We haven't had an auxiliary Pequod's meetup in *ages*

Tue October 27 at 6:00 PM, Pequod's Pizza
2207 N Clybourn Ave, Chicago, IL, USA (Map & Directions)
You heard me. Next month marks the 5.5 year anniversary of the epic pizza that ate chicago thread and since pizza is the traditional 5.5 year anniversary gift, it seems like reason enough to celebrate. We'll pour out a slice for adamdschneider and spiffy who I'm sure will be there in spirit.
Somebody else pick a day, please, I don't like making decisions for people.

I propose Thursday, October 22nd.

Oh, man! I have plans that Thursday.

I just threw that out there (sort of) randomly and am flexible to most other days too.

There's an out-of-towner proposal for the 14/15/16 but that's a not-great week for me.
posted by crush-onastick at 3:52 PM on September 18, 2015

Later in the month is better for me! I think there's a good chance I'll be traveling for work around 10/18 and I don't have the details yet. I would guess any day on or after the 22nd would work for me.
posted by jessypie at 7:53 PM on September 18, 2015

I'll be out of town October 15 - 26 but I won't be mad if you planned something then, despite my zeal for Pequod's.
posted by deathpanels at 6:35 AM on September 19, 2015

...I have never been to Pequod's. Clearly, this must be corrected.

10/28 is a girl scout day, what about the 29th?
posted by phunniemee at 4:12 PM on September 20, 2015

10/29 is spouse's birthday, so it's out for me. But if it's the best for everyone else, that's the way it goes.

Then we all come out en masse and sing happy birthday for 23 minutes straight

It's possible he'll return as Bathroom Gandalf the White when we need him most.

I keep thinking this is Tuesday but it's NEXT Tuesday, Which is good, as I don't have a birthday plan for Spouse, yet.

Also: If anyone sees kaz: I was mean to her in a dream and I want to apologize.

Fun fact:

The lesser known Moby-Dick sequel, Ahab's Revenge: For Real This Time, ends with his new ship, Pequod II, being dashed against the rocks after its crew falls under the spell of sirens singing the Bagel Bites song (which is where they got it for the commercial) after Herman Melville spent three chapters anachronistically describing the difference between cooking foods in a toaster oven versus the microwave.

That's where they got the name for the restaurant.

I loved spending time with all of you as I always do, but ordering pizzas ahead of time and then having intro pizzas ordered in advance, appetizers, and final pizzas is pretty much how I want to do Pequod's meetups from here on out.

Mike, do you know how long I've been half-planning a Burt's Place meetup? That you have to order ahead of time has been my main hang-up.

Boooo! I'm so sorry hydrophonic (and jessypie and me and everyone else who wanted to do this) because I do know that it's something you've wanted to do forever.

"Never wait for a perfect moment to have your pizza party."

This is a lesson from the campaign platform for your new candidate for pizza advocate, MCMikeNamara.

(I actually didn't imagine Pizza Advocate being an elected position, but one that was appointed so I'm really undercutting my whole worldview just to make a joke.)
posted by MCMikeNamara at 1:39 PM on October 29, 2015 [3 favorites]

All the best "I accept this office" jokes are based on being elected quotes, which is why I went with that.

posted by hydrophonic at 1:03 PM on October 30, 2015

I am glad to have gone to Burt's to say that I went, but you're really not missing much. It was quite similar to Pequod's (as it should be, given the history.)

Go to the Morton Grove Pequod's and pretend it's Burt's. It's cleaner, but still really underwhelming from a decor perspective (nary a wizard to be found.)

We went to Burt's a couple of years ago for my wife's birthday. We really loved it, but we have a soft spot for idiosyncratic proprietors.
