Wed October 3 at 7:00 PM, American Museum of Natural History
200 Central Park West, New York, NY, USA (Map & Directions)
If any wants to go have a drink and listen to a science talk the American Museum of Natural History has a monthly SciCafe event. This months topic is "The Whole-Life Catalog: Why and How We Should Map and Understand the Biosphere." This months is on on Wed. Oct. 3 at 7pm. Admission is free, but there is an RSVP feature on the event page.
This month "Museum paleontologist and Provost of Science Michael J. Novacek. Dr. Novacek will discuss why and how we should create a comprehensive inventory of species, understand the evolutionary relationships of the major branches of life, and probe the connections between the genome and the more external traits of organisms that their genomes influence. Using amazing cyber-technology, we can explore the evolution and organization of life as never before."

It would be nice to have some company to go to this with!

These are awesome, but FYI when I went to one ~1y ago, 20 minutes "early", it was JAMMED (no seats availablem big lines). They are popular events......get there w/plenty of time to spare if you wanna seat.

It seems you've got the address wrong--the map is showing it on the wrong side of the park.

Ok i fixed the address! I think if anyone wants to go we should probably meet a bit before the event starts so we can get seats but we can arrange that closer to the date.

I am going to try and go but if it's crazy full I might bail. I am not familiar with the place they do these, any ideas about a meeting spot?

I'm actually at a loss as to where the best place to meet would be. If people can get there early we can always just meet outside. The easiest place might be on the front steps in front of the unmissable guy on a horse. If anyone gets there later i'm putting my cell number in my profile for the duration.

Hope to see some of you later!

Is amnh.org loading incredibly slowly today for anyone else? It keeps timing out when I go to rsvp...

Managed to meet SpaceWarp and had a fine time. Yay science. Highlight of the night may have been learning about the existence of this guy.
