I've missed a whole string of recent meetups, so I think I'd be in for this one. I can do the 13th but not the 14th.

So guys--there's a new pub trivia game in town, Geeks Who Drink. (Horace Rumpole and I, along with a friend from out of town, totally took first place last week.) Monday nights at 8pm they're at Tommy Doyle's in Harvard Square, so I humbly suggest that as a meetup possibility.

That sounds like the best thing ever!

Cool! Let's spend that gift certificate and win a new one!

I will be out of town on business but if this becomes A Thing I will totally be there in the future.

Oh I would totally love to make this A Thing.

I will try to make it to this one.

I would like to go to there! Trivia at Tommy Doyle's sounds fantastic.

I have an Italian class at CCAE until 7:45, but it's right in Harvard so I could probably jet over by 8 if that's okay.

I'm a maybe, too -- next week might turn out to be quite busy for me, but I do love trivia, and it would be fun to make it to a meetup.

I'm a definite maybe. I love trivia! How will we find each other?

Horace Rumpole is usually wearing his MetaFilter blue t-shirt. It's a small place, too, and on a Monday night in the Summertime, we'll probably be the largest conglomeration of people sitting in one group.

Unless we have to split up for team-size's sake. Then it's every mefite for themselves, and you'll have to shout out, "WHO ORDERED THE PLATE OF BEANS?"
posted by not_on_display at 12:08 PM on June 9, 2011

Take the stairs up one flight once you get inside, and head towards the stage. Team size limit is six, so we might have to form two groups, depending on actual attendance. I will plan on wearing my shirt.

YES. This is helpful advice. Last time I tried to meet up with friends at Tommy Doyle's I went home feeling totally dissed, not realizing that there was a second floor.

I won't be able to make it after all, but please let me know if it becomes a Thing, as I'd love to come another time. And good luck, everyone! Make us proud.

I am excited! Question: Is there a cover? I am broke as a joke. But I would like to come, say hi and meet everybody and lend some of my extensive geek trivia knowledge to the cause of TOTAL DOMINATION.

What's up with all the friggin' 'Maybes'? Don't tease me, you turds.

There will be Moxie and chocolate chip cookies at the meetup. Does this change anyone's mind?

On with the Moxie! You convinced me.

Hey guys, turns out trivia is downstairs this week! So we're on the first floor of Tommy Doyle's now.
posted by DiscourseMarker at 4:44 PM on June 13, 2011

Woohoo! Metafilter pwns trivia! You guys are awesome, and I officially declare this A Thing.
posted by Horace Rumpole at 8:10 PM on June 13, 2011

nice to meet (or re-meet) everyone. next time I promise I will be more social and not force you to send Horace Rumpole as your emissary to the other table. glad that we finally have A Thing!
posted by Kosh at 8:20 PM on June 13, 2011

A Thing rocks. Thanks all for a fun time!
posted by not_on_display at 8:46 PM on June 13, 2011

No worries Kosh--anyway, it was Tommy Doyle's fault for giving the big room upstairs to the sports people (Stanley Cup Schmanley cup) and forcing us into the few small tables downstairs.

MeFi teams took 1st & 2nd place. We remain supreme.

And yes, it was decided that this be a bi-weekly Thing, so the next one would be Monday June 27!
posted by DiscourseMarker at 8:52 PM on June 13, 2011

Dammit..I'm off by a day. I kept thinking the night was Tuesday (which I couldn't make, but tonight? Could have. Bah. Glad you all had A thing.)

I propose that odd Mondays would be an excellent way to remember which week we are gathering without having to recall the last time we gathered.

Of course, a biweekly IRL reminder would be even better...

That was SO much fun and it was a blast getting to meet you all. I'm stoked that this is going to be A Thing. I am also stoked that we DOMINATED like the DOMINATORS that we ARE. In other news, I ate so much British candy that I went home and had a dream that I was on trial (for something, I'm unsure what), was found guilty and I was sentenced to a lifetime of wearing mom jeans. My subconscious is like a really mean charm school teacher.

Hey, my first meet-up, had a great time. It was a particular privilege to happen to sit at the same table as the people who knew all the trivia answers. Sorry I only met at most half of you. Hopefully bigger tables at the next Thing will fix that.

By the way, I have to tell what happened on my way home. I was awarded the remaining Moxie to take home (probably for being the only one interested). I stopped off at the Falafel Palace in Central Square for a bite, and put the bottle on the counter while paying. After a few minutes the guy behind the counter jerked his head at it and asked "Hey, where did you get that?". I told him I hadn't found it but that it originated in the Market Basket in Somerville. He said he wasn't a native New Englander, but that he'd "had it before".

Moxie - It gets you noticed!
