Wed November 2 at 5:00 PM, Cheezborger Central
430 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
Only sixteen days to the next Goatup!
I will bring MeFi Mix CDs, so if you're planning on attending, please click "yes"—I want to be sure to bring enough CDs for everyone.

(Also, I have sworn a blood oath to sing a duet with Eamon at karaoke, so if you want to see me make an complete idiot of myself, this is the Goatup to attend.)

I can't come to this. Can we have an alterna-goat, like, maybe this week or next?

I will come, for the first time ever . . . no pressure, if my future schedule allows it. I'm interviewing for a new job this week and I'm not sure what will be what the 2nd.

Thinking about it, I haven't listened to a real CD in probably 3 or 4 years. People still use those?

.......further thinking about it, I don't think I even have a proper CD player anymore (other than my computer).

This is where I then admit I own two turntables. *jazz hands*

I still have the boombox I got for my 10th birthday. Every time I move, it comes along. I also still have my super-cool blue diskman, complete with sexy belt clip. I also still have my massive folder of cds that I'm pretty sure hasn't acquired any new additions since I was in high school. Also the portable mp3 thingy I listen to music on now I've had for five years and cost ten bucks.

I have about tenbazillion blank cds in a storage bin under my bed, and I'd love to make mixes for everyone, but the cd drive on my computer has been broken for two years now and I can't. :(

You know that rubber goop stuff the orthodontist had you bite into to cast your retainer? Remember the way that rubber goop stuff smelled? Dinosaur labs smell like that. It's weird.

Man, my retainer was just horrible bands of metal wrapped around my teeth, connected by wire (I never got the courage to power my jaw with a potato). You kids had it good with your new-fangled goops!
posted by Evilspork at 9:12 PM on October 17, 2011

Well, my retainer gave me wicked TMJ. And years prior, before the braces, I had an "appliance" in the roof of my mouth to widen my palate; it left massive grooves in my tongue. Remind me next time you see me...I'll show you the one that still hasn't fully healed up, more than 15 years later. Big ol' trench, running down my tongue. Awesome.

(Oh, and the only tooth in my head that was ever crooked? Still crooked.)

I feel you touch me singing at The Bong
And the moment that your karaoke ends
I want to join you for another song

And I come to you in a drunken haze
Stay on pitch, harmonize, and the crowd's amazed
And it's me you need to show:

How late is your late? (How late is your late, how late is your late)
I really need to learn
Cause we're livin' in a world of beers

Part of Goatup planning and
You got me posting day and night
Just trying to keep up with you

Here at the Goat I've found my paradise
My only chance for Cheezborgers
And if have no beers I know I would die

Oh say you'll really come to this one

Then I'll watch some lawyer sleaze
Promise to make them pay

We're goin' out
To the Billy Goat Tavern
Eatin' them borgers
Drinkin' them straight-to-the-gut beers

Evil - my intestines and I have been waging war since my early teen years. The bouts are infrequent, but painfully crippling. I seriously enjoyed the last Goat-Up, and had every intention of joining in trivia night (I love playing trivia), but the ongoing surprise attacks are unpredictable.

The good thing is that they are sporadic enough, and have always been, that it's extremely doubtful that anything will happen on Goat night.

phunniemee, there is now undeniable proof that I exist. I spent EIGHT FREAKIN' HOURS with Zaximus and Eamon and Youngergirl44 and SpiffyRob and some other folks whose MeFi names I can't remember, eatin' borgers and not drinking beer and talking about pizza and Steve Jobs and gaming and zombie stripper cats. And if you need more proof, I can tell you the most o.O thing that happened at karaoke last month, and Zaximus and Eamon will confirm that I am telling the truth.

I walked around with a purple skull on my head, and Eamon bought me Shirley Temples. SHIRLEY TEMPLES. Who would make that up?
posted by tzikeh at 8:39 AM on November 2, 2011

Also I see 17 attending. Going on the assumption that some people on the maybe list will come, I will make 20 CDs. If there are more people than that, I will bring some next Goat, or to trivia.

Also I forbid Spiffy from writing parody songs in threads for meetups he is not attending. It makes me cry.

(Can I request name-tags with Real-Life names and MeFi names? I suck at names, and it's embarrassing. I'll even bring the stickers. I'm like, "man, I had a great conversation with... that one guy.")
posted by tzikeh at 8:54 AM on November 2, 2011

Oh I totally do that. In the meetup threads I'm all like 'Omigod, BevosAngryGhost is so great and fun to shoot shit with online!' and then at the meetup I'm all like 'Hey this guy Ben is really nice and funny and we talked about gin!' and then I get home and I'm like 'I wonder who he is.'
posted by shakespeherian at 9:01 AM on November 2, 2011 [3 favorites]

Yeah, the nametags may help. But trust me, without them, any forgetfulness of names will put you in the majority.... or at least a very, very sizable minority.

On the agenda for this evening: BevosAngryGhost has to explain to me where BigPumaGirl44 came from, because I have no idea.

Also, I'm bringing buckeyes from the Candy Cottage to share, courtesy of essexjan. They are the epitome of extreme peanut butter chocolate awesome, and I think I'm becoming diabetic just thinking about them.
