Any MeFites in Japan?

I don't know if there's a way to tell if we have members in a given location, but there must be some in Japan, aren't there? It would be fun to meet! I'll be visiting in April. Some time spent in Tokyo, some in a couple other cities.

There’s a good handful of us! The last meetup we’ve had was in pre-COVID days, to my recollection.

I'm in Yokosuka for a couple more months. Yokohama's pretty easy for me to get to, Tokyo not out of the question.

I think arranging a meetup is more than I can take on, but I'm happy to attend if someone wants to organize one. I'm also open to meeting people on a more ad hoc basis - in small groups or solo. If it's not against site etiquette, may I suggest getting in touch with me via MeMail if you want to arrange something more informally / closer to the time, or want to "chat" a bit to see if we've enough common interests/perspectives to make a meetup fun.

Tentatively, April 2nd-5th and again about the 12th-16th.

I'll also be in a large city in Tohoku and a small city in Nagano prefectures. I don't want to post which ones here, but can discuss by MeMail if anyone in those regions wants to contact me. (Nothing shady, just being cautious about online privacy.)

Strutter Cane and I were talking, and I realized this had slipped my mind, but, and this is dependent on a lot of things, we might have an idea for a place to meetup. Back when I had my own restaurant, we had more meetups than I think we’ve had total in the nine years since.

Now, the baton has been passed, and Armage has his own place, but it’s not exactly Tokyo. He opened Southbound, a taproom and restaurant for his beer import business in Yokohama (about a five minute train from Yokohama Station). It’s a nice place, if a little out of the way, with some pretty great food (though decidedly not Japanese food, southern US inspired stuff like buttermilk fried chicken, hush puppies, and pimento cheese). It is very much a beer bar, though, so I don’t know if that would be something you’d want to do. If we’re looking at the first chunk of your Tokyo time (2nd to 5th, they’re closed on Mondays, open from 5 on Tuesday, and from 3 other weekdays. For the second end of your trip, they’re open on weekends from noon, if a lunch/afternoon get together strikes fancies.

Of the tentative dates above, the 13th or 14th would be better for me, but I could probably make any day other than the 3rd work.
