Goatober and Presidential Smackdown 2012

Wed October 3 at 5:00 PM, The Goat
430 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
October 3rd is both the first Wednesday in October (GOATUP!) and the first presidential debate of the season.
I will likely leave the meetup rather early to go home and tend to my puppy and watch the debate (which comes on at 8pm Chicago time). I know that the usual course of action is Goat-->Frog, but anyone interested in watching the debate while hanging out with a puppy is welcome to do so at my place.

That said...GOAT. I WILL SEE YOU THERE.

Goat-->Frog? That is not how evolution works.

The good news is that I'll be at the Hyatt Regency on Whacker for this day, so I probably should be able to make it, finally (it's been a while!) The bad news is that it'll be the final day of a three day conference where I have to pretend to be a business person who gives a shit about business, and the exhaustion might send me home sooner rather than later. Still, nothing helps you shake those "I am a fake business person" blues like a boorger and seven thousand tiny beers!

Oh man, one time for work I had to look professional for a thing because I was going to be meeting some people so I had to wear a shirt with buttons on it and it was awful. I don't know how some people do that every day.

(Also, very lucky that I work in an office where the dress code is basically, "please just be wearing pants. please.")

You have my greatest sympathies, Spiffy.

I am pretty sure the first Goat I showed up to I was wearing a suit because I am SO IMPORTANT and seriously all it does it make awkward sidehugs better.

I'm pro goat and pro yelling at idiot debaters while stealing puppy cuddles.

Presumably chez phunniemee is BYOB. Do we get the secret details on how to get to said home via nearby liquor store at the billy goat?

If this Wednesday is anything like last Wednesday, I will be practicing dagger disarms and longsword parries until after 10PM. I realize my presence has become less "assumed" and more "once in a blue moon" of late, anyway...

Deets on chez phunniemee:

-Yes, good point--BYOB. It doesn't even register for me to have B in my apartment because I don't drink B. I think there are two maybe three Bs in my fridge, ones that Bevos has brought over, obviously not enough B for everyone. I have been promising to bake Bevos cookies for ages, and I may just do it next week. No need to BYOC.

-Exact address will be given at the Goat, but I live off the Kedzie Pink Line on 24th Street. It's about 30 mins from the Loop. Amenities near my house are...limited. Unless you like tacos. NB: PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE TACOS ARE UNWELCOME IN CHEZ PHUNNIEMEE. SORRY.

As usual, it depends on work. I should be out of work early enough, but if I have to open Thursday, that'll make it rough. I'd like to go though, because I miss each and every one of you (some more than others, haha. I kid, I kid.)

pjern: there is plenty of parking available in the Loop if you want to pay for it. If you're a cheap bastard like me, though, I suggest checking out State street just a bit south of Roosevelt. There is generally parking available there (and the Goat is just a quick jaunt North on the Red Line). As long as your van is actually a van and not a truck of some sort, it should be just fine.

I don't know about y'all but if I do a Google search for "Obama goat", even with SafeSearch moderate, I get some weird ass (still worksafe) images.

I did this last night to try to respond to the Huntsman goat, and it sent me down a very dark path. Newsflash: a lot of people who don't like Obama are really racist.

I should have probably checked this not logged into Google. Everybody else will probably try the same thing and have it be all goats and rainbows and it will look like I'm the strange one.

Ugh, I really can't go without being a neglectful doggy mom. But maybe, we'll see. If it's raining tonight he wouldn't go outside to pee anyway so maybe it would be ok to have a drink before going home.

Definitely can't make it to phunniemee's for the debates. :/

I didn't see much racist shit (I didn't look that long) but I did find this adorable picture of Michelle in grade school and she looks exactly the same as she does now.

That's ok! I'll have more formal (as opposed to just schlep yourself over after work if you wanna) debate happenings for the other debates, to which all doggies are welcome. :)

phunniemee, do you live in a close proximity to a store which facilitates my desire to BMOB?
posted by shakespeherian at 8:43 AM on October 3, 2012

I mean that's weird, right?

I went to a small school, small enough that each senior's parents got a page in the back of the yearbook to fill with baby and little kid photos. Typically lots of fun to go through, especially when I was little, and could see what the "grown up" kids I knew looked like when they were my age.

I remember one year going through it with my brother, and landing on the page of this one girl, and my brother and I both recoiled back in horror at one of the photos.

It was her, as a toddler, with what appeared to be her fully formed adult head pasted on top. Except it wasn't pasted on top. That's just what she looked like as a toddler. Dressed up as a clown.

It has been years since I saw it, and I still think about it from time to time. Horrifying.

I just looked her up on facebook to see if she still exists--she does--and she looks exactly the same at age 37.

There's a la casa de tequila between my house and the train station, which I assume is open pretty much all the time. I've never been in there, though. I assume they have things other than tequila.

la casa de tequila means "a free case of tequila " right?

Also, I only wish I was still as cute as the kid in these pictures.

Yay -- my link was shared because I was hoping other pictures would happen. I'm not a big fan of most current baby pictures (sorry Facebook) but I LOVE pictures of people who have grown up.

(Also, it was vaguely relevant to the thread because I, like the person in phunnimee's thread, am 37, which is a connection no one would be expected to know -- welcome to the DVD commentary of my commenting process)

This is me and my awesome little brother. The inspiration for this photo was me being bored and saying, "hey, we should dress up in each other's clothes!" Except that I was also wearing jean shorts and a t-shirt, so we went to my closet and dug out a dress for him to wear so it would be obvious that we switched clothes.

This is me and my awesome little brother in a canoe in the middle of the street. That was the year the neighborhood flooded.

posted by garlic at 2:39 PM on October 3, 2012

I was also considering the Frog, but it will depend on how I pace my drinking (or more accurately, my spending, as I dumbassedly did not go to the credit union before it closed and am currently working-debit card-less)

That said, if I drink more than is currently in my wallet, I should probably stop drinking anyway.

Holy shit, why am I commenting here if it's already quarter til 5? Later gators.
