SisterHavana and I are coming to New York from (different) faraway locales to audition for Jeopardy! Care to meet us for dinner and (hopefully) triumphant audition stories afterwards? [more inside]

I'll be in Nashville for a wedding next Saturday and would really like to go visit the Mammoth Cave National Park. If any local MeFites would like to go hiking with me I'd be happy to have the company! I fly in Friday morning and have the rest of the day free. (Alternately if any local Nashville folk would rather get drinks etc., I'm game for that!)

Surely there are more than a few board gaming, card dealing, and role playing MeFites out there. Let's organize a meetup for mid-May. The afternoon of Sunday May 19th. The location is set to Mountain View but we can change that easily. If you are interested hop in the thread. If you don't like the date/time give suggestions for alternatives. Location will vary depending on the number of people. For groups < 12 I can host at my house in South Bay. If we grow larger we'll find a venue. I have access to some largish areas for up to 30 players. Games to play can be sorted out later.

International Slow Art Day is coming up on April 27th. It's a worldwide effort to have a different kind of art experience. The idea is to spend a couple of hours immersing yourself in just 5-10 works of art, and then meet up with individuals who have just done the same to talk about the experience. We're hosting Slow Art Day where I work, and Metafilter's own Lipstick Thespian is host. We thought it would be fun to invite MeFites to take part, and when it's all over, we can go out for a just-MeFite gathering over pints or such. [more inside]

Last year we walked the length of Broadway in Manhattan. Let's do it again, this time slightly more slowly and possibly with a picnic in Central Park. We will meet on the northeast side of the Broadway Bridge at 225th St at 9am on stop for a picnic lunch in Central Park (location to be determined), and finish at The Battery. [more inside]

It was recently announced that the 92nd Street Y is officially closing its downtown venue, where "Meet The Lady" and other fine arts programs have had their homes for years. That means that this Friday's installment, Meet The Lady Is Watching You! (a tribute to stalker cinema) is your last chance to catch erstwhile mefite hermitosis's lady-centric variety show, which grew out of a MeFi Project back in 2010 and has since welcomed guests such as Amy Sedaris, Nellie McKay, and Beth Grant. I see the darling rope-rider is on hiatus for a bit and I forecast myself wanting a beer on Wednesday. Perhaps others have a similar drink outlook. Someone else at the last meetup suggested 61 Local, so maybe let's try that? Open to venue change if that's really inconvenient for people or if people are afraid of change.

garbage is swinging through town on Friday April 5th at Mill City Nights. Anyone else attending? Food / beers beforehand? I really hate that they chose this venue to perform at, but oh well.
