WisCon, May 24-27, is an annual feminist science fiction/fantasy/literature/media convention and this year's Guests of Honor are G. Willow Wilson and Charlie Jane Anders. May 25-28, 2018: WisCon is an annual feminist science fiction/fantasy/literature/media convention and this year's Guests of Honor are Saladin Ahmed and Tananarive Due. WisCon features smart, funny conversations, interesting sessions you can sign up to participate in, great accessibility and affordability, and more; here's more on the environs, the con, the crowd, other attractions, etc. There are discussion panels, structured activities, parties and events, $1 childcare, gaming, readings, poetry, a dealer's room to buy stuff, a Con Suite with an array of snacks, a Member Assistance Fund for people who need financial help to attend, safer spaces for people of color and for trans/genderqueer people, and a dedicated Quiet Place where you can catch your breath and decompress. May 27-30: WisCon is a feminist scifi/fantasy convention celebrating its 40th year. This year's Guests of Honor are Sofia Samatar, Justine Larbalestier, and Nalo Hopkinson. There are discussion panels, structured activities, parties and events, $1 childcare, a Con Suite with an array of snacks, safer spaces for People of Color and for trans/genderqueer people, and a dedicated Quiet Place where you can catch your breath and decompress. In particular I'm working this year's Saturday night Tiptree Award charity auction - promises to be a fun show.

So, I've arrived in Madison (thanks for all the helpful answers to my Ask!) and I was wondering if anyone wanted to have a meet-up over a beer or two. I don't have a time or place in mind but somewhere near the university would be most convienient for me. Date-wise I was thinking sometime in the next couple weeks. Hi all! My husband and I are new to Madison (we moved two days before the huge snowstorm in December!). We’d love to meet some of the local Mefites. I haven't seen any Madison meetups proposed, but there seems to be a lot of Mefites around... [more inside]

So, last year, we tried to have a WisCon meetup, and it didn't come off as cleanly as hoped. So I am going to get the ball rolling. WisCon is 25-28 May 2012. The last day is Memorial Day, and not so great for a meetup, so that leaves 25-27. My suggestions for a venue are: [more inside]

Hoperaiseshell needs to visit the University of Wisconsin for her vet school and I am tagging along for the ride. We will arrive in Madison around the evening time of Thursday March 23 and leave Friday evening. [more inside]

This will be my first time attending and I'd love to get to know Mefi's geo community in person. The preliminary program (PDF) they've put out looks kind of packed, so I'm open to times and places.

MeFites going to WisCon: I suggest we meet up during the Strange Horizons tea party, Sunday afternoon. Free light snacks and tea, hobnobbing with authors and editors.

There are 3 events going on Saturday afternoon around the capitol: Noon - Farmer Labor Tractorcade around the Capitol Square, 2 pm - Arts Workers March Together (from the Overture Center for the Arts), 3 pm - AFL-CIO rally at the Capitol. So let's meet up before all that to get warm, get caffeinated and get ready. I'm flexible on location, I picked Michelangelo's because it's close and I was there last weekend.

are any mefites doing anything protest-y regarding gov walker's assault on the public employee unions? i'm considering making the drive down from central WI at some point in the next couple days to do...something? it would be cool to meet some fellow badger mefites and help to show walker and his pals that WI is not backing down without a fight...i feel kinda useless behind my PC up here... ...what can we do ?
