I'm around! Dinner sounds great. Will you be in Harvard Square?

There is a red line that could get me to Harvard Square.

I should note: somewhere with vegetarian options would be best for me.

If the weather's decent, there's the food truck/picnic option. That would have to be planned on the Sunday or Monday preceeding August 9, but I see that, for example Taco Party serves dinners. I think Roxy does as well? On that theme but indoors sit-down, there's Clover's Food Lab in Cambridge, though I see from their web site that you've had some sort of salmonella outbreak in the city, and they are temporarily closed... so that's not super promising sounding.

I think I could do this! Anywhere on the Red Line is good for me; there are a lot of vegetarian-friendly places in Davis Square.

Clover is opening again on Wednesday and has done everything in their power to avoid future outbreaks - including voluntarily closing for 10 days and taking out loans so they could still pay employees during that time. They've handled the outbreak as well as any one possibly could.

(They've blogged extensively about the outbreak while closed.)

I might be able to make it!

I think I can make this. If you're thinking Davis, there's always Flatbread as an option - it's going to be a madhouse on a Friday evening, but they might do reservations if we can nail down a number. Plenty of veggie pizza options and candlepin bowling! And beer!

And on actually looking at their website, I see that they do bowling reservations for 8 or more people if that's of interest to anyone. Not sure if they do dining reservations.

Funny I never see any cats in Arlington, I think the coyotes get them, oh wait, all nice kitties stay indoors. Arlington itself is getting to be quite the foodie destination.

(gotta admit a quiet amusement about Clover, they had such a crunchy good for you presentation, I do like their fries)

I like backseatpilot's idea of Flatbread (+ bowling) if we can avoid a crazy wait.

Erm, bowling's fun and all, but last Boston meetup I went to I pretty much couldn't hear any of the conversation, so the "crowded" description worries me. We could eat at Clover or something, and then go bowling?
posted by eviemath at 11:14 AM on July 24, 2013

If we decide on bowling but don't want to eat there, it might make sense to keep it in the neighborhood? Cafe Barada reopened a few weeks ago, and it's two blocks away and vegetarian-friendly. I haven't been yet and have no idea if the food's good or if it's a good place for large groups. I'm open to just about anything, though.

I'm terrible at bowling, but I'll try my best to at least make it the goofy fun kind of terrible instead of the cranky self-conscious kind.

There is also bowling some nights of the week in Ball Square. There is a reasonable if unexciting Tibetan/Indian restaurant there (Yak and Yeti) as well as a popular breakfast place I have never been to for dinner (Sound Bites). It's a 10-15 minute walk from the T, but if bowling is available on Friday it would be much less crowded there than in Davis.

(I can verify availablity of bowling this evening. Maybe this has gotten off track though?)

Does it have to be the 9th? I'm visiting for a week and leaving on the 9th ...
posted by librarina at 5:34 PM on July 24, 2013

Yes, I'm only passing through. That's unfortunate timing!
posted by eviemath at 8:37 PM on July 24, 2013

Nope, I can't read a calendar. I leave on the Friday before that, the 2nd. Still sorry to miss you!

Cafe Barada looks quite good to me. Any objections? 6:00ish perhaps?
posted by eviemath at 5:18 PM on July 26, 2013

I think I can make that. Just as a note to everyone, they are cash only so come prepared.
posted by backseatpilot at 4:45 AM on July 27, 2013

I would love to, but, sadly, am required elsewhere.

I can probably make this, though I'll be late. I have to come in from the northern suburbs.
posted by Rustic Etruscan at 3:47 PM on August 1, 2013

Oof, I might end up being late for this, since my work gets crazy busy on some Fridays. But I will do my dangedest to get there on time.
posted by Metroid Baby at 6:23 PM on August 1, 2013

We could make it 7:00?

Do those of you I met last time I was around remember what I look like? I'm going to try very hard to get my friend I'll be visiting (not my cat - sorry, my cat is adorable, but they probably wouldn't serve him at the restaurant) to join as well, so I may be sitting with random other person. But maybe not.

I think I remember. I will wear a tie again if it will help.
posted by backseatpilot at 5:45 AM on August 2, 2013

Note - I don't know where in Arlington you're staying, but if it's near Mass Ave you'll want to take the 77 bus instead of T'ing to Davis and walking (that schedule is a little confusing, but it runs about every 10-15 minutes).
posted by maryr at 9:19 AM on August 2, 2013

I will be there closer to 7pm.
posted by pxe2000 at 6:15 AM on August 8, 2013

7 is great. I also think I remember what you look like.

I just talked to Andi about this, and I think we'll be there as well.

Does anyone know of a good place to park in that area? I'm fine with paid lots: Whatever the weather, it's Friday, so it'll be packed.
posted by Rustic Etruscan at 5:17 AM on August 9, 2013

I think parking on Mass Ave. around there is not packed to the gills, even on Friday, although it is metered, so you have to go back out there every so often.

Also, I've got a couple visitor parking permits. If anyone wants to use them, feel free to park on a nearby residential street and text me, and I'll bring one to you. (Memail me for my number.)
posted by ignignokt at 6:18 AM on August 9, 2013

A little farther up Mass Ave. there are no parking meters - you have to park up by Jack's Gas, but it's only a five minute walk from there to the restaurant.

Further how-to-recognize-me update. I will be wearing my Schroedinger's cat t-shirt, though it may be under a jacket. I might or might not be wearing a bandana. My plan is to get there for 6:30 and grab a table/do any waiting around necessary before the rest of you arrive any time between then and 7ish.

My Friday afternoon is seeming significantly less busy than expected, so I may join y'all.
