I regret I never made it to a Chicago Goat meetup. But I may actually make the trip from the north suburbs to meet one of my favorite London mudlarkers, Nicola White, who is coming to town to meetup with Brycefoot, who does Geocaching and related stuff locally. Not the religious kind, but the “this meetup contingent appears to be sleeping, shall we awaken it?” kind. While the weather is (more or less) on our side, what do folks think about some type of low-key meetup in September or October? [more inside]

In the past I've tried doing meetups at DragonCon, at specific times and places there, and I only ever met one person that way. So I gave up. Now I'm doing it again, but differently. I'm going to be at DragonCon this year. If you're also going to be there, let me know and we can communicate and try to say hi in person over Labor Day Weekend. Nothing huge, just a chance to bump into interesting people and maybe go to related panels or get in board games or the like. I'm going alone and it'd be nice to actually see people that I know (even if just in the MeFi online kind of way).

At PyCon US 2023 on Friday, April 21st in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, I'll be co-presenting the play "Argument Clinic: What Healthy Professional Conflict Looks Like" with MeFite jacobian (Jacob Kaplan-Moss). I'll be in Salt Lake City, Utah for PyCon US this month. I'll be available parts of Wednesday, April 19th-Monday, April 24th, and would enjoy meeting other MeFites who live in SLC or who are visiting for the convention! POSTunderground is an erstwhile Jazz residency held in the basement of the Brookline VFW Post 11 on 386 Washington Street. This month, they're presenting four sets of local jazz each Friday Night—7:30PM, 8:30PM, 9:30PM, 10:30PM. There's no cover—and there is a simple bar with VFW prices (read: cheap drinks). I'm gonna go on Friday March 24, sometime around 8PM. Anyone with me?

As above, my vacation dates in San Francisco are confirmed, but I’d love it if you’ll share your fav local-best-kept-secret-fun-things/places (as an former Londoner/multi-East coaster, it’s been a decade since I was last in SF!) and as a bonus, also your company to join ne at restaurants with *outdoor seating* in the Bay area (breakfast/brunch, lunch, or dinner)! The Metafilter Transition Team (TT) is pleased to announce that self nominations are open for the inaugural Steering Committee! The purpose of the MetaFilter Steering Committee (SC) will be to develop and implement site policy, code updates, and ensure the financial health of the site. The SC works with the site staff and site owner to ensure that there is not a single failure point for site decisions or actions, and that there are an adequate number of people available to respond to community needs.
