DC FOODIES November Pizzaventure

Fri November 18 at 7:00 PM, Comet Ping Pong
5037 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC, USA (Map & Directions)
Since our last location apparently wants to make America great again (eyeroll), let's focus on what makes DC great right now. Comet Ping Pong is a DC institution and currently under fire from conservative internet nutjobs for stupid reasons. Let's give them dollars for their pizza. Also I want to keep the #cheesygoodness hashtag I used before.
I'll call and make a reservation, if they take them, based on our headcount at the end of the day today.

Getting there: lots of bus options or a 15-20 minute walk from Friendship Heights or Tenleytown metro stations. Parking should be reasonably available.

Will probably be book shopping at Politics & Prose a bit beforehand so let me know in the comments if you're interested in joining!

This sounds like fun! My schedule is pretty flexible, although I can't stay out late on weeknights. I'm a vegetarian, but am otherwise open to trying pretty much anything, cuisine-wise.

The raclette popup sounds like fun!

More restaurant ideas:

- Jaleo

- Yayla - I'm particularly interested in trying brunch there

- Busboys and Poets - Shirlington location?

- Cheesetique - The Ballston location is super-cute. I've only been there once but the food was great and it's definitely worth a repeat visit

Additional suggestions for now or future reference - Lapis in Adams Morgan (Afghan) and Indigo over near Union Station (Indian - likely better for a warm weather meetup b/c not sure they have much inside seating).

Thursdays are out for me, but otherwise I'm pretty flexible. Can't do cheese right now, though, so will sit this one out if that's the way it breaks.

I will endorse Marib, a Yemeni restaurant in Springfield. Very flavorful, pretty good vegetarian options. Likely won't make it to DC this month, but just wanted to get it added to the list!

Thanks for all the additional suggestions! (Of course, this only makes it harder to narrow down!) We haven't been out to Virginia in a while so I'm definitely noting that there is interest there.

There's a Uyghur restaurant in Crystal City that I've had my eye on for a while.

We're closing in on mid-November at this point so I will try and find a date soon. Especially because I want to be surrounded by wonderful people like y'all more than ever right now.

How are Thursday 10/17 and Friday 10/18 for everyone? And leaning toward the raclette idea for now given that it's time-sensitive but I think something in VA will be in the cards for December.

I have been to Lapis and can vouch for the quality, although it is pricey. Afghan grill was good, but not particularly memorable. If you want Central Asian food, Rus-Uz in Arlington is also good.

I'm going to go ahead and schedule the raclette thing but let's definitely do something in VA next month! Maybe I'll put up a google poll - lots of options sound amazing.

Cheesy goodness sounds yummy!

Is there some way I can identify what y'all look like, or perhaps a specific spot we can meet at? I think I met one or two of you at the ice cream social a little while back, but this is only my 3rd mefi meetup and I don't know what anyone looks like.

Oh! Another question: Does anyone have thoughts about the best way to transport in from NoVa?

- Is there parking around ENO?

- How has the Metro been? Taking the orange line to Foggy Bottom and walking is simple, but I've been royally screwed the last few times I've tried to do anything on the Metro due to all the work.

Glad you can make it! I can wear my MeFi Flag It And Move On t-shirt so you can recognize me.

Parking in Gtown is always pretty tricky and I believe the spots near ENO have late-night metering. I would recommend metro over trying to drive and park. Metro hasn't been too bad in the blue/orange zone lately and that area is also well serviced by Circulator buses if those are a better option.

So a MeFite friend just caught that they're doing what looks like a pro-Trump promotion at ENO and fuck that noise. I will go back and figure out the best next steps re: location - stay tuned for updates.

Called and apparently like Anthony Bourdain they are No Reservations. So let's show up around 7 and hope for the best!

Had to stay much longer than anticipated at work today, which means I'm going to have to (very regretfully) bow out of cheesy goodness. Hope everyone has a great time! :D

We are back by the bar, with a seat buzzer thingy, waiting on a table.

Belated thanks to everyone for getting together! Looking at my schedule for December, I don't actually think a December meetup will be possible (sadface) but I will keep track of all the recommendations, and I hope to see you all in January!
