Boiler Room Pizza Auxiliary Meetup
posted September 21, 2010 3:51 PM   RSS | iCal | +googleCal

Wed October 20 at 6:00 PM, Boiler Room
2210 N California Ave, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
The $7.50 PB&J at Boiler Room comes with a sprawling slice of dank pizza, a PBR tallboy, and a shot of Jameson. Do I really need to write anything else?
It is a grand tradition for the non-existant Chicago Cabal to have one mid-month Pizza Auxiliary Meetup. They generally take place at Pequods, will never again ever take place at the downtown Giordano's, and now for the first time will take place at the highest echelon of drunk pizza-scarfing in Logan Square: Boiler Room.

They have a large communal table that can seat 15/squeeze 20 which I'm going to reseve, and a number of smaller booths that can be commendeered for spillover lest we attract too great a number of n00bs/nerds.

The Boiler Room is directly across the street from the California Blue Line stop-I'm talking gleeking distance, here-and is easily accessed from the Milwaukee or Fullerton bus.

IN! (always in for pizza if I am in town)

I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH ALL THESE MEETUPS!

We're so close to beating NYC, BTW.

Dang! If only this were on Tuesday or Thursday.

You've put it within walking distance, there's very little chance of my getting a mid-week wrestling gig... I don't see how I can not go to this one.

Never heard of Boiler Room, though; I'm a hardcore Piece fan. Mom's is good, too, for neighborhood delivery
posted by jtron at 8:25 AM on September 22, 2010

OK, so the pizza is dank. But is it heady, man?

JB, I know you would walk to my house and drag me there by my hair if I didn't show. :-)

League meeting, but I can probably come by afterward for a Boilermaker or two.

Dammit, I'll be on a work trip in Orlando. (ugh). Have fun!

Piece is Wicker Park, Boiler Room is Logan Square. They both have their place, though I'm gonna walk past Piece and into Santullo's any day.

(fighting words)
posted by Juliet Banana at 11:04 AM on September 22, 2010

Piece is my HOME BASE. I mean, they KNOW ME. It's like cheers and shit (especially if I go in on a Monday).

Santullo's is ok, but half the time I get terrible heartburn from their sauce.

FYI, that night is also the Return of the Stripping Dead (NSFW!) over at the Admiral Theater, starting at 9pm.
posted by eamondaly at 2:43 PM on September 22, 2010

Cole's is my Cheers. They actually started recognizing me the second time I came in, which is almost creepy.* How can you be a regular if you've only been there once?

*creepy AWESOME
posted by Juliet Banana at 3:40 PM on September 22, 2010

I know someone who works at the Admiral. Maybe I can get us in free? I dunno. I'll check it out.

You don't exactly blend in, JB. ;-)

Yeah, but from all the doppelgangers people keep sending me pictures of every dark haired girl with huge glasses looks the same.

Most of the clones don't dress quite as obnoxiously as I do, though, this is true.

Yay! My chef-comrade just confirmed via text that he will out a "reserved" sign on one of the big tables for us. I get off craaaaazy early this day so I might be pregaming at Coles. At, like, 4 in the afternoon.

I have a complicated relationship with alcohol.

I could use some karaoke soon. Too bad I'm out of town for this one...

Another Wednesday? Too bad it couldn't be a different day. I'll try to rearrange my other drinking engagement.
posted by Bunglegirl at 11:26 PM on October 15, 2010

Shit! I was really going to come to this but Wednesday is the only night people's schedules worked out for band practice, and we're playing at Quenchers on Thursday. Might be able to meet up later on though.
posted by evisceratordeath at 6:29 PM on October 17, 2010

I'm with MissKaz. I'm jonesing for some good old karaoke. I'll bet you even Miss Mary Mack misses us because there is no one to keep the "Don't Stop Believing" at bay.

Logan Square just feels wicked far. But I've never been to BR and PB&J does sound all kinds of up my alley...

Is it sad I'm already looking forward to getting wicked smashed and trying to drag people to Cole's?

DUDES. THERE IS KARAOKE AT THE BONG IN 2 WEEKS. :D

Anyhoo - because we are laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame, me and baxter_ilion will not be coming out after all. I'm getting over something, and we need one evening at home this week to slump on the couch in exhaustion.

Yes, we suck.

A FEW POINTS:

Boiler Room is cash-only. If you use their ATM you will be charged a $2.75 fee, but you can trade your slip for a shot of Jameson. TRUE FACT.

Today is Spirit Day and it'll be really awesome if this is the first and only Metafilter meetup where everyone is wearing purple.

This is going to be awesome.

