After a few months of trying elsewhere, we're returning to the Billy Goat for this first Wednesday because 3 years ago we were here for the Cubs winning the World Series and also we haven't found a better permanent place. I'll be there after work around 6 and we'll be there for a few hours probably and then I'm planning on heading up to Carol's Pub for karaoke and burgers. [more inside]
Rescheduled after sickness & questionable weather caused an eleventh-hour cancellation of our originally planned event: We had so much fun going to all eleven stops of the #11 Bus Beer Explorer Passport in a single day in 2016 that we did it again the next year. We missed organizing one last year, and the #11 bus no longer exists, but we're going to recreate the crawl on foot or other methods of transportation for 2019. [more inside]
It's First Wednesday again already! We're going to mix things up a little this month and try a new location very close to our traditional location. Meet us at the Red Star Bar inside Whole Foods Streeterville (255 E. Grand) for food and drink and excellent companionship. [more inside]
UPDATE: At least two of us are now sick, it's starting to rain, and we're going to push this to a different day (TBD). [more inside]
After work, we shall nonetheless gather at the Goat on this, the First Wednesday of August 2019. Tiny beers, grilled meats, unexpected party room complications! Wheel of Fortune. Internet jukebox. All this can be yours, if you join us. [more inside]

The calendar has pulled that trick again where First Wednesday falls on the first of the month, which is...this week! That's very soon, but there's still time to make plans to join us at the Original Billy Goat Tavern for tiny beers and excellent company. Even if - especially if! - you haven't joined us before, we'd love to see you on Wednesday. [more inside]
Yes, it's open again. The Press tells us it now has spacious spa-like bathrooms. No shit! Or shit! Whatever. Join us, won't you? [more inside]
The Goat is not yet reopened, but First Wednesday is next week. We will decamp to LiveWire for Metahound karaoke around 10, but where should we drunken first? We have agreed that Monk's Pub is a good place for the drunkening. Hope to see your faces there!
First Wednesday is on the first of the month in November! Don't let it catch you by surprise. Join us at the Original Billy Goat Tavern for tiny beers and excellent company. [more inside]
It's about to be first Wednesday again! Let's go enjoy burgers and tiny beers and excellent company. [more inside]

As is the other custom of our people, we gather at the Original Billy Goat Tavern, sip the tiny beers, quaff the tiny whiskeys, eat the beast (no fries). Then make the long journey to Live Wire, tip our bartenders generously and show each other the love. You know you want to.
First Wednesday is on that trickiest of calendar days this February - the first day of the month! Please join us at the Original Billy Goat Tavern, followed by karaoke later in the evening. Newcomers are always very welcome. [more inside]
First Wednesday of the month, first Wednesday of the new year! Bring your resolutions and drown them in a tiny beer (in a weird new glass) at the Original Billy Goat Tavern. Then adjourn to the Livewire Lounge (3394 N Milwaukee Ave) for karaoke of the finest sort. [more inside]
First, we meet at the Original Billy Goat Tavern. Then we decamp for shenanigans. You should join us because the world is a terrible place, but the Goat is familiar and the Chicago Metahounds are the best folks around. [more inside]
In the spirit of today's seriously crappy weather, I thought I'd take this moment to invite you to the very last possible Goat-Frog First Wednesday ever. The Goat endures, but the Frog closes mid-January. [more inside]
I keep thinking the First Wednesday is this week. But because First Wednesday is instead next week, I am posting the regularly scheduled MefiChi meet-up. [more inside]
Hey, First Wednesday is the first of July, so use your rent money to join us at the Billy Goat (430 North Michigan Avenue) and then maybe the Blue Frog . (676 N LaSalle) * [more inside]
First Wednesday is next week. Join us at the Goat for food and tiny beers after work. Follow along when we decamp to the Frog (676 N LaSalle) for booze, awkward dancing and the finest karaoke you never sang. 2015 has been dialing the awesome way up and I hope you will help us keep the trend going. Seriously, folks, why are you not joining us?
Wednesday the 7th is the first Goat-Frog of 2015. You deserve some post-holiday shenanigans. Meet at the Goat under Michigan Avenue after work. Head over to the Frog for karaoke before 10. Bring your A-game.
Alternately known as "100 Days to Anvil of Bacon Crom". Same Goat time, same Goat place, followed by same Frog place, same Frog shenanigans. [more inside]
Right? I'm reading this calendar correctly? First Wednesday in November is a week from today? Hopefully, cause I'll be Goat Frogging. You should join. [more inside]
You know the drill. [more inside]
It's next week, folks. It sneaked up on me; don't let it sneak up on you. Join fellow MeFites in Chicago for our Month of Meetups celebrating MetaFilter's 15th anniversary EVERY! DAY! OF! JULY! [more inside]
The merry month of May, so frolic, so gay, and so green, so goat, so goat! Join us for our month meet-up and drunkening. 6ish, 7ish at the Original Billy Goat in the dark underbelly of Michigan Avenue, until we get restless and move on to the Frog. Or join us Frogside, 10ish.
On behalf of the Chicago Chapter of the Cabal*, I repudiate the current rumor that there is "a rampant pro-billy goat prejudice" on Metafilter. Mr. quidnunc's allegations are scurrilous, pernicious, libelous, and, what's more, categorically untrue, and I reject them with the utmost strenulosity. That bit of business concluded, I'm pleased to announce our seventieth or so monthly meetup, to be held on the first Wednesday of March at the famous Billy Goat Tavern! [more inside]
Last night we discussed having the January Goat on the SECOND Wednesday, rather than the first, owing to that being New Year's Day, and owing to Berlin's Bowie Ball on the 2nd. What say you all? You all seem to say the First Wednesday is the First Wednesday and None Shall Encumber its Celebration. So be it. [more inside]
Well, it will be October already by next Wednesday. You know the drill: The Original Goat, under Michigan Avenue. Tiny beers, tinier whiskeys, some sort of toy surprise. Then some of us making very bad decisions about how to conduct ourselves in public or when to call it a night. You should be there. You know who you are.
Same Goat time, same Goat location. We will also honor the closing of the Bizarro Goat. And THAT is why, you DON'T OFFER FRIES.
So, Wednesday is April 4th, the first Wednesday in April. Shall we meet at the Goat as per usual?
I keep losing track of when the March Goating is. It should be next week, but for the leap year thing, it's the week after. So I'm putting it here, to keep me from forgetting. Perhaps it will help someone else. In the interests of helping others, we'll meet instead at the Grafton Pub, in Lincoln Square, where misskaz is guest bartending from 6pm-9pm to raise money for the shearing of her
goat head for charity.
So, folks, are we meeting up on January the 5th at the Goat, or will we all be a) too cold; b) too out of town; c) too tired from skiing; d) too emptied of holiday cheer to give it a try?
The Monthly Drunkening approaches. On the one hand, there will be no reporters or random gawkers. On the other, we will be responsible for our own sizzle. I think we can handle it.
