How about a weekend brunch meetup with mimosas, bloody marys and great food either in SF or the east bay (bart accessible of course)?

This weekend? Could be done...

I could potentially do east bay, but can't spare the time to get to SF.
posted by fake at 12:08 AM on August 27, 2011

Can't do it this weekend, but definitely interested if it happens later.
posted by Lexica at 8:49 AM on August 27, 2011

Anyone ever been to the brunch at Medjool? I've been interested, but never made it in.
posted by jasper411 at 8:59 AM on August 27, 2011

I could potentially do this weekend (i.e. tomorrow) but next would be better.

I imagine we'd want to find a restaurant that takes reservations — brunch for a large group can be difficult to get without waiting an hour otherwise.
posted by spitefulcrow at 10:09 AM on August 27, 2011

I love brunch and I will carve out a place for it in my schedule. Just tell me when and where!
posted by chatongriffes at 10:10 AM on August 27, 2011

I'm so in if we do it next weekend.
posted by lore at 10:44 AM on August 27, 2011

why don't we do it next weekend since it's a bit late to rally for tomorrow?
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 10:52 AM on August 27, 2011

will not make it, have fun
posted by fake at 11:01 AM on August 27, 2011

Well, if anyone's interested, I wouldn't mind meeting up for drinks this evening.
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 11:12 AM on August 27, 2011

I'm in for brunch (as long as it's Sunday, either next week or this) and for drinks tonight.

My reading comprehension, let me show you it.

Awesome. Any bar suggestions for this evening? Maybe somewhere in Oakland that's bart friendly?
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 12:51 PM on August 27, 2011

I might show up, but I already have plans for later today, so don't schedule around me.
posted by madcaptenor at 12:53 PM on August 27, 2011

Ben and Nick's in Rockridge used to be a solid place; I haven't been there in ages. Same goes for Barclay's.

The Trappist is also pretty BART-accessible.

(NB: All of those places are mostly beer-focused.)
posted by asterix at 2:23 PM on August 27, 2011

This combines three of my favorite things: San Fran, Brunch, and Mefites! Keep me posted!
posted by sambosambo at 2:35 PM on August 27, 2011

Oh, shit. I mean Frisco. Sorry.
posted by sambosambo at 2:36 PM on August 27, 2011 [2 favorites]

Ben and Nick's has a full bar. Maybe there at 8ish?
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 2:47 PM on August 27, 2011

That should work. It's definitely got the potential for being crowded, but there are a bunch of other places in the neighborhood if it gets too bad.
posted by asterix at 3:00 PM on August 27, 2011

We're out of town next weekend, but around this evening, especially if you wanted to come to this side of the bay.
posted by gingerbeer at 3:21 PM on August 27, 2011

I am open to going to SF instead of Oakland. Asterix?

gingerbeer: If we do sf, do you have a spot in mind?
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 3:36 PM on August 27, 2011

Yeah, I'm game for SF.
posted by asterix at 3:51 PM on August 27, 2011

Anything near 16th St or 24th St BART that you guys like? Saturday night in the Mission tends to be crowded, is the only downside.

Dalva? Uptown? Mission Bar? We always end up at Frjtz because it's never crowded, but that is not the best reason to go there.
posted by gingerbeer at 4:37 PM on August 27, 2011

Dalva: the first bar I've ever been to that seemed completely uninterested in taking my money. (They were perfectly happy to serve me drinks, they just failed at the next bit.)

That said, I have no particular preference.
posted by asterix at 4:50 PM on August 27, 2011

asterix: whenever a bar or restaurant seems uninterested in taking my money, I'm always tempted to act like I'm walking out without paying, wondering if they'd notice.
posted by madcaptenor at 4:51 PM on August 27, 2011

So I totally missed the bar thing. Are we still on for brunch?
posted by spitefulcrow at 9:28 PM on August 28, 2011

GUYS I like brunch
posted by danny the boy at 11:40 AM on August 29, 2011

I would be up for brunch next weekend. On Saturday, or Sunday, or on super-bonus-extra-weekend-day Monday.
posted by madcaptenor at 1:20 PM on August 29, 2011

I can't do Sat but Sun and Mon are open. Any preferences?
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 8:36 PM on August 29, 2011

Sunday afternoonish (friends in town won't leave until noon)? I could use some brunch this week.
posted by casarkos at 12:21 AM on August 30, 2011

I like Sunday afternoon.
posted by madcaptenor at 9:15 AM on August 30, 2011

I'm still keeping an eye on this. Sunday afternoon could totally work for me. As long as there is a mimosa. Otherwise, I'm leaving.
posted by chatongriffes at 10:04 AM on August 30, 2011 [1 favorite]

I too like brunch. I could brunch on Sunday.
posted by grapesaresour at 10:56 AM on August 30, 2011

Where? I am not a frequent eater of brunch so I don't have a location in mind.
posted by madcaptenor at 11:19 AM on August 30, 2011

Sunday it is. Now to figure out where.

