In light of recent post on icemen, I'd like to invite folks to Skansen this weekend, where I will be delivering ice on both Saturday and Sunday, 10-16. Sunday is COOP day, so if you have one of those green cards in your wallet you get in for free. This day is notorious for high visitor numbers, so consider yourself warned. I hang out mainly in the environments representing the 1920s and 30s, so Skånegården (previously) and the hardware store quarter.

With various people’s world travels wrapped up and the UW summer quarter over and the MeFi financial situation as dire as ever, what say we get together again at the George and Dragon to make our weekly cash withdrawal for the cause? [more inside]

The Know Show: Rise of the Machines. Toronto's only SCIENCE-themed comedy variety show, The Know Show, will be featuring a special guest this month—grouse! Jenna LeBlanc and Maddox Campbell host an evening of science-based sketch comedy, an interview with me, and improv somehow based on the interview with me. Labor Day Weekend is fast approaching in Atlanta which means time again for Nerdi Gras, or as it's more properly known, DragonCon! A general "everything" fandom convention run mainly on volunteer labor, in contrast to conventions that are driven by the marketing departments of major mass media outlets, it's 5 days of fun spread across several city-block sized convention hotels. Going by past year's IRL posts, there's usually roughly a dozen or so MeFites on average who on any given year. That's out of a crowd of 80,000+ attendees, so chances are we'll never run into each other. But the central host hotel also was once The Capitol District's Tribute Training Center a few years ago, so May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor. [more inside]

A new Vermont resident has called for a meetup and turtlegirl and I are offering our home/farm as the venue. A traditional New England potluck gathering, and we'll provide the grill and the lovely views. [more inside]
