Post Xmas Meetup w/dhruva

Tue December 27 at 5:00 PM, Green Dragon
928 SE 9th Ave, Portland, OR, USA (Map & Directions)
dhruva mentioned in this thread that if we were to have a meetup while he's in town he'd finally get to meet some some PDX MeFites since previously he had been unable to make it.
I've gone ahead and made it official:

5:00pm on Tuesday, December 27th at Green Dragon.

This can, as always, be changed if necessary.

In theory, I can attend any of those days.

Should we make it a west side meetup this time? Or can we find out what part of town is most convenient for dhruva?
posted by mimo at 5:02 PM on November 29, 2011

According to him he's staying in the Eastmoreland area, and requested a spot downtown or in the SE.

There's always the Green Dragon.
It works well enough and is easy to get to.
And how can you possibly disagree with Merry and Pippin?

Around the corner at Cascade Barrel House is another option.

There's also Eastburn which we haven't visited since....April 24th, 2010.

It's a little early for me to tell about my schedule then but I'd like to be there as well. Just joined recently (after Jessamyn opened up the backdoor for me) but I've been lurking for a year or two.

I'm out in Hillsboro but I can come in if the weather's not too bad. Or maybe on MAX.

@ aleph - it's always good to meet new Mefites. Each of the places I suggested are fairly easy to get with a combo of MAX and Bus.

nick, I don't think they'd like us to dance on the tables.

But how will we know with absolute certainty if we don't try?

Unassailable logic. You start, I'll be right behind you.

That could be a dangerous location if he falls off.

Should I take these comments as a consensus that we've decided on Green Dragon?
Yes?
Well, in that case, shall we do this on Tuesday, the 27th at around 5:00pm?
posted by nickthetourist at 3:27 PM on December 2, 2011

As an 8-to-5'er I won't be able to get there before 5:45 or 6 or so, but save me a seat and I'm good.
posted by Greg_Ace at 4:26 PM on December 2, 2011

Perhaps you should verify this is OK with dhruva before breaking out the chisels.

We've got two non-mefite guests in town- if this activity meets with their approval, we may bring them. They love the good things in life so they'll fit right in. We've dragged at least one of them to a metafilter meetup in his hometown in the past. (Oh, I know we're here visiting you, but would you drive us to this restaurant? Oh yeah, there'll be a bunch of metafilter people there. And we may stay for hours. You don't mind, right?)

Yes, meeting new people is always good.

Only in food AskMes. Particularly the "can I eat it" kind.

posted by fiercekitten at 4:42 PM on December 18, 2011

Or in mimo's case, "can I fight it".

I'm sorry, but that imagery is too wonderfully silly to give up just yet!
posted by Greg_Ace at 7:51 PM on December 18, 2011

First of all, you have no evidence that I am an octopus. Secondly, I am sad that you think I'm silly.
posted by mimo at 9:14 PM on December 18, 2011

I'd just like to point out that the octopus was not interested in fighting.

That being said, 'Fighting Octopi' would make a great name for a sports team.
posted by nickthetourist at 9:24 PM on December 18, 2011

mimo - it wasn't you I was calling silly, it's the whole "fighting octopus" running gag.
nickthetourist - this was the octopus I was referring to.
But by the time I've finished explaining it, it's not funny any more. Phooey.

Greg, that sounds like a lovely and acceptable way to spend an evening, an afternoon...not so much, a morning...I would worry.

Eurgh! No mimo, not morning. Mornings are for coffee. Lots and lots of precious life-giving coffee.

No, I am in fact not a Morning Person, why do you ask?

hmmm....no, there really isn't a best option for time to bring that to the table. Better off to just put it out there.

Anyway, I was actually thinking of meeting up for lunch since I am currently a gentleman of leisure (it's winter break!!), but then I realized I might be the only one with such an open schedule.

oh mimo, don't cry.
I used to eat lunch in a dingy, windowless break-room.

@curious nu: define early-ish
posted by nickthetourist at 1:07 PM on December 20, 2011

nick: well I need to be back in my part of town by about 1:30, so that means leaving wherever by 1, so.. say 11ish? for plenty of time for eatin' and digestin' and maybe a short game of something.

Couldn't you take that tram thing down the hill?
I know there's a few places down there.
posted by nickthetourist at 7:51 AM on December 21, 2011

If you think any of those places are worth going to. There are no pubs. If you are going to go through the trouble, please meet up someplace worth hanging out at. Really, I am just going to complain no matter what.
posted by mimo at 8:25 AM on December 21, 2011

Really, I am just going to complain no matter what.

Well, in that case....my original thought was HUB.
Or should we save that for, say, a proper New Year meetup?
posted by nickthetourist at 11:34 AM on December 21, 2011

Go for it! Although, an anniversary meetup at HUB wouldn't be a bad idea either.

posted by curious nu at 3:59 PM on December 21, 2011

The location on Powell at 11:45.
Hopefully that will beat the lunchtime rush.

Oh mimo, you know we don't until everyone arrives....
posted by nickthetourist at 9:28 AM on December 27, 2011

This explains a lot. We're never quite sure who all is coming, so we are never sure when everyone has arrived, so we never get to dance on the tables. I think we need to reconsider this policy, or stop kidding ourselves about our table-dancing potential.
posted by mimo at 10:36 AM on December 27, 2011

Well, I guess I have to face up to the facts, stop being in denial, and admit I'm going to miss the fun this evening. Santa brought me a cold, and though I hoped I'd feel better by tonight the truth is I have no business being out in public right now. Hoist a pint and dance a table-jig for me, and I'll catch y'all at the next meetup.
