In honor of the 15th birthday of Metafilter, we'll be having a meetup at Science Club, the same place we had our meetup for the tenth. Please really do consider coming, even if you've never been to a meetup before. Let's make this one count!
It would be awesome if we could have a huge turn-out; there were a ton of people at the 10th meetup and it was absolutely wonderful. Feel free to be shy or nervous but please come anyway -- MeFites are on the whole very kind and understanding people and it would be super awesome if we had a bunch of new faces. If you keep thinking to yourself "I should really go to a meetup but I'm too anxious" know that 1) We have all had that problem 2) There will hopefully be a bunch of other first-timers there so you won't be alone 3) Seriously, if anyone's going to understand feeling nervous about a social interaction it is the fine denizens of Metafilter. We will be kind.
Please RSVP as early as possible so we can try to reserve some space (last time we had the whole top floor and it was awesome).

For sketchiness, it's usually best to follow Mrs. Pterodactyl's lead and be 25% less sketchy than that. This will afford you plenty of sketchiness.

Mrs. P, if you haven't been in touch with Science Club yet, best to hit them up to check on the space. Not sure how many people might make it this time, but there was a $150 reservation fee for the 10th Anniversary (kindly covered by phearlez / We Love DC).

My girlfriend and I are thinking about going. We are more in NOVA, and I've never met anyone off of Metafilter before, though I've turned quite a few people onto it. (And I've been visiting MeFi since the beginning, finding it a nice alternative to Memepool way, way back in the day.)
Science Club sounds like an interesting venue though, and we can come into for a day taking in the free stuff in DC before the meetup. It's not a hacker space, is it? We've been over to NOVA labs out in Reston a few times, but have a workbench at home so we don't go there often.
Also I've always felt pretty awkward at reddit meetups I've gone to, one in Tucson and two at Burning Man. We've been more involved with the Burner (folks who head out to the Nevada desert at the end of the summer) community, which is larger out west than in DC. So I guess what I'm trying to say is yes, we'll maybe probably sounds good but still maybe be there.

Okay, I've been in touch with them and they've said they'll reserve an appropriate space for us and put up signs saying where we are. They said there isn't a fee but I've talked to Bulgaroktonos and we will handle it if this changes for some reason.
Incidentally, I am vaguely toying with the idea of making a Metafilter cake or something so if anyone has requests/ideas/allergies let me know. See you soon!

You shouldn't really be in line at all. I'd show up about 10-15 minutes early, show them your tickets, and they'll more or less just let you head up. (At least, that was my experience for 8:30 tickets a couple weeks ago.)

I have some family obligations up in Bethesda tonight, but I should be able to make it down. It'll be later (probably 9:30-10), but it sounds like the cake situation is well in hand, so I hope to grab a bite or two once I get there.
