It's been way too long and I'm craving tiny beers. I'm in.

It feels like it's been an eon since the last Goat meetup I've been to.

Your friendly neighborhood There is No Chicago Cabal? Bwah?
posted by SpiffyRob at 7:49 AM on February 23, 2011

Woo! Barring some bizarre scheduling disaster, I'll be there.

Your friendly neighborhood There is No Chicago Cabal? Bwah?

She's probably pronouncing it TINCC.
posted by adamdschneider at 8:10 AM on February 23, 2011

Er, tink. Stupid phone calls.
posted by adamdschneider at 8:10 AM on February 23, 2011

Spiffy, you remain dead to me, so all I hear is mr. dschneider, imitating windchimes: tink tink tinkatinka tink
posted by crush-onastick at 8:14 AM on February 23, 2011

Yeah, okay, convinced. I'll come by after class.
posted by lholladay at 11:53 AM on February 23, 2011

I said yes, but clearly that'll be a lie.
posted by eamondaly at 12:04 PM on February 23, 2011

*sigh*

Is the monthly meet-up on the 2nd of every month, or the first Wednesday of every month?

Just when I'm thinking I'd like to go, it's on the one night I have classes.
posted by tzikeh at 12:46 PM on February 23, 2011

First Wednesday, same as in town.

And Crush can pronounce it however she damn well pleases. Still makes no sense. Besides, "tink" was the family word for "urine" and "urinate" growing up, and I don't want any of that in my tiny beers, no matter how friendly.

Crush, we haven't been to a meetup together in so long, I can't say I'm surprised I remain dead to you. Perhaps this will be the meetup that rectifies this.

And we're already up to 17 planning to attend. Man, we're totally the best MeFi city.
posted by SpiffyRob at 1:11 PM on February 23, 2011

Yeah, the meetups just get bigger and bigger.
posted by Windigo at 1:19 PM on February 23, 2011

Seventeen! Well I'll be. The Goat can hardly contain our multitudes.

How long do you guys generally stay there? I'm in class til 7 and it's way up on the Northwest side....
posted by tzikeh at 9:08 PM on February 23, 2011

I usually leave pretty early, 10ish, but I am old and not much of a carouser.
posted by crush-onastick at 6:48 AM on February 24, 2011

With carousing it is not about the quantity but the quality. although quantity does figure in more than other calculations in re: quantity v. quality.

In other words there is a sweet spot and we achieve it regularly.
posted by readery at 7:33 AM on February 24, 2011

Zaximus - will you be PLUS ONE?
posted by bibliogrrl at 8:36 AM on February 24, 2011

I should be able to make this on my way home from work, but y'all know I'm prone to flaking on these by now.
posted by booknerd at 8:39 AM on February 24, 2011

I can't think of any reasonable-sounding excuses right now, so.
posted by shakespeherian at 10:56 AM on February 24, 2011

And my lady might come too! Flyin' in like Chuck Yeager and shit!
posted by SpiffyRob at 11:24 AM on February 24, 2011

Fuck yes. Kick the tires and light the fires.
posted by adamdschneider at 11:56 AM on February 24, 2011

bibliogrrl, you're right! I finally get to check the +1 box for one of these!

Yay!
posted by Windigo at 11:45 AM on February 25, 2011

Look at all those +1s!

(Mine is just because Mark is super lazy and hasn't logged into Mefi in like a year. We can totally make fun of him and he'd never know as he never reads a Goat thread)
posted by Windigo at 11:46 AM on February 25, 2011

So, Spiff, who you bringing to the meetup as your +1? Clearly not Mrs.Spiffy.
posted by adamdschneider at 12:07 PM on February 25, 2011

I'd forgotten to circle back and remove it after giving her the heads up that she should RSVP herself. She also wanted to post some witty rejoinder to the Chuck Yeager comment, but balked under the pressure.

I'm trying to draw her into posting something, but keep it on the dl, because she's right next to me right now.

posted by SpiffyRob at 7:52 AM on February 26, 2011

Whoa hey meetup thread. This is shaping up to be pretty epic.
posted by evisceratordeath at 8:48 AM on February 26, 2011

Man, I kind of hope everyone shows up. Thirty four people would be the biggest meetup since cortex.
posted by adamdschneider at 8:51 AM on February 28, 2011

This is why I don't know how we'll ever be able to make a mid-month pizza meetup happen again.

