Want to meet up in Minneapolis-St Paul?

Sat March 16 at 2:30 PM, patio (address is approx.)

3502, Harriet Avenue South, Lyndale, Southwest, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, 55408, United States (Map & Directions)

I haven't been to a meetup in years and have not been a particularly active metafilter member lately, but I'm up to meet new folks. I recently hosted a party for the Scream It Off Screen crew and regulars and it was a hoot to meet all the young people involved in it.

I'm in south Minneapolis near 36th and Lyndale.

Any venue is fine with me though I would personally prefer something not so loud. Heck, my front yard patio would probably be available.

I like the idea of meeting some new people! I moved to the area in late 2017 so I didn't get much of a chance to look for other MeFites in the Before Times.

Outdoor meeting would be preferable for me, since I'm immunocompromised - or if this was at someone's space, if we can be sure everyone is up to date on their boosters.

chazlarson, would your front yard patio be available this Sunday (March 3rd), by any chance? It's supposed to get into the 60s in the afternoon, and rain isn't expected until the evening.

I would join if my calendar aligns! I’ve been mostly a lurker for years but like meeting MeFites! I’m in Eagan, but could trek most anywhere around the Cities.

I forgot MeFi meetups existed! I'm in north Mpls, but also would be down to drive somewhere more central. most interested in porch / patio hangout that's not too loud. Just tested positive for Covid* 😭😱 so preference for weekend of the 9th/10th.

The 3rd might be tough; my wife is performing in Flyover Fest that weekend; next weekend is out so it would probably have to be the 16th or the 17th.

I'm interested but I have two young children and can't commit to anything. I'll keep an eye on the thread. St. Paul, Rondo, willing to travel.

Based on the comments, let's narrow it down to these two options:

#1: March 3rd (Sun.), noon? 12:30? 1:00?, at Kenwood park?, Loring park?, other park? This would be a BYO lawn chair, and I can bring a table if we want to have potluck snacks.

#2: March 16th (Sat.), sometime between 1:30 and 4, either on chazlarson's patio or a park TBD. The weather forecast doesn't go out that far, but, hey, we're Minnesotans, right?

Please let me know your preferences/availability for those parameters and I'll narrow down further based on responses posted in the next day or so.

PS: Is anyone getting alerts from this thread? I'm not even tho I have that preference checked.

I'm busy on the 3rd so #1 wouldn't work, but #2 would.

I got the original announcement of the thread, but I haven't got alerts for later posts within it. I'm pretty sure that's how I have it set up, though. I'll try to have a look later when I have more time.

Option 2 should also work for me. I got an alert when the post first went up. If I remember correctly, I think another alert will go out once this moves from “proposed” to scheduled as well, so more folks might see it then.

To aid in the Googling, it's on the west side of the street, no fence, white house, table and stuff out front.

Not sure why I'm being so cagey about putting my street address here given that you can just look up my name at the county. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bring whatever you like. I'll probably have some snacks or something available, but I'm not planning on laying out a buffet table or the like.

If you wouldn't mind RSVPing to me however you're comfortable, that'd be swell just so I have an idea if I'm expecting 5 people or 50 and can alert the neighbors if need be.

That is likely to be a good date/time for me. I'm likely to bring my MeFi adjacent spouse and my two generally pleasant/adorable small children (if they're having a less pleasant afternoon i may bow out at the last minute).

I’m sorry I won’t be able to join today! Was planning on attending but friends called in an emergency babysitting favor today so I’m hanging out with some toddlers instead. Would love to join next time one of these get together happens though!
