Gamelan! What is it, you may ask?
My son and I are going to see a Gamelan Ensemble performance by Gamelan Laras Tentrem and the Tufts University Gamelan Ensemble: tomorrow, Saturday 12/8, 7pm*, at the Granoff Music Center, Fisher Performance Room, 20 Talbot St, Somerville. We'll meet at 6:45 in front of the Fisher Performance Room (see my comment below*) inside the Granoff Music Building at Tufts U, 20 Talbot Ave in Somerville. (I think it may one floor below the entrance) If we're hungry and it's not too late, we'll go and eat something afterwards. [more inside]

Rock Circuit Trail, Middlesex Fells
Hey folks! I am planning on going to the Middlesex Fells this Sunday at 2:30 to hike the Rock Circuit Trail, summarized elsewhere thusly: "3.7 miles – Average hiking time: 4.5 hours. Much of the trail traverses rocky outcrops in this corner of the park, providing a variety of scenic views. A difficult hike." I invite you to join me! [more inside]

Board games at Knight Moves
Would anyone like to meet at Knight Moves in Brookline to play board games? It bills itself as New England's only board game cafe and has a wide selection of games to play. I'm fairly sure it allows customers to bring their own games as well. There's a cover charge of $10 Thursday through Sunday and $5 Monday through Wednesday. What times and dates would work for people? UPDATE: Come to Knight Moves near Coolidge Corner on August 29th at 6:00 PM to play some board games! [more inside]
Dune at the Brattle
The Brattle Theater in Cambridge is playing a series of David Lynch movies from Monday, February 23rd to Thursday, March 5th. Anyone want to go see one of them? I'm interested in Dune and Blue Velvet, since those are playing on the weekend, but would be up for pretty much anything in the series. EDIT: We're going to see Dune on Friday the 27th. I'd rather go at 7:00, but if outvoted, 9:30 is also fine.
Moby-Dick Marathon, New Bedford, MA
The New Bedford Whaling Museum hosts the 19th annual Moby-Dick Readathon the weekend of January 2-4. I think it's a great way to start the New Year and I'll be there most of the weekend. Would love some MeFite company for breakfast/coffee/reading/event-going. [more inside]

Movies at the Brattle on Sunday?
The Brattle Theater has a really good set of movies coming up this Sunday, 2014/9/14: Sunset Boulevard at 1:00, Chinatown at 3:15 (these two can be seen as a double feature), Los Angeles Plays Itself at 6:00, and Repo Man at 9:30. Does anyone want to go see any of these movies in particular? I saw that Los Angeles Plays Itself was scheduled and was primarily interested in that, but I'd be happy seeing any of these, really. If you want to go, leave a comment saying what movie you'd like to see! EDIT: We're seeing Los Angeles Plays Itself at 6:00 on Sunday. See you all there!

Western Mass--game or trivia?
Just moved back to Northampton and I would love to meet some people I didn't attend kindergarten with! I can see that the last meetup in this area was pretty epic--would anyone be up for something more casual, like trivia at Popcorn Noir on 3/5 or 3/12? Or board games at the Roost on those nights? Edit: Popcorn Noir it is, as it is the special International Women's Day edition and we can't miss that!
Providence/SE MA Meetup
It's 2014. Time to finally plan the meetup I've been thinking about for years. I live in North Attleboro, about 30 minutes north of Providence, and am willing to host something in my neck of the woods or the general vicinity. At a restaurant? A bar? A library? An abandoned factory down by the river? I'm definitely looking for feedback, suggestions, creative co-hosts... [more inside]
Boston-Area Board Games!
We're holding a board-and-card-games meetup at backseatpilot's house at 1:00 p.m. on September 22! The given address is not backseatpilot's: If you're coming, MeMail him your RSVP by Wednesday the 18th and he'll send back the location. If you have beginner-to-mid-level games to bring (something not totally impossible to teach to new players), feel free to bring them. [more inside]
Western Mass Meetup
It's high time we had another Western Massachusetts meetup, so we're having one on July 27 in Northampton. This will be a multistage meetup: early arrivers will gather for lunch at La Veracruzana, then the gang will head to Hinge for meetin', chattin', drinkin', and possibly gamin' through the lazy afternoon hours and into the evening, when eventually the die hards will proceed to Herrell's for ice cream. It's been five years since the last Western Massachusetts meetup, at which awesome people attended and great times were had, and I hope a lot of you can make it! [more inside]
New England Folk Festival?
Will any mefites be attending the New England Folk Festival next month - April 19-21? It's held at the middle and high schools in Mansfield, MA (they are on the same property) - the town is where 95 meets 495 outside Boston. If you have any interest in folk music, contra and morris dancing, or any of the associated awesomeness, you're sure to have a good time. [more inside]
