I got a bunch of great responses to this question about what to do in Chicago, and one of the suggestions for things to do in Chicago is a meetup. So, does anyone want to meet up at Hopleaf on Saturday the 5th at around 7:30pm? [more inside]
EDIT: We got sniped on the date by some other do-gooders! Let's reassess after we do it at Hyde Park. [more inside]
RMH Dinner 1: Let's get together and cook dinner for sick kids and their families at the Hyde Park Ronald McDonald House (5444 South Drexel Avenue, Chicago, IL) on Saturday, 3/2/13 starting around 4:30pm and finishing around 8:30pm [more inside]
So the proposed meetup is cooking dinner in Feburary or March at a Ronald McDonald house to be determined. This is now defunct. See the other two proposed meetups. [more inside]
Remember that time we went out for karaoke? Man, it feels like it was yesterday. [more inside]
That Goat Frog thing that you do so well. Well, let's do it. [more inside]
October 3rd is both the first Wednesday in October (GOATUP!) and the first presidential debate of the season. [more inside]
September has begun (or will have had begun when this meetup has happened) and thus it is time for a billy goat tavern meetup followed by the totally optional (and totally awesome) karaoking at the blue frog.
April showers may bring May flowers, but May flowers make my eyes itch. Hopefully, they'll all die in June. [more inside]
I'm coming back to Chicago in June and can get together the 16th. Have you found a karaoke joint to replace the Bongo Room? I'm ok with going somewhere else for those who don't like singing.
It's that time of year again, and this time bibliogrrl and baniak will be RUNNING A CHECKPOINT. I will be there, too! [more inside]
Same Goat time, same Goat location. We will also honor the closing of the Bizarro Goat. And THAT is why, you DON'T OFFER FRIES.
Zoomorphic and her husband are in town this weekend! Let's welcome them to Chicago with a meetup. [more inside]
So, Wednesday is April 4th, the first Wednesday in April. Shall we meet at the Goat as per usual?
One night dark when we were all in bed, Mrs. O'Lantern left her leary in the shed [more inside]
I keep losing track of when the March Goating is. It should be next week, but for the leap year thing, it's the week after. So I'm putting it here, to keep me from forgetting. Perhaps it will help someone else. In the interests of helping others, we'll meet instead at the Grafton Pub, in Lincoln Square, where misskaz is guest bartending from 6pm-9pm to raise money for the shearing of her
goat head for charity.
Miss Kaz and I started a bike gang. Our first event is a bar night at one of our favorite tiny local watering holes that will end with a short, three mile group ride to the best monthly dance night in town. If you don't bike, we won't tell. [more inside]
It's that time again. Be there. [more inside]
January 4. Goat. It begins.
♫ It's the most wonderful Goat... of the year! ♫ [more inside]
Since phunniemee has requested a mid-month gathering - and she also brought up trivia earlier - We're going out for trivia on Thursday, 10/27. [more inside]
Only sixteen days to the next Goatup! [more inside]
I have no idea what I'm doing for Halloween, which falls on a Monday this year. Anyone in a similar predicament for that day, or the previous Friday/Saturday (28th/29th)?
You know you want to be there, so just say yes to tiny beers. Happy autumnal equinox evryone!
Folks I am as serious as a boring lawyer commercial heart attack with no explosions. We are eating pizza at Pequod's and everyone is going to have to explain the bathroom Gandalf. In conclusion: Pizza. Pequod's. Eating. You. Me. [more inside]
Didn't see the monthly goat-up post. Figured I'd make it. I feel like Charlie from Charlie's Angels. Nobody ever sees me, but I'm running the cabal!
There's no post for the (I assume) August 3rd Goat meet-up. Of course, I'm just wondering, since I've never actually made it to one....
Miko popped into the picnic thread to say she'd be here July 23-28 and is free in the evening while she's here (except on Sunday and Monday). Like most conference-goers, she's staying Loopish.
Since the monthly Goat is one week later, I propose a different spot. But where? There's the conundrum. We have decided upon Ten Cat in Lakeview. [more inside]
How does next Saturday, August 13 sound? Lunch and bocce ball, Horner Park.
Free Book & Media exchange at Tchad's Workroom: [more inside]
On June 10th, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art will celebrate its 20th Birthday party at The Hideout at 10 pm . [more inside]
And they're like,
yeah, it's ok...I mean, there are better places to get a burger, but this'll do just fine it's better than yours. [more inside]
Beers, pizza, drinks, at the Boiler Room! [more inside]
So, ASCO (American Society for Clinical Oncology) is coming up, and I'm curious to know if there are any other oncology-oriented Mefites (at all), and if so, if any are going to the meeting? It's a pretty big meeting -- certainly there's got to be a few, huh? A cancer-themed meetup? Could be interesting. We could, as a group, kibbitz as we roam the exhibit hall seeking out free trinkets and frozen yogurt treats.
Me and baniak will be in Portland next month. Even though we here in Chicago consider PDX our IRL rival, we come in peace and want to see how it is possible your city can rival ours in meetups. So, a BAR CRAWL! [more inside]
Come have pizza at Pequod's, home of the first pizza meetup. This time, no one gets to share Crush's anchovies. [more inside]
Music, art, video, and brainy lectures, presented by Truman College's Philosophy Club. And it's free! [more inside]
Tiny Beers, cheeseborgers, possibly springlike weather. What has everyone been up to since last month? Meet us at the usual place, at the usual time, and listen to the usual stories. It will be fun! No, really. It usually is! The question is: "What are you doing to ensure it stays that way?" That's what I thought; see you there.
Hey if you'd like why don't you come to my gig at Alive One! My band, The Heard, is playing there from 10:00 until late. Instrumental funk along the lines of Medeski Martin and Wood, The Meters, Greyboy Allstars, etc. Also $3 craft beer cans.
The Chicago Book Club's next selection is The Golden Age, a twisty cult item by Michal Ajvaz. We'll be meeting to discuss it at the splendid 3rd Coast Cafe. [more inside]
Turns out my Friday (this Friday, April 15th) is open, and though I'd like to check out jtron's show at Late Bar, there's zero chance of me doing that if I have the chance to go home and sit on my couch first. So: pizza party beforehand! There's a Giordano's half a mile south on Milwaukee though I'm open to other suggestions. Anyone interested?
Our first Friday night was a success, so we are doing it again! Some people say that taxes are the price we pay for civilization. Now that they're paid for the year, join us* in throwing off civilization's shackles. [more inside]
Billy Goat Tavern under Michigan Avenue. You know the drill.
Next up for the Chicago Book Club: Inherent Vice, by Thomas Pynchon. There will be books, beer, banter. What more could you ask for? [more inside]
My band, The Heard, is playing at Alive One in Chicago on Wednesday, March 23rd at 10 pm. [more inside]
Monday the 14th at 7:00ish, adamdschneider, eamondaly and me will be meeting at Paddy Longs for the bacon explosion (also known as the bacon bomb). [more inside]
My band is playing again! A mere two weeks after our last show, the VelAff is playing at the Red Line Tap in Rogers Park. We will be debuting a song that I wrote!
Awesome karaoke. Cheap drinks. What more do you need to know? [more inside]
