Arthouse movie meetup

Thu July 14 at 6:30 PM, Violet Crown Cinema
434 W 2nd St, Austin, TX, USA (Map & Directions)
It's time to plan for an Austin meetup and after the Alamo thread, one of the possibilities is an arthouse film or documentary at the Violet Crown downtown. UPDATED: We'll be seeing Page One on July 14 at the Violet Crown, 7:10 showing. Ticket link.
On the coming soon list for next month:

- Page One (the NY Times documentary, recently featured on the blue)
- Project Nim, a documentary about a chimpanzee
- Buck, a documentary about a horse whisperer

I'm not sure Building Hope will be there long enough for us to plan for it, and I hesitate to suggest a fictional story without an idea of people's tastes.

The Violet Crown has a bar onsite and we can also find a place to nosh and talk afterwards.

Hurray! As I said in the Drafthouse thread, I've seen both Page One and Buck, and they're both great. I'd be willing to see either again. Project Nim looks good too, so I'm no help in picking a movie.

My schedule is easier on weeknights than weekends, so maybe we could do this on say, a Thursday?

I'm all for a weekday evening meetup. Thursdays are generally pretty good for me but June 23 is out.

I can do a Thursday night. June 23rd is out for me too.

I'd be up for something. If it's a movie I'm not interested in, I'll show up for the conversation afterward and snark on it anyway, so you can say "RTFA" IRL. OMG ROFL SPQR.

Me and @leastlikelycowgirl are interested in a meetup of some description

Sounds like a good time. Weeknights are easier than weekends for me.

Sorry I've been afk all day. I've been at the car dealership and mefi-ing through my phone, which is suboptimal for looking at the Violet Crown web site.

I'm kind of hoping to catch the NYT documentary, which starts July 1. Unfortunately, my husband (who also wants to see it) is busy the first Thursday in July. How would people feel about July 14? We won't have a time immediately so we can't finalize, but I can update to include the date.

I can do July 14.

That works for me, too.

Sounds like we're definitely settled on the evening of July 14. I'll update the post and comment again when we have showtimes. Meanwhile let's think about when to meet given that the showtimes seem to be between 7 and 7:30 for the most part. Should we meet before the show and eat or hang around and shoot the breeze afterwards or both?

I will be somewhat jet-lagged but can probably make it.

how very exciting! I think I can make it too!

Violet Crown still doesn't have times. I'll look again and probably update this post on Friday when it opens and we know how far in advance they're selling tickets for it.

Awesome, I've been wanting to see the NYT doc. I would also be up for dinner beforehand or an after-movie drink.

Hey gang, tickets for July 14 are on sale now! I have the two middle seats in Row D for the 7:10 showing on Thursday July 14. Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

So is the plan to see the movie, then hang out in the bar afterwards? The movie is 90 minutes, so we'd be there at about 8:40, if others want to join us.

Yeah, I don't think folks can get there after work (particularly not my spouse) and chat and hang and then see the later show. So we'll hang in the bar and yak afterwards.

Here's hoping I'll see you all tonight!

I've got my ticket--I'm the single seat to the left of y'all.

Won't make the movie, but will try to make the post-movie yakking.

I have to teach a karate class tonight, so I won't make the movie, but I'll try to shower and make it over in time to say hi after.

I won't be able to make it to the movie tonight but I'll stop by afterward.

We are here. Look for the woman with purple hair and the tall guy in the yellow shirt with long blond hair.
