i probably can't be there until 7 at the earliest, but that's ok unless this is just a quick drink after work we're talking about.

I'm in, depending on the date. Thursday the 6th would be ideal for me, but other days are probably do-able.

I would love to join, but the 5th won't work for me. Like ubiquity, 7 am is about the earliest I can arrive.

I'm a no-go for Wednesdays; I'm teaching those evenings through the 12th. Have one of SC's delightful veggie burgers for me.

So it looks like the 12th is shaping up to be a good date. I am also a likely later arrival -- between 6:30 and 7:00. Is 7:00 a reasonable start time, or would folks like to kick things off earlier?

I will be coming home from a stressful job interview on the 12th, so I would love to drink beers with some MeFites.

I've been meaning to check out the Science Club, and any day of the week works for me. I'm also a 'burb-worker, city-resident, so 6:30 to 7 is as early as I can start.

Shall we officially promote this to "upcoming" for the 12th around 6:30-7:00 at Science Club?

Sorry, peeedro. :-( Maybe folks would be up for a late December/early January Friday or Saturday meetup? I would be, anyway!

That's cool, I don't want to be the spoilsport since the 12th works for everyone else.
I'll put my vote in now for a post-New Years/pre-inauguration meetup to follow this one.

I am in for the 12th!
Also, since I'm already commenting, has Penn Social been brought up as a potential meetup location? It's pretty spacious and centrally located (Gallery Place).

Yay! I can make it. How do we recognize each other? Will there be a sign? The only time I've been to a meet up, it was at a MeFite's house, and cortex was there (so, hey, I knew I was in the right place :) ).

I think we should agree on the meeting place a day or two before (so basically back room or upstairs). There should be a sign, though I hope the same girl shows up with the MeFi shirt too.

Science club will likely stake out a small place for you. If it's under 10 folks then the crow's nest at the very top will handle you just fine. We have WLDC meets there sometimes and just email them to ask if we can reserve the space.

I'll regretfully be missing this one, though normally I prefer going out on weeknights. I have to wake up super early for a long day Thursday helping out a homeless friend of mine who recently broke his leg and needs a hand getting some stuff sorted before moving to live with family in the midwest.

I have not heard back from Science Club about space yet, but I will follow-up this evening.

As requested, here's my black bean burger recipe/method.
1 can black beans (Goya FTW)
1 egg (can omit to make vegan)
seasonings
plain bread crumbs (in a can)
Drain and rinse a can of black beans in a colander. Dump them in a big bowl and add various seasonings. 2 tsp of cumin and maybe 1 tsp of chili powder is a good start. A bit of onion, frozen corn and cilantro are good too. Make sure any chunky-additions are smallish chunks or you'll wreck your structural integrity. You likely won't need salt.
Crack an egg in the bowl and mash everything together with a potato masher. You'll have something fairly soupy. Take your can of bread crumbs and shake some in. Stir a bit, and add more crumbs as needed until you get something you can easily squeeze into a firm ball. (If you're a measuring type, try 1/4 cup, up to 2/3c)
Divide it into 4 balls, and smoosh into patties. Put a bit of water on your hands to make this go easier. Fry up in a non stick pan. You'll want to cook these on a lower temp than beef burgers, and be sure to start them with a bit of oil. Flip them gently.
I suggest a whole wheat bun, pepper jack cheese, slices of avocado, and chipotle mayo to do up your burger.
