Ooooh, I would likely be into this. I <3 Jurassic Park.

The 13th/14th is no-go for me since I will likely be out of state.
December 20/21 would work.

Anything before 13th is out, 14th and after are all okay.

Any of those dates work for me.

The 20/21 weekend is fine by me (as is 27/28, I'll be around). Yay dinosaurs!

21st doesn't work for me as I am planning my holiday shindig that day! (yes, you will all be invited for the herring and aquavit fest.)

Well, so far it sounds like Saturday Dec 20th is the only not-a-problem-for-anyone date, so unless we get a storm of other folks reporting in that it's specifically bad for them that's probably what the plan will be.
posted by cortex at 2:52 PM on November 30, 2014

I think any of those dates are good for us.

Suddenly the 21st doesn't work for me because there's a herring and aquavit fest I need to go to.

The 20th will work for me depending on when the new couch arrives.

mimo: The 20th will work for me depending on when the new couch arrives.

You're going to bring a couch?

You're going to bring a couch?

I'm going to need somewhere to sit.
posted by mimo at 2:15 PM on December 1, 2014

I think your couch is too young to properly appreciate Jurassic Park.
posted by Secretariat at 9:43 PM on December 1, 2014 [1 favorite]

My couch may be young, but it is deep (46" to be exact).

Any preference between the 20th and the 27/28th? Sounds like the 20th works for most people, but the 27th/28th would avoid back to back meetups. Then again, I'm not sure back to back meetups is a problem.
posted by Secretariat at 8:54 AM on December 2, 2014

Depends on how much time people need to recover...

I think the 20th would be better for us. We might not be back from our holiday travels by the 27th/28th.

Alright, we've set this for Saturday the 20th! I set the start time as 6pm, with the expectation that we'd start watching more like 7; does that make sense for folks or would it be better to nudge it a little one way or the other?
posted by cortex at 9:32 AM on December 6, 2014

Should we bring dinner-type food? Munchie snacks ...?
posted by Greg_Ace at 12:50 PM on December 6, 2014

hmm...trying to think of themed snacks. not feeling creative and coming up with much; pretty much just leafy greens and raw meat. maybe not.

Food: We were thinking of providing some Hawaiian BBQ, if that sounds good. If there's enough interest we could get some catering trays of meat or buy stuff by the pound. My favorites are the kaluha pig and the macaroni salad, and cortex likes the tri tip, but everything we've had is good. Downside: it's all meat. Some of the sides have no meat, but there is no satisfying vegetarian meal option, if that's a problem for anyone.
posted by Secretariat at 10:25 AM on December 10, 2014

Looks like they've got some veggie/carb sides listed on their "catering" menu. I'd be willing to chip in, say, 8-10 bucks toward a selection of trays from there (and help pick them up too, if necessary).

I like that place, too. I'll pony up for catering of meat, meat, meat.
posted by janell at 11:00 AM on December 12, 2014

I am also in support of BBQ and suchlike.
posted by mimo at 9:01 AM on December 15, 2014

Yep, sounds good.

Ok, BBQ is a go, we'll have 4 pounds of meat, rice, BBQ and teriyaki sauce, and some quantity of slaw, macaroni salad, and cowboy beans. If anyone wants to bring a beverage or a dessert or whatever else, that's cool- and if you don't, that's cool too. I'm thinking we'll probably have plenty of food. It's likely I'll bake some ginger shortbread cookies too.

We also have located a copy of the movie "Jurassic Park".

That does seem like a significant bit of preparation.
posted by Greg_Ace at 8:14 PM on December 17, 2014

I dunno, I'm pretty sure at least cortex and I could re-enact a significant portion of the movie.
posted by curious nu at 8:47 PM on December 17, 2014

And will possibly do so prior to the screening, if I start drinking early.

Unless one of you has display frills like the little critter that ate Wayne Knight, I ain't interested.
