Beer! Conversation! ...Beer!

Because (a) we haven't had a pub meetup in a while, along with (b) my own rather sequestered circumstances and (c) general consternation over the state of the nation, I could really use a restorative or three and some amiable palaver.

New Salon NYC - Meeting #10

This time out, we'll be chatting about the challenges inherent in "the unalienable right to pursue happiness," whether unhappiness is mostly caused by the gap between who we are and who we want to be, and whether it's really happiness we lack when we feel unhappy. Please join us for drinks and conversation at the next Salon in Brooklyn, on October 27, 2016 at 7:30 PM. (Note new date) [more inside]

The Puget Sound District of the International Socialist Organization is hosting a "BBQ, beer, and conversation about radical labor history" in Ballard featuring MY MOM Anne Mackie, revolutionary socialist and former Teamsters Union organizer. If you plan to attend please RSVP via Facebook (so the organizers can get a head count) in addition to RSVPing here, arrive promptly, and read the homework assignments (1, 2, 3, 4) in advance.

Slow Art Day in Salem, MA

International Slow Art Day is coming up on April 27th. It's a worldwide effort to have a different kind of art experience. The idea is to spend a couple of hours immersing yourself in just 5-10 works of art, and then meet up with individuals who have just done the same to talk about the experience. We're hosting Slow Art Day where I work, and Metafilter's own Lipstick Thespian is host. We thought it would be fun to invite MeFites to take part, and when it's all over, we can go out for a just-MeFite gathering over pints or such. [more inside]

Wikileaks discussion

Hey Philadelphia mefites, I'm very interested in the ongoing wikileaks drama, and wanted to talk about it in person with other smart, thoughtful people. And metafilter has proven itself in this thread and others as full of such people. Is anyone interested in meeting up at a bar tonight and sharing thoughts and conversation about this topic? I know it's short notice, but I hope some of you can make it! [more inside]

Les amis de mathowie

I promised hapax_legomenon and rtha I'd post another French meetup... How does Tuesday the 30th work? Thoughts on venue? (Ideally BART-accessible, French theme not required. Actually, it occurs to me that les Belges parlent franais aussi...)

San Francisco French Convo Meetup

Bonjour! Time for our third meetup. I'll propose next Tuesday, 10/12 6:30ish but we need a venue. I think we decided last time that conversing within a French ambiance is not mandatory, although a much cheaper food/drink option is. People, throw out your suggestions. [more inside]

San Francisco French Convo Meetup

Our inaugural rendezvous this past Monday night was un grande succ0232;s so we've decided to continue on a bi-weekly basis. Monday and Tuesday nights seem to be best (for now). We need a better venue than Caf0233; de la Presse so please suggest some better and BART-friendly alternatives! I propose Monday 9/27 as our next date. Thoughts?
