The Know Show: RIse of the Machines

The Know Show: Rise of the Machines. Toronto's only SCIENCE-themed comedy variety show, The Know Show, will be featuring a special guest this month—grouse! Jenna LeBlanc and Maddox Campbell host an evening of science-based sketch comedy, an interview with me, and improv somehow based on the interview with me. I don't really understand how it works but I'm excited to find out! Hope you can join.

Worldcon Meetup?

Worldcon is in Helsinki this year (http://www.worldcon.fi) and I'm bringing resident 11 year old. Dates are 9-13 August though I think we are arriving on the 8th. Anyone else planning to be there? I've been to 2 Worldcons before and generally the problem I've found is I have no problem talking to new people but meeting up with people I already know can be difficult if we haven't made concrete plans as Worldcon is just so big. While I am all about the sitting and drinking, that probably won't be very 11 yo friendly so I am open to other suggestions - maybe a picnic or walk near the convention centre? Or an evening meal?

DragonCon 2015 Missed Connections Thread / Meetup Coordination

Labor Day weekend is almost upon us again, and that means DragonCon in Atlanta. (Please don't call it Dragon*Con, they had their *-hole removed two years ago at no small expense.) Even though an actual organized MeFi meetup is not likely to survive everyone's various convention plans, we can at least use this thread to talk about those plans. NOTE: like last year, the time and place listed are for the registration line, the event itself lasts Thursday-Monday, and is spread across 5 high-rise hotels and a nearby convention center. Bar Studies 101, Melbourne Fringe Festival

Professional science communicator, Mefite lurker and mate of mine Owen is doing a show at the Fringe Festival this year: science demonstrations you can do with alcohol and bar equipment. I went on opening night and it was great fun. I want to go again to see how the show is shaping up over the course of the festival and with Mefites' love of bars, drinking and science thought I'd make it an event in case folk were interested. I'm proposing Tuesday because it's tight ass Tuesday, but it's running most nights of the week. If you're keen but can't make that night, I'm pretty flexible. Official blurb under the fold. Solar eclipse viewing for Exploratorium members and friends

Do we have enough astronomy buffs and Exploratorium members to enjoy the partial solar eclipse on the evening of Sunday, May 20th at the Members Appreciation Night shindig? Members can usually bring guests (depending on the level of membership), so buddying up with a member would work for those who aren't members themselves. [more inside]
