The Artist's Way - Starts Sunday, May 7 (in progress)

Hi everyone! Last summer, a handful of us here at Metafilter completed Julia Cameron's classic creativity program, The Artist's Way. It's a 12-week program designed to help you connect to your inherent sense of creativity, be more productive, and build your enjoyment and confidence in artistic work (whether it's writing, music, visual arts, or just simply living a more artistic life). danabanana and I are revisiting the program this year and we'd love your company, whether you're a first-timer or someone looking to try it again. Please join us for gentle accountability, occasional grousing, and weekly revelations about the artistic journey. All are welcome! [more inside]

The Artist's Way - In Progress

Hi everyone! This spring, I'm giving Julia Cameron's classic creativity program, The Artist's Way, a proper go. It's a 12-week program designed to reconnect to your inner artist, build your confidence as an artist (whether that's writing, music, visual arts, etc.) and be more productive. I plan to start on Sunday, May 8. Join me for gentle accountability, occasional grousing, and (hopefully not infrequent) revelations about the artistic journey. All are welcome! If you are just now finding this, folks have been starting on different weeks, so feel free to join the conversation in the overlap. [more inside]

Wednesday Night at the MFA (free!)

When MeFites view art, is it a MeFart?
Well! Let me recalibrate the taste-level of this IRL post by cordially inviting you all to meet up at the Museum of Fine Arts on Wednesday evening, October 16, at 7PM (free admission, donations accepted). Let's gather at the Taste Café in the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, Level 1, at 7PM, wait about 10-15 minutes for people to show up, and then meander from there. The MFA's open until 10PM, but don't feel like you have to wander around for three hours. [more inside]

Harrisburg Art Museum Battle Rounds

Harrisburg Art Museum in the East End is having a series of mural art and graffiti battles and it seems like a funky place to have a Houston MeFi outing (weather permitting.) Maybe go for a drink at East End Hardware or Truck Yard afterward. I propose we go to the August 24th date (mainly because I can't make August 10th)

Subway art meetup?

Update: Would October 19th (Saturday) work for people? Can propose other dates if not. I would want to do either a Bronx line (2, 4, or 5) or the J train from Kosciuszko on out. [As I mentioned in Metatalk I have been taking pictures of all NYC's subway art. Another Mefite expressed interest in joining me one day. Maybe you'd like to join me too?]

Bee in the bonny city of Manchester!

Let's go on a stroll, discover all the bees and find a pub to get stuck into.
Wild in Art and Manchester City Council are bringing all of Manchester’s communities together for Bee in the City – a stunning public art trail of over 100 individually designed giant Bee sculptures. Crafted by regional professional and emerging artists, it will weave its way across the city during the summer of 2018. There are also 131 Little Bees on display, designed by local schools, nurseries and youth groups. It’s free, it’s fun, it’s fascinating – and it will be in Manchester from 23 July – 23 September 2018.

Slow Art Day in Salem, MA

International Slow Art Day is coming up on April 27th. It's a worldwide effort to have a different kind of art experience. The idea is to spend a couple of hours immersing yourself in just 5-10 works of art, and then meet up with individuals who have just done the same to talk about the experience. We're hosting Slow Art Day where I work, and Metafilter's own Lipstick Thespian is host. We thought it would be fun to invite MeFites to take part, and when it's all over, we can go out for a just-MeFite gathering over pints or such. [more inside]
