Labor Day weekend is definitely out?

I'm doing a puzzle hunt labor day weekend so would prefer another weekend in sept if possible

This sounds fun! I'm good for Monday nights. Possibly other weekdays, depending on the week? I can't do weekends, though.

Just updated the event with a date and time! Sorry to those who couldn't make a weekend date (let's do something else soon) and let me know if anyone wants to go to the Arboretum first.

I'm probably going to SPX, but if the party continues after lunch, I could be up for that.

Yaay the Arboretum! I'm in for that and food :)

The H Street Festival is also the afternoon on Sept. 19 and the MeFite-heavy Atlas Armada will have a presence there, as in the past. This is worth noting if nothing else than for traffic concerns on the way to the arboretum and restaurant, which I hope is good!

Ooh, good to know - we could stop by there as well!

My husband (caseusvelox) and I were just discussing this and trying to figure out how to get to Panda Gourmet from Columbia Heights without a car --

If anyone happens to be heading there from near here (or near any yellow/green metro stop), would you be willing to take two fellow mefites who would be happy to buy you a drink or two in return for your kindness?

There's a Panda Gourmet deal on Amazon Local right now. Only get to use one per table but someone should buy it.

I'm out of town that weekend, but would be up for future DC food adventures.

This is still happening, right? I'm thinking of bringing my daughter.

That's a bummer. She's just under 2, yes? 1p is boyo's naptime, so if I come he'll be staying home with momma.

She's two and a half, and can nap on the way home!

Yup, still happening!

Ooh, I'm in. And I live really close! If anyone needs a pickup, I'm equidistant from Rhode Island Ave and Brookland on the Red Line, and even closer to West Hyattsville on the Green.

...and I have to work. :(

So it looks like this is competing with the H Street festival and the Jambulance.

Thoughts?

The festival goes all day, so the main thing you should be competing with is your stomach's capacity for street food.

caseusvelox and I are heading out and will hopefully be there around 1, but maybe a bit late. I've got short hair and I'm wearing my gray Aw Yiss shirt, in honor of Kate Beaton's presence in the DMV.

Copronymus and I are right by the entrance when you come in. You won't miss us!

I'm switching this to “No” for the second, since I woke up under the weather. Have fun!

We moved to a larger table toward the back.
