I'll note for clarity that the maximum limit for this meetup is ten (10) people. adamdschneider, Juliet Banana, plus 8 more. There are still three spots!

I will snarfle up the last 2 spots for myself & longtime lurker if they're still open!

It'll be great to see you guys again!

One week from yesterday! I am going to start eating nothing but Shredded Wheat and psyllium husk date smoothies from now on just to make some room.

Mmm mmm fried chicken + all the trimmins'! I do declare, a Southern belle's dream come true! I do hope there'll be some sweet tea.

MT, you better be wearing a dress made out out of curtains-excuse me, portieres-when you show up. Also, be prepared for me to try to sucker you and Betty Botter into going bowling/shooting pool this weekend. If you don't want to end up agreeing to embarrass yourself in a dive bar full of pool sharks you might want to watch your punch bowl intake, ladies.

In other news, why did I not realize that this was the third Thursday of the month when we were doing the planning? I have to miss The Chainlink bar night for this, and that makes me sad. However, once I learn how to play pool in a manner that isn't completely humiliating I suppose I can go to Gold Star and pick up bike messengers, so my bike keebler fetish will be satisfied in the end.

I'm not sure they're going to care that much about your pool game.
posted by adamdschneider at 10:29 AM on August 17, 2010

Oh, you should have realized by now that as long as I've had a drink, I'm generally up for embarrassing myself in a myriad of ways.

Also: stay crappy at pool if you're trying to pick up dudes that way. They like to try to "help" you with your game. From behind.

Hilarity: I already have had a bike keebler friend offer to give me pool lessons likely for the pervy reasons you illustrate. Who knew complete ineptitude could get you laid?

Ok, our reservations are official. Finally.

OK, I have terrible math skillz, but I think it's going to come to $35 a head. Follow along and feel free to double check me, here.

$220 (ten $22 chicken dinners) plus
$56 (punch bowl) plus
$26.91 (9.75% tax, I think that's the correct rate) equals

$302.91

add in a $45.44 15% tip and we're at

$348.35

Divide by 10, and it's $34.84 a person, which I'm going to go ahead and round up to $35, more if you're a generous tipper. I am not going to start an argument about tipping on Metafilter, I know better than that.

TL;DR Your dinner and drinks will come to $35 even; our server's life will be easier if you bring it in cash.

They didn't say one way or the other, but sometimes for large parties restaurants add in the gratuity for you, often using 18% as the rate. I would advise bringing $40 cash (with some smaller bills if possible) and preparing to be pleasantly surprised. This overplanning is likely a result of the only useful thing I retain from my time in the Boy Scouts: Be Prepared.

I am so prepared.

And having a heck of a bad week. Can fried chicken turn a frown upside down?

Fried chicken, like tacos, has the amazing power to make everything better! And I'm sure the punch won't hurt.

If you kids go out afterward, page me. I've got a bunch of chores to do, but they should be wrapped up by 8ish.

T minus 60ish minutes and counting!

I might be a few minutes late; it kind of depends whether the little old blue hair who likes to trade out her fistful of pennies for dollars comes in at 5:55pm like she has every night the past week.

I might also be a few minutes early, if no customers come in to fuck up my balanced drawer and a cute keebler butt with a U-lock tucked in the back pocket of their worn cut-offs lures me up Milwaukee's bike lane like a carrot on a stick.

Readery, you left your phone on the table. We have entrusted it to stand-up dude Luke. You can get in touch with him by Memail.

Oh, yes.

Eh, there's better chicken.

As a concept, the idea of a group rate for giant platters of chicken is interesting (the giant platters of chicken are an impressive sight). There was a lot of chicken but not as good as say, White Fence Farm or The Chicken Basket. Skin was not crumbly enough and seasonings too bland.

Good sides and good company, though.

It was pretty fucking delicious and I'm glad we did it. Would I do it again? Maybe not. It is an experience that is best left unique and special, occupying a special place in my heart.

Also, for $35 I can get incredibly shitty and eat a fuckton of tacos at Big Star, or get three buckets of PBR at Oasis with a bit left over for a tip, or pay for an entire fancy ass meal for two at Chilam Balam excluding tax/tip and BYOB pack of Negro Modelo.
posted by Juliet Banana at 6:16 AM on August 20, 2010

Yes, I am glad we did it, but I would be unlikely to do it again. There are plenty of other experiences to be had in the city, so we won't be at wits' end for auxiliary meetups in the future, I'm sure.
