No damn good reason but let's do this anyway

Fri May 23 at 6:30 PM, Palo Alto Creamery
566 Emerson Street, Palo Alto, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
Peninsula people! We seem to have this really bad habit of only meeting up when someone is coming in from out of town. Whaddya say we break that pattern and meet up just for the heck of it? May is good for me. I'll go anywhere on the Peninsula but bonus points for Caltrain-friendly. Y'all feel free to propose specifics. Dive bar? Food trucks? Other? Let's do this.

Palo Alto Creamery?

Stanford Theater for a Barbara Stanwyck movie?

Ooh. May's already looking a bit tight, but I think I could make it most Fridays except the coming one, if that works for other people?

Also, I think JDC8's suggestions have serious AND potential.

I just moved here and like meetups, so consider that a reason if you need one!

There's also plenty of places in Redwood City that are close to the Caltrain Station there, for example Gourmet Haus Staudt beer garden or maybe City Pub? I've walked by Milagros Cantina a bajillion times and it's *huge* but we would probably need a reservation (which is not necessarily a bad thing). One of my movie meetup groups frequently goes to Cafe La Tartine as well.

But, I mean, the Creamery is MY FAVORITE so I wouldn't turn it down. :)

I don't know if I'll be able to make it once plans solidify—my schedule's kind of unpredictable—but color me interested. I don't much know the area, though.

City Pub is pretty good for large-ish groups and is within sight of the RWC Caltrain. I might be able to make it depending on the date, have an upcoming trip but am still not sure what the actual travel days will be. Other good RWC places are the Living Room (couches, coffee tables, board games, nice layout) and Martin West, a gastropub.

I just got back from lunch at Martins West. Kind of fancy and pricey for a meetup. The other RWC options sound good though.

When are y'all doing this? I might be in town ;-)

We haven't decided! When will you be around?
posted by tangerine at 10:45 PM on April 30, 2014

I'll be actually in Palo Alto on Thursday May 8, but I'll be in the Bay Area (and available) also on Sunday afternoon, and Monday day and night. (I wouldn't want to steal your lets-do-this-anyway vibe though ;-))

I got cast in a play (The Birthday Party by Pinter) at Dragon Productions in Redwood City! Whooo hoo!

Anyway, that means I'll be in Redwood City rehearsing a lot of weekday evenings starting May 14th and several Saturday day times in May, so this could work for me.

I'd love to do something if it's not in SF. I don't like driving up to SF.

So nat is around tonight. Anyone up for something this evening? I can't be anywhere before 7:30 or so, but would gladly pop out for a quick impromptu excursion.

(That's not to forestall any subsequent plans. We need LOTS OF MEETUPS down here on the peninsula! So many of us live here!)

Oh whoops things got a little much IRL and I spaced out this thread. Let's nail this down.

May 16? May 23? Palo Alto Creamery? City Pub? I guess the question is whether we want a booze option, as I don't think the Creamery serves alcohol (please correct me if I'm wrong!)
posted by ambrosia at 4:29 PM on May 10, 2014

Sure, the Creamery serves alcohol. They have the Bubbly Burger, served with a bottle of Dom Perignon. Only $195. Oh and I guess you could order some beers too, but what's the point of that?
posted by zsazsa at 10:19 PM on May 11, 2014

Okay, awesome. Let's hit the Creamery, then. Any preference on dates, so I can move this from the "proposed" to the "confirmed" category?
posted by ambrosia at 4:52 PM on May 12, 2014

I have a mild preference for the 23rd.

So do I.

Okay then, let's do it!

Sweet! This is 2 days after my birthday.
posted by Space Coyote at 7:18 PM on May 14, 2014

Okay everyone, we are on for tonight! We can celebrate Space Coyote's birthday and also raise a glass to Jessamyn, LobsterMitten and gnfti.

If I can duck out of work, I'll be there! I need the break.
posted by zsazsa at 1:34 PM on May 23, 2014

Just me checking in again- if I make a reservation, the Creamery won't seat us until the party is complete. Are people planning on being there closer to 6:30, or kind of trickling in? Trying to figure out what to do.
posted by ambrosia at 4:20 PM on May 23, 2014

I probably won't be able to get there till 7-ish.
posted by tangerine at 4:34 PM on May 23, 2014

Trying to arrive right at 6:30 as I have to split around 7:30 for evening duties. Leaving Cupertino around 6.
posted by morganw at 4:46 PM on May 23, 2014

I will also be leaving Cupertino at the same time.
posted by zsazsa at 5:25 PM on May 23, 2014

I am over at Coupa Cafe, since I got off work early. I can be there on time or early if you need me to.
posted by sarahnade at 5:46 PM on May 23, 2014

Just got off work, I'll be there right around 6:30.

:(
Stuck at work until probably 8.

I'm at the location, but there's a bookshop right near, so I can wait as long as what's necessary.

Heading over now. Anyone sitting down yet?
