Dolores Park Easter Meetup

Sun April 24 at 11:59 AM, Dolores Park
Mission Dolores Park, 566 Dolores St, San Francisco, CA, USA (Map & Directions)
Anyone interested in meeting up on Easter for the annual Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Easter Bash?
I wondered if Bay Area mefites had any interest in meeting up at this annual big crazy queer party? Potluck picnic, people watching, mimosas in the sun? Crazy costumes? Hunky Jesus contest?

I don't see anything on our calendar, so I will say we are a definite maybe!

Also, putting this comment here will make it show up in my recent activity which will remind me to ask gingerbeer about it.

Not sure if I can make it but I came across this Airbnb listing that I thought would be most appropriate for a Dolores park meetup.

I'm a maybe. Also, ms. mayhem, I just connected the dots & realized we already know each other off the internet! Funny.

Unsure as well. Hindu Jesus was my fave two years ago.

Sounds like fun. I've been meaning to go to this for a few years...you can't go wrong with either Dolores Park or the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, really.

BYOBW will also be that day, and is conveniently located near our house, if people want to make a traveling meetup out of this.

Can't make it sadly, Sundays are out for the next year since I'm in massage school now.
posted by MillMan at 11:33 AM on April 13, 2011

Oh wait, it looks like I have easter off. So I'm a maybe.
posted by MillMan at 3:18 PM on April 13, 2011

I'm definitely interested. How would we find each other though? It's been kind of a mad house when I've gone before.
posted by grapesaresour at 3:47 PM on April 13, 2011

Given that this year's theme is tie dye, I can make a big tie dye flag. In blue, green and grey, perhaps?
posted by mollymayhem at 5:48 PM on April 13, 2011

If molly's making a tiedye flag then I am definitely in! Forget the drunken crazed people on big wheels.

I'll come if and only if I don't feel dead. I feel dead now, but this isn't for ten days. Maybe I'll be resurrected by then.

Hindu Jesus can hope you!

Also, eleven days. Clearly my death is impairing my mathological superpowers.
posted by madcaptenor at 9:27 PM on April 13, 2011

I may very well be there anyway. It's always pretty crazy but mucho fun!
posted by ooga_booga at 10:22 PM on April 13, 2011

Cool!

Madcaptenor, I'm pretty sure your best bet for resurrection involves being surrounded by Hunky Jesuses (Jesi?).
posted by grapesaresour at 12:01 PM on April 14, 2011

Pot luck-y things I will be bringing:

Champagne + OJ for mimosas
Some sort of savory eggy thing (quiche, probably. Likely with seasonal veg, potentially with pork.)
Milk chocolate liquor (like chocolate milk for grownups!)
Something with rabbit would be funny, but we'll see.

Looks like I'm on the hook for a tiedye mefite flag, too. Time to go back to my Humboldt roots!

(I might even get the time to re-work my costume from Bunny Jam 2004. I still have the hat, corset and tail.)
posted by mollymayhem at 1:57 PM on April 14, 2011

won't be around. :\

I'll look for you folks at BYOBW!

Ooh, gosh. Tempting. Maybe?
posted by zusty at 10:08 PM on April 17, 2011

It seems incredibly likely that I will be able to join you! There will be a double fete to celebrate a birthday/Easter, but I suspect that will be late afternoon, and therefore I will be able to show up with a plush bunny basket filled with various and sundry delights.

Does hanging out with hunky Jesus make up for skipping church?

mollymayhem, your costume is so fun!

Well, yeah - it's not like Jesus is gonna be in church when he could be at the park!

It appears that my parents, their next door neighbors, and the neighbors' adorable baby will be joining us. Which is awesome, as my parents are pretty damn cool.
posted by mollymayhem at 2:06 PM on April 20, 2011

My parents are on the other coast. But today assorted chocolate things arrived in the mail from them. Since even I can't eat infinite amounts of chocolate, I'll bring some on Sunday.

(Also, um, what happens if it rains? Because it might.)
posted by madcaptenor at 10:06 PM on April 20, 2011

Can't make it, will be rockin' in Southern California the eve of.
posted by zippy at 11:02 PM on April 20, 2011

In the event of rain, the sisters will announce an alternate location. Or so I've heard.