Also why I don't know if I will reschedule a Jaws viewing party. Our apartment ain't THAT big.
posted by Windigo at 9:16 AM on February 28, 2011

We should do a bacon bomb meetup at paddy long's. but it only feeds 6-8, so we'd have to order 4 of them. of course, the way my day is going is totally a go-straight-to-whiskey-do-not-pass-go sort of day.
posted by crush-onastick at 9:53 AM on February 28, 2011 [1 favorite]

I would eat the hell out of that. If you post it, I will come.
posted by adamdschneider at 12:10 PM on February 28, 2011

Well, I haven't done the March calendar yet. There might be wiggle room (or, room for bacon) toward the end of it.
posted by crush-onastick at 1:54 PM on February 28, 2011

Room for bacon = sizzle room.
posted by SpiffyRob at 7:01 AM on March 1, 2011

sizzle room comes with extra commas!

As always, Mark & I shall be there early.
posted by Windigo at 7:06 AM on March 2, 2011

The lady (still holding strong to her not-posting-in-this-thread position) may be there before me, as she'll be coming straight from work while I will be stopping off at home first. I'll be there by seven.
posted by SpiffyRob at 7:52 AM on March 2, 2011

As always, I will not be there early.

I will, however, have my new lady with me.
posted by adamdschneider at 8:24 AM on March 2, 2011

i work from home on Wednesdays. Given all the ladies who will be in attendance, I should probably bathe before I head over.

I was hoping "The Baroness Schrader" then maybe you could eventually get some super title like "Prime Henchman to Baroness Schrader", eventually upgraded to something less minion-y and more co-conspiratorial.
posted by crush-onastick at 10:20 AM on March 2, 2011

I sadly will not be able to make it as I have had a quick trip to Kalamazoo to eat at a Lord of the Rings themed pizza place with Taco's parents.
posted by betty botter at 11:04 AM on March 2, 2011

Uh, the end of that sentence was supposed to say "foisted upon me."
posted by betty botter at 11:15 AM on March 2, 2011

You mean more Lord of the Rings themed than the creepy Gandalf on the wall of the men's room at Pequod's?

*Google search*

This one?

(yes, I'm sure it is...though it would be weird if there was a restaurant in Kalamazoo that was MORE LOTR themed... like The Hobbit House in Manilla)

The fact that Bilbo's Pizza has a VIP club makes me happier than it should.
posted by Windigo at 11:48 AM on March 2, 2011

We could sit in the VIP room at the Goat if that would make us feel special.

I'll be there early (5:00 on the dot) so I can stake out tables. I'll be knitting or iPad-ing.
posted by misskaz at 12:11 PM on March 2, 2011

Even if none of the maybes show up (Iridic a maybe? Noooooo!), I think we'll overflow the VIP room easily.
posted by adamdschneider at 12:23 PM on March 2, 2011

Good point.

I want tiny beers now. Anyone want to skip out of work this afternoon and go early? (Kidding. Maybe.)
posted by misskaz at 12:24 PM on March 2, 2011

misskaz, I probably wouldn't be missed if I slipped out, but I have some drudgery to take care of. I'll be there right around 5 though.
posted by evisceratordeath at 12:52 PM on March 2, 2011

I'll be there around 7:30, if the Goat isn't stuffed to capacity by then.
posted by hydrophonic at 12:55 PM on March 2, 2011

Sorry, chums: I have to bow out. Have a hell of a lot of fun!
posted by Iridic at 1:45 PM on March 2, 2011

Oh, misskaz will be there early? Fuck it, I'm leaving now. I need some tiny beers to help me with this all-day hangover hump.

Yes, that pizza place. I'm in Michigan (near Benton Harbor) right now. Pics to follow, I promise.

Yay! I'm gonna go.

I'm going to start walking over over there now. I will show up in however long it takes to walk from OTC unless I get impatient.

It would be nice if there were a way to turn the RSVPs into an "actually attended" list.
posted by crush-onastick at 9:09 AM on March 3, 2011

Well, you promoted and facilitated and shined your light upon the karaoke. I think that's sort of what patron saints do.
posted by crush-onastick at 9:09 AM on March 3, 2011

I failed to convert you and Adam to The Way, however. So.

Turns out, I get stage fright when I'm not drunk and attempt karaoke. I muddled through, but we must never let that happen again. (Except my head appreciates not being hungover today. Such a dilemma.)

I'm kinda an karaoatheist. And considering what you did for the nice Bong People and your retelling of said miracle, it looks like I'll never see the light.

Great, great, great to see everybody last night. Sorry I very rudely took off without saying any proper goodbyes -- I had a false alarm family emergency involving telephones - both literally (I was told Andy's was stolen) and the metaphorical game (based on breathless messages, I thought Andy had been jumped/robbed when his phone had actually been accidentally taken by a drunk at the event he was working)

What I'm saying here is, not to sound to much like AskMetafilter, but in relationships COMMUNICATION IS KEY.
