So this was the event The Chicago Cabal* was hoping to do but the list was already full. One of the organizers just reached out to me today because they had a whole group of six volunteers bail and they're really hoping we can fill the gap and help them throw a great birthday party for some wonderful kids! Oh hey, Wednesday is first Wednesday. So join us at the Original Billy Goat Tavern where we eat sandwiches, drink tiny beers, and talk about stuff and junk. Then possibly on an adventure to other places (I'm assuming, but have not confirmed, LiveWire Lounge for rockstar karaoke). We're friendly; you'd like us.

I haven't seen any meetups proposed for Philadelphia, so I'm wondering if there is an active enough contingent there to warrant putting one together. Philly MeFites, are you there?

I'll be in Hong Kong doing research through the end of July, and I'd love to meet a few HK-based Mefites. Would folks be up for getting together--I'm thinking an inexpensive noodle shop for dinner, then/or an earlyish drink--sometime in the next few weeks? [more inside]

I'm interested in planning a meet up where people can chit chat and get to know each other. I've never been to a meet up so I don't really know how these things go. I would say we could go to a chill bar as long as they have non alcoholic drinks. If anyone has other ideas, those would be great too. Proposed time: early evening, in a week or so. Does anyone have preferences for time and day?

I am an underemployed person looking to get more structure in my life. Wondering if there are fellow underemployed or self-employed MeFites who might want to meet in a common space periodically and go about their business (or pleasure) in the excellent company of one another in the East Bay area (Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito). Worldcon is in Helsinki this year (http://www.worldcon.fi) and I'm bringing resident 11 year old. Dates are 9-13 August though I think we are arriving on the 8th. Anyone else planning to be there? I've been to 2 Worldcons before and generally the problem I've found is I have no problem talking to new people but meeting up with people I already know can be difficult if we haven't made concrete plans as Worldcon is just so big. While I am all about the sitting and drinking, that probably won't be very 11 yo friendly so I am open to other suggestions - maybe a picnic or walk near the convention centre? Or an evening meal?
