So I got inspired by the original Mefi's OwnTM Big Ideas Social Club and got the blessing to start a chapter in Brisbane. The first meeting's mostly a chance to come up with ideas for other meetings, and to see how demand is like. TEDxYouthBrisbane is at the same venue the next day, so if you want to spend a weekend here this is a good time. [more inside]

I’ve been commissioned by the Street Art Fair and AnnArbor.com to do a community based public art project. We’re growing a tree out of recycled cables. How will this work and how can you be involved? The tree will be a sculpture using recycled and repurposed materials with community help in making it grow. I’m building an armature out of a repurposed lab stool and metal posts, old window sash weights and other found objects. The tree will be fleshed out using old computer, phone and electrical cables and that’s where you come in. I need your old phone cords (coiled ones are great!), computer cables and the like. If you’re like me you probably have a box of them somewhere. You can drop them off at the Art Fair Office at 721 E. Mostly photographs, maybe some drawings and paintings. The opening will run from 5:30 on Thursday, August 26 until god knows when. Come early if you wish to eat cheese cubes. Drink specials at the bar - if you do not know the De Soto, it is in the Eldorado building right off 240 on Haywood Rd, next to the Blue Ribbon. It's a great divey bar with a wonderful jukebox. The show will be up through the end of September. Hope to see you there!