MeFiTieDye (say that 5 times fast!) flag is in the washer. We'll see, it's been 15 years since I've done any tiedye.
posted by mollymayhem at 2:47 PM on April 21, 2011

In the event of rain, it usually gets moved to the Eureka Valley Rec Center, which isn't nearly as much fun. Fortunately BYOBW is rain or shine!
posted by gingerbeer at 5:14 PM on April 21, 2011

What does the MeFi TieDye flag look like, now that it's done?
posted by needs more cowbell at 9:58 PM on April 23, 2011

I've made cookies and have a bottle of champagne, so unless there's a freaking downpour I'm coming.
And if there is a downpour I'll be having a pretty delicious day in.
posted by grapesaresour at 10:19 PM on April 23, 2011

Mefi tie dye flag is was intended to be Mefi blue and gold, but kind of ended up Ask green. It's a little less saturate than this photo would lead you to believe.

I've got champagne and OJ, milk chocolate liquor, homemade char sui bao and bergamont madeleines. And cups. And paper towels. And a totally absurd costume.

(And somehow, my parents ended up inviting everyone they know. What the hell?)

Also, I got talked into doing the Easter Ride (hundreds of motorcycles to Mount Tam for sunrise) so I promise to be a bit sleep deprived and punchy!
posted by mollymayhem at 11:35 PM on April 23, 2011

I dunno about this picnic thing, guys. It's pretty soggy out there. Thoughts?
posted by mollymayhem at 8:34 AM on April 24, 2011

The event is on, sez Facebook. Guess I'll pick up a tarp on my way there. Presuming anyone is coming.
posted by mollymayhem at 9:56 AM on April 24, 2011

Yup - the Sisters say it's on in the park.
posted by gingerbeer at 10:01 AM on April 24, 2011

I'm coming. Looks like we shouldn't get more rain, so a tarp should do the trick.
posted by madcaptenor at 10:16 AM on April 24, 2011

Woohoo! See ya there. Heading out now, but running a few errands on the way.
posted by mollymayhem at 10:29 AM on April 24, 2011

I'll be there.
posted by MillMan at 10:50 AM on April 24, 2011

My stomach woke me up because it was all GRAR, so I think we might be even more maybe than we were before. If anyone wants to see BYOB, text me or gingerbeer, since it's likely we'll go to that (it's a two-minute walk from our house).
posted by rtha at 10:51 AM on April 24, 2011

I come bearing chocolate (in bunny form!) and beer.
posted by madcaptenor at 10:53 AM on April 24, 2011

Stop the presses! Blue skies at market and church!
posted by mollymayhem at 11:35 AM on April 24, 2011 [1 favorite]

What presses? It's been a while but I'm pretty sure tiedye isn't made with a press.
posted by madcaptenor at 11:53 AM on April 24, 2011

ooh, nice flag! I'll be there sometime after 1.
posted by needs more cowbell at 11:58 AM on April 24, 2011

Alas, there is an emergency food shortage at the party I'm going to and I've been pressed into pie-baking and egg deviling service.

Have fun all. Enjoy the sunshine!
posted by chatongriffes at 12:03 PM on April 24, 2011

Sunshine, blue skies and the mefite flag waves proudly in the breeze. Come on down!
posted by mollymayhem at 12:03 PM on April 24, 2011

If you're coming down and haven't left yet, bring sunblock!

Also, the current band would like you to know that life is so much better if you shake your ass. The more you know. Doo doo dooo!
posted by mollymayhem at 1:10 PM on April 24, 2011

Boo. I had a minor but messy plumbing snafu. Luckily I have these cookies and champagne to make me feel a little bit better about missing out!
posted by grapesaresour at 3:29 PM on April 24, 2011

Thanks all for coming out! I had a great time, but am now spectacularly ridiculously absurdly sunburned.

And hooray for Hunky Jesus 2011, Jesus Fucking Christ!
posted by mollymayhem at 10:18 PM on April 24, 2011

There is video of the Hunky Jesus contest! The winner appears just after the 6 minute mark & just before the 15 minute mark.

This is really amazingly, spectacularly NSFW.
