Tue March 26 at 8:00 PM, Oberon Theater
2 Arrow Street, Cambridge, MA, USA (Map & Directions)
You're the Expert is a funny and informative podcast recorded in front of a live studio audience at the Oberon Theater in Cambridge, MA.
Every show they bring in an academic expert and then have three comedians perform sketches about what they think the expert does. The catch is the the comedians are not allowed to do any research. At the end of the show the expert explains what the comedians got right and what they got wrong.

The comedians are funny and the experts do some interesting stuff.

UPDATE: Tickets are available here. Use the promo code OHall for $10 tickets.

At the risk of having my Internet license revoked, I can't seem to find any mention on the website of what the subject will be. Am I missing something?

The last show was just last night (and was lots of fun) so they probably just haven't updated the site yet.

Yeah I think they have not yet updated the site with who the experts will be. I will figure that out once the tickets go on sale and will post the info back here.

Okay, thanks. I had had the same problem finding the subject last time, so I wondered if I was missing something. I guess I was just checking to early.

I've updated the post with a link to buy tickets. They do sell out so get 'em if you want 'em. You can pick specific tables so if mefites want to get one all together that's possible.

Also I've asked the host to let me know who the experts will be and I'll post that here when I know.

So here's what I've decided to do, and we'll see how this works. I bought out the 5-person table #206. Using Aizkolari's coupon code, I purchased 5 tickets at $12 apiece (including a $2 per ticket fee, yeesh), and I will offer them to the first three MeFites in the thread who would like to reimburse me and sit with me and DiscourseMarker* at a table together. That will necessitate us meeting in the lobby at 7:45, so please be prepared for that.

*I can't remember if DiscourseMarker will be in town on that date or not, and she's playing Star Trek Settlers of Catan tonight in an effort to set a Guinness record for nerdiest known activity, so I can't ask her. If not, it will be just me, and four MeFites.

So I asked Chris who the experts were, and he said he tries not to tell anyone in advance. So we'll be in the dark on that but the show has been funny and interesting every time that I've been anyway.

This looks interesting, and I turn out to be free 3/26...I'd be interested in one of those tix, Horace.

Great!

I'd like another one of those tickets, Horace. I'll just make a note to bring $12 with me.

I'll come. And bring cash. In the form of $1 bills, which I will....hand over to Horace in a neat stack.

Thanks, guys! DM is indeed out of town, so I believe that means there is one seat remaining.

Thread bump to remind everybody that this is tonight. I will plan on meeting you all in the lobby at 7:45 with your tickets (unless I'm remembering incorrectly, and you need them at the front door, in which case I will wait outside). Please do your best to be on time, since I'll have to go on in a few minutes before the show starts. Of the four seats (not counting mine) maryrussell, Rustic Etruscan, and Diablevert have reservations, so there's one remaining if anybody wants it.
posted by Horace Rumpole at 9:50 AM on March 26, 2013

Horace, thanks for the bump. I'll take that last reservation and see you all there.

So I'm planning on heading into Harvard Square early to grab a bite, maybe around an hour before. I'll probably go to Otto Pizzeria, but if anyone else wants to join me, or has a better idea I'd be glad to meet up.

I'm probably going to be in the area around then. I've never been to Otto Pizzeria, but I'm sure they can't screw up pizza that badly.
posted by Rustic Etruscan at 10:27 AM on March 26, 2013

I can't wait to see everyone tonight. Sadly I will not be sitting with you but maybe we can run back the "buy a whole table" thing next time if people have fun and want to do this again.

I'm sure they can't screw up pizza that badly.

Well, I just saw a friend's 16 year old kid get a bit freaked out by the bbq beef+mango, and the one with the white beans, but there is a plain cheese+tomato safe harbor. Otto is across from the newstand, just 20-30 feet up from the Coop main entrance. I'll look for you a little before 7:00, Rustic. I'll be the guy who looks like he posts on MetaFilter.

Great, benito.strauss, it's yours.

Getting a ticket. :(
Anyway to contact you when I arrive?
posted by maryrussell at 4:46 PM on March 26, 2013

Leaving ticket for you at the entrance, we'll go on in. I'll tell them MetaFilter and maryrussell.

Great show, would do again. For those of you wondering, the subject was Integrated Corporate Reporting, and they managed to make it interesting and funny. And not knowing what the show is going to be about is part of the fun of the show.

I'm glad you had fun, benito.

Sorry I didn't stick around to hang out afterwards. My gf was feeling sick so we had to split. I'll post this again for the next taping which will be part of the Cambridge Science Festival.