Axis cafe comes to mind (bottomless mimosas) but it is not BART friendly.

Other ideas? It would be great if we could make reservations by Fri.
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 11:26 AM on August 30, 2011

Brunch is awesome and so are mefites, so what could be more awesome than brunch with mefites? I'm free Sunday too. No clue where we should go though; I've never been to a brunch place in SF that isn't always crazy mobbed and a horrible meetup spot.
posted by zachlipton at 5:15 PM on August 30, 2011

In case anybody was wondering, Wikipedia says: "However, on Sunday anytime is acceptable for brunch.[citation needed]"
posted by madcaptenor at 5:40 PM on August 30, 2011 [1 favorite]

Axis is good. And there's the back patio if it's nice out. Unfortunately, I can't think of anything that's particularly bart friendly, that is going to be able to handle a big group on sunday? Foreign Cinema? I've personally been wanting to try Straw, but I think that place is tiny.
posted by danny the boy at 6:23 PM on August 30, 2011

Normally I would ask metafilter "where should we have brunch?" but that won't work here, will it?
posted by madcaptenor at 7:02 PM on August 30, 2011

There's always the stalwart standby options of Chow (Park if necessary though I prefer the Castro location) and the five Squat and Gobbles. Not so sure if they have mimosas though.

Barracuda might be of interest: bottomless mimosas (check), solid breakfast fare and sushi/Japanese lunch entrees, and able to handle a decent-sized group (I dropped in completely unannounced with seven people and they got us a table). It's not that BARTable though, being at 15th and Market; you'd need to transfer to Muni.
posted by spitefulcrow at 8:06 PM on August 30, 2011

Bah, the walk from 16th/Mission to 15th/Market is maybe 10 minutes.
posted by loriginedumonde at 11:42 PM on August 30, 2011 [3 favorites]

Barracuda might be of interest:

THEY HAVE LOCO MOCO. I am so there.
posted by asterix at 5:48 PM on August 31, 2011

Any objections to Barracuda 11ish on Sunday?
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 8:12 PM on August 31, 2011

None here. Let's make this thing official and get a headcount so we can make a reservation!
posted by spitefulcrow at 9:48 PM on August 31, 2011

You mean 11 AM, right? Sure, Wikipedia says anytime is acceptable for brunch, but some times are more acceptable than others.
posted by madcaptenor at 7:36 AM on September 1, 2011

It currently says Saturday at 11 PM...
posted by spitefulcrow at 7:51 AM on September 1, 2011

Or we could just make it midnight and get us some flapjacks.
posted by zachlipton at 8:28 AM on September 1, 2011

my bad. fixed the date and time.
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 8:45 AM on September 1, 2011

I have never had brunch at a Japanese place before... I think I'm in! (plus, I should probably go to a few non-whiskey meetups, right?)
posted by polexa at 1:35 PM on September 1, 2011

Mimosas in the Castro...if I can get up by 8, I'll be there.
posted by MikeKD at 4:08 PM on September 1, 2011

I won't be free until the afternoon, so keep me posted if anything happens afterwards.
posted by casarkos at 9:49 PM on September 1, 2011

I reserved a table for 12 but I will update that number tomorrow when they call me back to confirm.

casarkos: I will tweet you if we head elsewhere.
posted by babbyʼ); Drop table users; -- at 12:42 PM on September 2, 2011

12 seems good. (My "maybe" is, I don't know, probability 75% that I show up; I'll show up unless I still feel like crap, but I get over things pretty quickly.)
posted by madcaptenor at 1:16 PM on September 2, 2011

Hope the Boy and I aren't too late to get included in the headcount; we didn't see this till late last night, but would love to come.

That's a clever way to make sure no one gets seated before you arrive.

asterix, just tell them you're with the Butts party. As in Seymore. Yeah, I know his secret real name.

We are running about ten, fifteen minutes late but we are a'coming.

Also running late. I was on time but then BART foiled me. (and it's surprising how many Giants fans were on this train for a 1:00 game.)

Just got here. I'm the only customer at the moment.
