You say it takes 1708 hours of walking* to get from SF to Tokyo. The more you (dear reader) log your hours, the sooner we'll have gone the distance. Join any time. Track our progress. [more inside]
Sorry, I said I’d set one up, but then it slipped my addled mind. Sunday’s at 8, right? I’ve enjoyed these, and I’d hate for them to go away. On the other hand, if weekly is too much, that’s understandable.
Weekly Zoom meetup with whoever can make it. Sunday, June 28th 8pm Japan time.
Because I'm so sure I'm going to forget doing this, here's the thread for Japan Virtual Meetup #11! Sunday, June 21 at 8 p.m. [more inside]
It's week 10 of our continuing Zoom meetups! This Sunday, June 14th, at 8:00 pm (because nobody is watching the taiga drama this year anyway).
Same Zoom time, same Zoom channel. Meaning 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 7th for more conversation, trivia, etc. The link from last week should still be valid, but if you don't have it, post here and I'll forward it via MeMail.
Hey everybody, Tokyo/Japan Metafilter is on a roll! Come join us for the seventh week in a row for some scintillating conversation, moments of trivia, desktop show and tell and whatever else we get up to. [more inside]
OK! We've been a roll with one evening after another of dissection of bad to horrible films, odd flashbacks, completely missed musical connections, scary things, and other stuff that one might not feel are that fun and engaging, but oddly enough seem to keep bringing us all back. Same bat time, same bat channel. Eight pm Sunday, 17 May JST. This is a mainly Japan-based crew of Mefites, but the more the merrier if the time zone works for you. [more inside]
It's easy to lose track, but Golden Week is upon us! Let's celebrate Golden Week's Greenery Day (Monday, May 4) together!. We can all reminisce about Greenery Day events through the ages, exchange Greenery Day trivia (surprisingly, Greenery Day has nothing to do with the American rock band called Green Day), and discuss how Greenery Day has affected our lives. Do you remember where you were the year that "GD" was moved from April 29 to May 4? [more inside]
MeFites in Japan, unite! (While, of course, maintaining appropriate distance) This upcoming Sunday (April 19) at 19:00 we'll be meeting on Zoom to chat and conviviate (that's probably not a real word). You're probably at home, you're probably going stir crazy, you probably want to meet new people or see familiar faces again, so you should join us! If you want to attend, say the word and we'll send you the Zoom meeting invite link via MeMail.
Would any Kansai-area MeFites (or others visiting) like to meet up sometime during the monster Golden Week? [more inside]
I'm going to be in Kyoto from some time on March 12 through some time on March 15. Would anyone be around and interested in grabbing a food some time on March 13 or March 14?
Spammusubi and I will be visiting Kyoto between Xmas and New Year's. We'd love to meet local MeFites! Here is the map for the cafe. [more inside]
Hi, Mefites! I'm visiting Tokyo soon and will be there Oct 29 to Nov 2. I'd love to meet up and grab some food basically anywhere in the city. My evenings are essentially free and apart from Wednesday when I've got the Ghibli museum I'm down to get lunch as well.
I will be in staying in Yokohama from October 31st- November 2nd and November 5th-6th. It would be great to meet up with some mefites in Japan. Which days work for people and where is good to meet?
We'll be meeting at Bar Isshee, Shibuya to catch one of MeFite flapjax's shows! If you can get to shibuya a bit early, by 7:30, 23 and I will be outside Shibuya station by the bus-with-a-museum-inside that's right next to but less crowded than Hachiko. Brand new band, y'all, BIG SYSTEM, featuring yours truly plus Winchester Nii Tete, traditional kpanlogo drummer (plays a mean talking drum, too) from Accra, Ghana. We'll be tearing it up and all. All details and links here.
Last Smoke Benders show til... oh, sometime round December. Any of you Tokyo Mefites wanna come, it'd sure be great to see you. [more inside]
