Hey strange food lovers of DC! (That's people who love strange foods or strange people who love foods--we don't discriminate.) Rocklands BBQ has confirmed to me via Facebook that their yearly Grills Gone Wild event featuring rare and exotic meats will be March 7-10. Who's up for a Wednesday night picnic? [more inside]
As much as I'd like to make another "LET'S JUST GO TO COMET" shitpost now that James bloody O'Keefe of all people is going after them (it's a long story, google it) I think...I think we should do brunch in February! the thought-fox's suggestion of Yayla (Turkish, near East Falls Church metro) sounded really tasty, and we haven't done Middle Eastern yet. Let's go on the 25th at noon! [more inside]
Since our last location apparently wants to make America great again (eyeroll), let's focus on what makes DC great right now. Comet Ping Pong is a DC institution and currently under fire from conservative internet nutjobs for stupid reasons. Let's give them dollars for their pizza. Also I want to keep the #cheesygoodness hashtag I used before. [more inside]
Hello FOODIES! I think it's safe to say our regular meetups will resume next month, but my October got a little busy. So this time around, I'm just going to call it for a Sunday lunch on the 23rd and an easy-to-reach location--one that comes recommended by several MeFites. Hope you can join me for delicious fried chicken and other Korean goodies at Bonchon!
Hello FOODIES and welcome to the planning thread for our July meetup! (Sorry, I know that title pun is terrible.) Everyone seemed pretty interested in dim sum when we met up earlier this month, and my research suggests that Gourmet Inspirations in Silver Spring, MD (near the Wheaton Red Line stop) is the area's sleeper hit, both better-reviewed and apparently less-crowded than its competitors. For anyone who doesn't know what dim sum is, it's Hong Kong-style brunch tapas and it is delicious! Usually lots of dumplings and pastries are involved. Update: Date/time confirmed, hope to see you there! [more inside]
Hello food fans of DC! We had an excellent Uzbek lunch last weekend (with duffell and CatastropheWaitress' tiny adorable baby!!) and I think it's about time we got back into a routine. I promised metro accessibility, I promised vegetarian options, and I think a great way to fulfill the promise would be at Thip Khao, an excellent Laotian restaurant in Columbia Heights which wants to welcome you to the jungle. Who's in? [more inside]
Hello good people of MetaFilter! In between traveling, inclement weather, work, and other social engagements, I have somehow sadly allowed months to pass without a single food-related journey. But never fear. We ride again! And this time, we ride to Uzbekistan. Thanks to drlith's excellent suggestion, I propose that we meet on May 28th for a delicious Uzbek luncheon at Silk Road Choyhona in Gaithersburg, MD. Who's in? [more inside]
