Who wants to get together in Our Fair City?
Mefites, in this season of holidays there is a lull between Thanksgiving and the late winter glut of thanking various deities for stuff. Let's put something in there!

Sounds like fun! I would be interested in heading along.

Wednesday nights are good for me. As far as trivia, we could always use help on Monday Nights at Tommy Doyle's when a Geeks Who Drink "thing" is called (i.e. MeFites win free beer), so I'd instead rather attend a meetup where people actually get to stretch out and converse.

I am a person who enjoys trivia. I would also enjoy an excuse to go to Inman and have myself some saag paneer.

Additionally, I should add that we will like get together for the roughly biweekly Harvard Sq Monday trivia on the 26th, but I mention that only so that you are aware it. I am almost always up for additional trivia.

Re: not_on_display's comment, I also enjoy just hanging out, so trivia is not required. Didn't mean to over-emphacize it.

I would come to an Inman Square meetup with or without trivia.

I enjoy getting to know new people's personalities, but trivia puts a barrier there by forcing you to focus on a different subject every few minutes. However, I would definitely enjoy the chance to meet more MeFites.

If I were to propose some sort of get-together, I think it would probably be something like having a few drinks at a bar, followed by a snowball fight, followed by a low-key dinner someplace inexpensive and casual. The drinking period gives people a chance to get to know each other and build alliances beforehand, and the dinner afterwards gives people a chance to unwind and make sure there are no hard feelings from that snowball that went right up someone's nose, etc.

Just a thought - and I only bring it up since you seemed to be soliciting suggestions. Generally speaking though, I'm usually up for anything.

Cool! So perhaps just a drinking session with maybe a dinner following? Does anyone have a night that is best or worst for them? With or without trivia Wednesday's are good for me. Could I suggest the 28th? Or maybe the 5th? I'll move this to proposed once we put a date, time and place on it. How does everyone feel about The Druid in general (sans trivia)

I didn't mean to piss in the pool by suggesting a non-trivia meetup! I would definitely play trivia, but I think if you want a "meetup" (as opposed to a pwning-in-trivia) you'll get to actually meet interesting folks, and hear stories and talk about things other than "Famous Hairdon'ts"... like plates of beans etc etc.

(OOOO I am so using that as a theme!! Famous Hairdon'ts! I actually just started a gig as a pub-trivia writer for Geeks Who Drink.)

On preview, err yeah what you said. Teach me not to refresh a page for 10 hours. 11/28 or 12/5 are both fine for me.

what edit button?

Wednesdays are generally difficult for me as a regular thing but on an occasional basis I can definitely work around that.
posted by wolfdreams01 at 11:04 PM on November 10, 2012

I think this would be a one time event.
posted by FatRabbit at 11:23 PM on November 10, 2012

I'd be interested, and the 28th looks free. Never been to the Druid, & I'm a fan of most food.

The Druid has good food, and I like trivia and non-trivia.
posted by ignignokt at 8:15 PM on November 11, 2012

The Druid sounds fine to me.

As noted, I would be highly likely to join a dinner at Punjabi Dhaba either before or afterwards. We could take over the upstairs. Potentially. It's just the best Indian food in Boston is all I'm saying.

OK, that sounds even better, actually, if we had to choose. I've walked by a dozen times and smelled the good smells and never went in.

Sounds like the Druid (followed by Punjabi Dhaba) on the 28th works for people. I'll move to proposed!
posted by FatRabbit at 5:18 AM on November 12, 2012

I will put myself down as likely. I'm going to need an evening out after midterms and family coming over.

Finally, a meetup that I can come to - Mondays just don't work for me, ever. I'm happy with or without trivia, I like the Druid, I love Punjabi Dhaba, and I haven't been to Inman in ages. I'm in.

Dear Metafilter, I am sending an invoice for the price of one (1) keyboard to replace the one i drooled all over when I read the words Punjabi Dhaba. Thank you.

I have not gone out for Indian food since I moved back to Boston. I REALLY LIKE INDIAN FOOD. Looking forward to this!
posted by maryrussell at 3:58 PM on November 15, 2012

Question about time: are we all getting together at 8:30, and then heading to Punjabi Dhaba afterward? (Or is that before?) Regardless, I'm looking forward to it!

I would like to suggest that perhaps we meet for Indian food first? In fact, as discussed with the other maryr (maryr-ussell) at trivia last night, maybe we could meet at Punjabi Dhaba first at, say, 7:30 PM, and then head to the bar at 8:30?

Thoughts?
posted by maryr at 7:11 PM on November 27, 2012

(I for one will be coming directly from work and I'll be friggin' starving if I have to wait until after drinks for saag paneer.)
posted by maryr at 7:12 PM on November 27, 2012

I would actually prefer dinner before drinks, as I should get home on the early side. I'll be at PD at 7:30, most likely.

Dinner first sounds better to me, too. Fourthed!

Yup, food before drinks sounds good...will be at Punjabi Dhaba at 7:30. See you all there!
posted by maryrussell at 5:15 AM on November 28, 2012

I'm also in for PD @ 7:30. How will I recognize the rest of you? I'll be the tall bald guy with the goatee.

Looks like consensus changed, so I've changed the time and location of the event. Take Note!

wolfdreams01: "How will I recognize the rest of you?"

Yell out, "Who ordered the softcore taters!?"

Just found out about this...have fun y'all, hope to catch you next time. And sorry I haven't been back to Trivia - it conflicts with my Monday class this semester!

Man, I'd love to come, but my entertainment budget has bottomed out. Have fun, all.

OK, we're upstairs! maryr is downstairs looking out.
posted by ignignokt at 4:33 PM on November 28, 2012

I am trapped in an interminable meeting. Will someone please update when y'all move to the Druid, so I know where to go? Tyvm!
posted by maryrussell at 4:52 PM on November 28, 2012

Fyi - we decided to go to Bukowski's rather than the Druid. If there are any latecomers, meet us there.
posted by wolfdreams01 at 5:45 PM on November 28, 2012

OK, the Druid was packed, so we're over at Bukowski's down the street.
posted by ignignokt at 5:46 PM on November 28, 2012

Hey, that was fun! I could even actually hear everyone that spoke, for the most part!
posted by not_on_display at 10:10 PM on November 28, 2012

...and that room in the Punjabi Dhaba was perfect. We should sneak our own booze in there for a future meetup!
posted by not_on_display at 10:12 PM on November 28, 2012

Sorry I had to skip out early; it was nice to hang for awhile. Hope to see folks at the next meetup!

I'm sorry I missed you guys! I got caught up working and couldn't escape.
