Sun May 19 at 3:00 PM, Hawthorne Asylum Food Cart Pod
1080, Southeast Madison Street, Central Eastside, Buckman, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, 97214, United States (Map & Directions)
In our March meetup thread I promised to organize the next one and make it a book & game swap to boot. Let's keep the same day of the week and time (Sunday, 3-5pm, lingering encouraged!). Confirmed date, time and location! Sunday May 19 2024 MeFi meetup and book/game swap 3-5:30pm (and lingering around!) Hawthorne Asylum Food Cart Pod 1080 SE Madison St. (between 10th & 11th )
No requirement to bring a game or book to swap, but if there's something fun you've decided just isn't your jam, bring it! For example, I would love to rehome the board game Mysterium Park and the game Cat Stax.

Any books that are unclaimed at the end of our meetup will most likely be donated at the Goodwill at 1943 SE 6th Ave or, in the case of board games, to the Scrap Creative Reuse store.

The 19th or 2nd would work for us. I think that somewhere that serves non-vegan food would be better? I had an idea of where, let me see if I can remember.

I'm busy the weekend of June 2 (as well as the following weekend), but either of the May dates work for me.

Rontom's or Stormbreaker Mississippi, assuming we're still looking for patios.

Rontom’s looks interesting to me.

Rontom's has a pitiful beer selection, so Stormbreaker gets my vote.

Another/repeat suggestion (self serving because I live in SW...). Hawthorne Asylum food cart pod has a full bar now.... 42 craft beers on draft. They're located on SE Madison between 10th and 11th. Lots of outdoor but under cover seating.

Also it looks like Sunday May 19th is the preferred date!

I'm sold! :)

I think I should be able to be there -- I've got a training in outer NE that ends at 3, so I might be a touch late, which I assume won't be an issue.

The Asylum sounds good. Both for this meetup, and to avoid the next 6 months of election madness.

ARGH. It's supposed to be 3 pm - 5:30 pm but I am having some weird formatting/form input issues with the address and it won't update the time. Will try again

(on review) nevermind, I see you already noticed...

ARGH ARGH it's supposed to be Sunday at 3pm. Dammit I got date and time wrong on the form. Time to ask for mod help...

Yay Sunday afternoon!

Let's meet in the back patio section (covered, open air). Walk past all the food carts, heading to the right, past the restrooms, and then there will be a large covered area with picnic tables. I'll try to get there a bit before 3pm and stack some games on the table as a signpost.

Susan had her knee replacement about ten days ago. Things are getting slightly less hectic but I don't think I'll make it today. Hope everyone has a good time and I'll try and see you all at the next meetup.

Just got here, don't see anyone yet...

We’re at the western edge of the covered zone, right where the open area with picnic tables (there’s one red sun umbrella) at those tables. (I flagged down Greg!)

Next one in July? Maybe a summer themed potluck at a local park?

A lovely afternoon thanks to good company (accompanied by sudden showers and essential 20 minutes of heat lamps) and my new favorite Mexican option in town, Texicano! (The spouse at the house confirmed that the carnitas tacos were excellent and the accompanying condiments delicious).

A summer park meetup sounds fun!

I just remembered that the Mt. Tabor picnic shelter got smooshed in the January storms. Some place with decent shade options? Stevens Pavilion up at Hoyt Arboretum is nice and cool, but, assuming Sunday afternoon remains our time slot, may be booked for a private event on a summer weekend.

Hoyt Arboretum charges big $$$ for their shelter, and in fact most of the metro area charges but some charge a lot and some charge not so much. METRO or county sites may be good choices?
