Hey there, Bay area mefites! I'll be visiting 7-13th of April and would like to have a meetup with some Metafilter-people. This will be my first trip outside Europe. I've also never been to a Metafilter meetup, so let's have one! [more inside]

Let's go to the Ronald McDonald house in Hyde Park and make Easter dinner for the families of sick kids. We've done this a couple times before. Dinner time is targeted at 5:00 pm, so plan accordingly as to when to show up. I'm planning on getting there around 3:00 to help everyone out and start working on whatever concoction I'm making...probably a lentil based stew dish. The Hyde Park house asks that we don't bring more than 12 volunteers, but I don't expect that's a problem. The house has 98% of the utensils and tools you need for cooking, we just need people to a) volunteer to be head chef for a dinner dish or b) volunteer to be sous chef for any / all of the head chefs. A variety of dishes that can get around a variety of tastes, allergies, and dietary restrictions is preferred by us, though the house is just happy for us to show up. We're typically cooking for 25 guests + us, and they'd prefer us to err on the side of leftovers if we can. We've rarely had issues with that though.

This will be my first time in Seattle, and I'm considering a move there, and I only know about 3 (albeit awesome) people there. Edit: We are decamping to one stop beer shop on Kingsland to avoid the open mic here at Boulevard. One more in my new neighborhood before I acquiesce and choose a Manhattan location for next week. I'm setting the starting time for this one at 7, since I'll be coming from work, but I can change it to 6:30pm if others want to start without me.

A meetup in the memory of Terry Pratchett. It was great going through his obit thread the other day. Terry's books influenced me a lot and helped me think about so many things in so many new ways. And I think, it would be a good idea to get together to give Terry a hearty, joyous send off. We could all come together, assume names from list of characters from his writings, may be even dress like some of them and discuss, drink and celebrate life, his and our own. [more inside]

Um, hi. I've been in Portland for two months now and will probably be staying here. I'm taking a javascript course at Portland Code School and I don't know anyone here besides my classmates. I live in the Pearl District right now and am looking to meet people to hang out with, drink beer with and just generally do stuff with. I love local lore, local adventures and meeting new people.
