Awesome karaoke. Cheap drinks. What more do you need to know?
Such a great bar. and their song list is NUTS. The crowd is friendly, and the place is right off the el. What more do you want? Oh, and Chubby Wieners is directly across the street.

I promise that if you miss the porn, eamon, I will load up youporn on my phone and hold it up while you sing, kind of like waving a lighter, only not.

I can't lose!

eamon, I don't think you could EVER lose.

So, uh, there isn't anyone that comes from Michigan down to the Chicago meetups, is there?
posted by waxlight at 8:18 AM on March 8, 2011

I'm coming to this! I cannot miss this again! I am preparing my karaoke secret weapon as we speak.
posted by Zaximus at 11:08 AM on March 8, 2011

Zaximus - I AM TOO. We will both have karaoke weapons, and it will be AH-MAZE-ING

This is within spitting distance of my soon-to-be foreclosed abode. I will be there!

Anybody from Rosalind Franklin up in North Chicago?
Here's to hoping. (ps I wear a Metafilter shirt, say hi!)

9:30 is too late. I'll be there 8:30. Who's with me?
posted by eamondaly at 7:12 PM on March 14, 2011

Eamon - I can come early because I live nearby. We can talk derby stats shop or you can make good on your promise to play a game of my making with only one rule - I win every time.
posted by crankyrogalsky at 5:07 PM on March 15, 2011

eamon - the karaoke doesn't start until 930, but you can show as early as you like.
posted by bibliogrrl at 6:54 PM on March 15, 2011

Zack said he was in there at 9 and karaoke was underway, hence the suggestion of an earlier start. In any case, yeah, I'm going to plan on showing up early. 9:30 gives me too much opportunity to bail.
posted by eamondaly at 6:18 AM on March 16, 2011

Cranky, you were clearly the snatch queen. I don't know what you were complaining about.
posted by eamondaly at 6:20 AM on March 16, 2011

So I got there sometime between 9-9:30 last go-around and it looked to me like they were well into it already. I don't know if they just started before I walked in or what, but I was going to try to get there a little earlier too.

being the only girl at the table pretty much ensured that. i like those odds.
posted by crankyrogalsky at 2:42 PM on March 16, 2011

We will try to be there at 830. I have no guarantees that I will do my (not so) seekrit song though.
posted by bibliogrrl at 3:55 PM on March 16, 2011

But..but we will all be there to give you that toot toot and/or beep beep!

Should we invite Ghidorah?
posted by tzikeh at 6:49 PM on March 16, 2011

YES.
posted by bibliogrrl at 7:03 PM on March 16, 2011

Sent Ghidorah a MeMail - he won't be staying in Chicago on the 18th, but I'm waiting on a second response to when he might be staying in Chicago at all. I'm sure the Cabal would be happy to host a second meet-up if he has the time....
posted by tzikeh at 7:22 PM on March 16, 2011

there is no Chicago Cabal. Another auxiliary meet-up would push this month into some sort of meet-up-a-thon, right? That would be fun. Not as good as the weekend-long meet-up. But pretty cool.

Well, I've got spring break next week. What would folks say to a mid-week meetup at Fountainhead for food, beer and whiskey?
posted by hydrophonic at 9:34 AM on March 17, 2011

Dammit to hell. Next weds is BAD. There is already a meetup next weds (look at IRL!!) and I have a bd party to attend before.

IS THIS WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE POPULAR? I JUST WANT A NAP.

But man. I still haven't been to Fountainhead (a mile from my house!) and otherwise I'd be all over that.
posted by bibliogrrl at 9:54 AM on March 17, 2011

I'm just stirring the pot. It's unlikely I could make any auxiliary meetup, as I have fundraiser, lecture, board meeting, family, wedding madness, now until mid-April. But y'all go on, have fun!
posted by crush-onastick at 11:42 AM on March 17, 2011

That's too bad, crush. I suggested Fountainhead because I know you like your whiskey.

Wednesday at Fountainhead would be early enough for those who are going to see The Heard. (I likely won't go. I still have to work over spring break, I just don't have to work evenings.) Or we could try for Tuesday or Thursday. I don't think Fountainhead can accommodate us on the weekend.

No big deal if it can't happen this week; I can try again in the summer.
posted by hydrophonic at 2:40 PM on March 17, 2011

I will gladly drink whiskey in the summer.

Running 15-20 minutes late, fyi. Sorry about that.
posted by eamondaly at 6:15 PM on March 18, 2011

Hooray! Thanks, everybody! Had a hell of a time. Special thanks to hydrophonic for making a valiant attempt at giving me a lift on his bike even though that had zero chance of success.
posted by eamondaly at 12:09 AM on March 19, 2011

Well, I had fun trying. Did you make your bus?
posted by hydrophonic at 5:23 AM on March 19, 2011

FYI - we will be doing it again next week. And most Fridays. I love that place.
posted by bibliogrrl at 9:53 AM on March 19, 2011

if eamon will do marvin gaye, i'm in.
posted by crankyrogalsky at 9:11 PM on March 19, 2011

Yes, I made my bus with four minutes to spare! And did I promise Marvin Gaye? I'll totally do Marvin Gaye. Fridays are generally bad for me, so it'll probably have to be at the Frog or the Bong though.
posted by eamondaly at 5:26 PM on March 20, 2011

Glad you guys had a great time -- please keep me posted if you keep doing it on Fridays even if it isn't an IRL thing and I'll keep hoping to come and not being so tired at the end of the week that I decide to "take a nap" after work and end up not waking up until late Friday night/early Saturday morning. I realize this makes me incredibly old-sounding and lame and appreciate any effort helping me leave the house to prove otherwise.
posted by MCMikeNamara at 9:25 AM on March 21, 2011

Bibliogrrl and I are here this week! I'll make an IRL for next Friday soon
posted by Zaximus at 10:27 PM on March 25, 2011

i'll be there next week for sure.
posted by crankyrogalsky at 7:27 AM on March 26, 2011

are people going this week? is it spyner's or frog or bong or some other oddly named joint? my plans for saturday are actually for the following saturday - so i can stay up late friday. just like real adults.
posted by crankyrogalsky at 4:32 PM on March 30, 2011

YES. 930!!! At Spyners. I am pretty certain there is a Bong happening too, but we are going to Spyners (sorry Bong people!)
posted by bibliogrrl at 8:04 PM on March 30, 2011

can't we all just get along? i haven't been invited to bong - but i require a single girl : single boy ratio to make a final decision. (help a sister out here)
posted by crankyrogalsky at 10:22 AM on March 31, 2011

What the... I didn't know this thread was still active! Everyone's always invited to the Bong!

Hmmm, need our own little Chicago chat/board to keep up.

(btw, I'm not sure anyone is reading this anymore either, but here's the Fallon clip from last night, with sound! http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/blogs/2011/04/stephen-colbert-sings-friday-with-the-roots/)
