Mike's March-End Art Part 2 - AIDS Art America

Fri March 31 at 3:30 PM, Alphawood Gallery
2401 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
Along with the meetups we've had that are fun and/or political, let's end March with a couple of free art events (that are also fun and/or political, I guess.) Join me to tour AIDS Art America before it closes.
This groundbreaking exhibition underscores the deep and unforgettable presence of HIV in American art. It introduces and explores the whole spectrum of artistic responses to AIDS, from the politically outspoken to the quietly mournful, surveying works from the early 1980s to the present.

I saw it the day it opened in December and was incredibly moved and empowered by it and really, really want to head back before it closes April 2; even if you can't make this date, if you're interested, please check it out.

I realize this time might not be idea work-wise for people, but since the museum closes at 6 on Friday, I wanted to make sure people who could had enough time. If you can only make it at 4 or 5, I recommend stopping by and seeing what you can. I'm thinking we could probably go grab a drink/dinner in the neighborhood afterwards if anyone is so inclined.

We have guests in town but I've been too dumb to get there before it closes (well, I keep planning and it keeps falling through).

Huh, I'm going to be in the neighborhood with the same guy you met last week, so it's fortuitous timing. I'll bring tissues.

That's so great. I was actually going to recommend it to you last time you were in town but now I'm glad I waited.

I will try to take a half day for this, but if if that ends up not being possible I'll still plan on coming right after work. I'd really like to see this before it closes. I'm also definitely up for dinner/drinks afterwards.

I may make it to this after all, as houseguests have afternoon plans. I'd have to bail on after plans, though.

I'm a solid 'Maybe', depending on whether I have to do work stuff or can pop out a few hours early.

I've been here for a while and trapped at the video wall which I gave no attention to my first time here.

Please don't miss the Keith Haring shrine in the vault in the alcove on the first floor semi-blocked by the laptop/speaker of the rehersal happening.

ahhh are you guys still there I got stuck at work and I'm coming now but I left my phone at home so if you go away for drinks in the next 30 minutes I won't know where you went

For those with their phones, I'm gonna suggest red lion pub afterwards.
