A Game Day!

Sat February 27 at 5:00 PM, Caldera Public House
6031 SE Stark St, Portland, OR, USA (Map & Directions)
It occurred to me tonight that it has been nearly 5 years since our very first game meetup.
Also, I think it's been quite a while since the last game meetup.
So, I think it's about time we had a game meetup!

I've set the start time for when they open. Room should be reserved for the whole evening.

I have been known to enjoy a game.

As have I.

Though my game enjoyment may not be as (in)famous as is cortex's.

Any thoughts on where we should have such a meetup?
Guardian Games?
A pub somewhere?

pro: games are neat. I am still itchin' to play Jux.
cons: Foreigner's Head Games now stuck in my head.

I vote for a pub somewhere, although that is often the case.

I also enjoy playing board games and going to pubs.

It's been years since I've made a meetup, but I like games and drinking, so ... maybe?

While I'm not much of one for playing games, it's been ages since a meetup. So if this does end up being held in a pub, I might come and have a beer and just be a casual observer.

Like greg, I'm amenable to pub-located meetups and beer and a chance to say hello to everyone.

Venues that work for the game-playing cohort?

We've done an early weekend game day upstairs at Caldera Public House a couple times, which worked out pretty well though haven't been in a while so it'd be good to check in with them about it.

There's Plew's up here in St. Johns, which has a lot of space and usually not many people inside if it's not a weekend evening; it's an odd dive but a friendly one, decent beer list and a small but solid and cheap food menu.

I'll check into Calder Public House.
I think we stopped going there because they got a little flaky on the hours, but that was nearly 4 years ago.

Is a Saturday evening thing acceptable?
posted by nickthetourist at 3:38 PM on January 25, 2016

My next few Saturdays are open at the moment.

Right now I am thinking of either February 6th, 13th, or 20th. Are there any preferences for a particular day? Part of me thinks sooner is better because why wouldn't it be? I also need to verify availability of space with Caldera Public House which I keep forgetting to do.
posted by nickthetourist at 11:15 AM on January 27, 2016

Of those, the 20th would work best for me!
posted by Secretariat at 11:39 AM on January 27, 2016

I will be out of town on the 20th. The other days work for me.
posted by mimo at 10:35 AM on January 28, 2016

And I am out of town on the 6th, but not the other dates.

The 13th or the 20th works for me. I can bring a strategy game or two.
posted by thebotanyofsouls at 4:47 PM on January 29, 2016

Well, Caldera is booked on the 13th and 20th, but they had the 27th open, so I booked it.
Does that work for everyone?
posted by nickthetourist at 1:56 PM on February 2, 2016

I'm available on the 27th.

Curious what games we should plan on bringing?
posted by nickthetourist at 10:57 AM on February 21, 2016

mimo and I are planning on bringing Codenames.

My sweetie and I are coming ... Is there going to be a cover charge or suggested donation for the cost of renting the space?
posted by thebotanyofsouls at 5:59 PM on February 21, 2016

No space rental fee, but it is a pub that serves food and beer, so order a bit of something is recommended.

Who's up for Talisman?

We will bring some subset of Sheriff of Nottingham, Camel Up, Colt Express, Survive!, Qwixx, and some playing cards for Golf.
posted by Sibrax at 5:49 PM on February 22, 2016

I think I am going to pick up a copy of Superfight.

Or not? I'm putting a +1 but I'm not sure if my sweeties plans will allow her to come.

See y'all there!

Just confirming that this is for 5pm? Later than they used to be!
posted by curious nu at 12:20 PM on February 25, 2016

5:00pm is the time since that's as early as Caldera opens.
posted by nickthetourist at 1:38 PM on February 25, 2016

Yep, that's why we stopped going there all the time. I think.
posted by Sibrax at 4:06 PM on February 25, 2016

Sibrax: Yep, that's why we stopped going there all the time. I think.

Partially. It was also because they were rather hazy on when they were going to start their Spring/Summer hours.

I figured this time around it was another try since the space is good, as is the beer list and food menu.
posted by nickthetourist at 2:26 PM on February 26, 2016

Oh yeah! I didn't mean it was a bad choice. It's a good meetup location.

Superfight acquired!