Also, Phunniemee, if you actually attend you'll get to watch me drunkenly draw stacks of Valentines using your answer to my most recent Ask Me question as reference.

I really need to go back and mark that Best Answer. BUT I'M NOT GOING TO UNLESS YOU COME TO THE MEETUP (evil laugh)
posted by Juliet Banana at 10:22 AM on October 20, 2010

I am wearing black. The only purple article of clothing I even own is a necktie.

I have to go home and change beforehand because I am currently INSUFFICIENTLY TWEE

If it's dark enough, nobody will be able to tell it's not purple.
posted by eriko at 10:27 AM on October 20, 2010

I might make it. I have a trip tomorrow, and my right maxillary sinus hates me and is trying to destroy everything that I know and love, but it's close enough that I can at least try to say hi.

If I do, I will try to wear purple. Well, to *me*, it'll be purple, but when you have a fairly severe case of deuteranomalia, colors are a such a...flexible...thing.
posted by eriko at 10:32 AM on October 20, 2010

I am wearing purple in support of Spirit Day! It is a purple striped shirt! It is definitely striped this time!
posted by SpiffyRob at 10:34 AM on October 20, 2010

I think I have a purple bandanna and I would bring it and make someone where it but enough of my bandannas have been used as zambonis that lending any of them out to people is kind of evil.

Unless you're into that.

I really need to go back and mark that Best Answer. BUT I'M NOT GOING TO UNLESS YOU COME TO THE MEETUP (evil laugh)

But...but...how will I win the internet if you don't?

I probably won't be there (boyfriend just got back from a trip last night and I want to have some quality time--I'll ask him if he's down for pizza).

Yay for drawing valentines! I'll show you mine if you show me yours. I think he's got all his in a drawer somewhere.
posted by phunniemee at 10:45 AM on October 20, 2010

I'm planning to come (and am leaving work early so as not to miss too much fun -- what's with these early mid-week meet-up start times?), but I don't own any purple articles of clothing or accessories. I'm wearing two shades of blue and a red necklace though, so I think it averages out to nearly purple.

And I'm going to feel really self conscious ever wearing a bandanna around any of you ever again.

Oh, and fair warning to everyone: I am absolutely terrible with names and faces and I am terrified of people still and I was only at one meetup once and it was infinity years ago so I make a solemn pledge right now that when I get there I will not remember who anyone is.

We are going to work out ahead of time that we're all going to give you the wrong names, and switch them every 13 minutes.
posted by adamdschneider at 2:54 PM on October 20, 2010

If you do it right, it'll coincide with my getting everyone's name wrong and match things up perfectly.

Bizarro-Windigo is totally sitting across the aisle from me on the train. I would take a picture, but that's not really a cool thing to do. Plus it might cause a paradox if I do and show it to real-Windigo. So I won't.

Shakes I was just going to say the same thing. The difference is especially striking when you're scrolling on a phone, and it's the difference between 3 seconds of scrolling versus 3 minutes.

Idly observed:

-IRL threads close one month after the date of the meetup.
-A little testing suggests that meetups can be scheduled up to 364 days in advance.
-This opens the way for thread lifes approaching thirteen months.

TOO MUCH FUN.

Spraking of too much fun, my personal highlights last night's adventures which some of you may have missed:

-Cody at The Boiler Room buying us an immense tray of shots

-Molly buying me a Dark and Stormy and me promptly spilling it

-Paul McGee buying me a Dark and Stormy while discussing big brown jiggling butts with me (he had recommended the music video for Gucci Mane's Making Love to The Money to me, which takes place in a strip club).

-Me promptly spilling the second Dark and Stormy....down my gullet

-Eamon playing pool against some random dude in the Two Way aka The Diviest Dive that Ever Dived

-This paraphrased conversation between me and some dude hitting on me in the Two Way:

"Here's my card. If I'm still cute when you're not shitfaced, call me."

"I'm actually sober."

"WHO COMES TO TWO WAY SOBER?!?"

-That dude actually emailing me today (Really? No good relationship ever came out of The Two Way)

-Adam and Molly trying to get my QR wheel back on, drunk

-Me deciding the best way to make sure it was really on there right was to drunkenly ride around the block

-Me crashing into a PARKED CAR
posted by Juliet Banana at 12:43 PM on October 21, 2010

I didn't go to the strip club because I wanted to be home by midnight, so instead I went and shot pool 'til 2am.

I make bad choices.

I was so hungover I cranked one out in the shitter at work, thinking that if nothing else made me feel better, an orgasm would.

I was right. And I was in a good mood and really nice to people all day, which is actually hilarious because I'm usually a raw salty cunt.
