Hi ChiMeFites:
Do you like movies? Do you like beer? I have a deal for you. You can view the Facebook invite here, or read on.
Hello Friends:
In 1999, Jim Luning and I set out on a journey down Route 66, and ended up producing a pretty fine book, that many of you receiving this might own.
In spring 2009, Jim and I were talking, and realized the tenth anniversary of our trip was soon approaching, so we decided to do it again. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
...
This time, instead of still cameras, Jim came loaded for bear with HD video equipment, and we've produced a documentary that with a little luck and a few strategically placed bribes, will be making the rounds of some film festivals in the near future.
We've rented out the Portage Theater in Chicago, a beautifully restored old movie palace on the northwest side.We will be charging $2.00 admission, roughly the cost of a ticket in 1966.
It's a good neighborhood with plenty of street parking, easy to get to, whether you are in the city or hopping off the interstate. As an added incentive, THEY SERVE ALCOHOL! For more info, check out www.portagetheater.org.
I know for some of you, this might mean a bit of a drive. I have heard of at least one load of folks driving in from Ann Arbor, and one from the Illinois Valley downstate, so if you are closer than 2 hours away we sure hope to see you, as it would mean a lot to both Jim and me.
Please pass this along to any FB friends you have that might be willing to come, and encourage them to do the same.
If you would like to see the official trailer for the film, here you go...

If you would like to see some of the videos we sent out from the road when we were traveling Route 66, there are six or seven segments here...

We really hope you will put this on your calendars, and bring a friend or ten.
For those of you who have known Jim and me since we first started working together, you know this is going to be fun. For those of you who are just joining us, bring clean underwear and bail money
All our best, and MeMail me if you need any additional info.

Angel is still there, and still hangs out at the barber shop. Sadly, Juan passed a couple of years ago.

"Hey, do you realize this is the 66th anniversary?" he said as he filled out my card and rang up the t-shirt. "You think I ended up in this town on a random jaunt?" I replied. Then I went next door to the Snow Cap restaurant where his brother Juan did 20 minutes of slapstick gags while serving up a burger, fries and shake. Stayed overnight in Seligman and kicked around town taking photos the next day, including what turned out to be the old Delgadillo brothers' saloon/pool hall when I matched it up with the photo in that Mother Road book by Michael Wallis that I bought after I got back.
Seeing you driving on the mountain switchbacks out of Oatman takes me back. Photo. Congratulations on getting that done. I'll shut up now.
